Are videogames for children?

Fun fact I discovered: Undertale is low-end enough to actually run just fine on my ancient-ass cheapo laptop with Windows XP from 2007.

Like it doesn't have any dependencies that a lot of modern low-end games need, so that impressed me
Really? Even though it was made in GameMaker?

yesterday was the anniversary of when this was released back in 2001, and I still have mine, though only in a different color.

however, I might have to buy a new controller. the one I have might not be working right.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds comes out this Friday in place of WWE 2K21, possibly because of the ratings backlash the last one received. But this game seems fun to play:

It’s even on the Nintendo Switch, too.

I like to pretend that I'd be well qualified to be a video game journalist because it somewhat justifies in my head the concept that I wasted so much time learning and obsessing over video games. So in the vein of a Larry Bundy style video here's FIVE VIDEO GAME FRANCHISES THAT HAVE GONE DORMANT AND SHOULD COME BACK!

Now I know what you're thinking, this is just another dork who wants to whine that Rockstar never made Bully 2. Well I want Bully 2 but the purpose of this is to point out that there are some lovely franchises that are rotting away and could spawn popular sequels. I'm certain that assuming they were well made any of these games would sell well.

5. Virtua Fighter - This is last on the list because sadly Fighting Games are a finicky genre in terms of commercial reception. Even the biggest name like Street Fighter can greatly under perform if the studio can't make the game very enjoyable. With that said Sega should respect their legacy as an Arcade giant by at least making a small scale sequel to Virtua Fighter. It was the first fighting game to have 3D Graphics and it was truly unique that the characters moved in a 3D Plane. Yu Suzuki designed an elegant system as Virtua Fighter only uses a D-Pad/Arcade Stick and Three Buttons making it very accessible to newbies but underneath it players had many attack moves at their disposal. The reason I feel Virtua Fighter didn't sustain popularity like Tekken or Street Fighter is that the series always rather lacked personality. If they make a new game they could add a fun story mode and they should use the Yakuza games as inspiration.

4, Advance Wars - Fire Emblem is super successful and that's what Intelligent Systems focuses their time on besides Paper Mario. Yet they have a fantastic sister series that hasn't seen a sequel in more than a decade. Intelligent Systems should just make another Advance Wars game, insert waifus into it like Fire Emblem and you'll make money. Also what would be cool is that Advance Wars has multiplayer, since it's turnbased you could develop an online mode where players can take their time and play multiple matches while they wait for their opponents to make their move. It would fill a nice strategic niche.

3. Mega Man X - Everyone loves Mega Man, people even buy poorly emulated collections of Mega Man. The mainline Mega Man series has been given 3 solid sequels that everyone liked. But you know what people like more than Mega Man? Mega Man X! It had better graphics, cool 90s designs, and great soundtracks. Yet the last Mega Man X game proper was released 15 years ago. There's little reason not to produce a Mega Man X9 game especially when 90s nostalgia is so high.

2. Wario - Mario is great, Mario deserves constant new sequels because it's more or less the one franchise that everyone should try once. But Nintendo has seemingly put Wario on the backburner only appearing in Party games now and that's a shame. The Gameboy Wario titles were some of the best original games on that platform. What appeals to me about Wario is that he's not the good guy like Mario, he's a fat, stupid, greedy, piece of shit. And with that creative freedom I think Nintendo could make a wickedly enjoyable sequel to the franchise.

1. Twisted Metal - What do all the little kids love now? Large Battle Royale Games where it's last man standing. What do kids also really love? Cars and car themed games like Rocket League is insanely popular. I'm baffled that Sony isn't making a new Twisted Metal where you could have 50+ Player Deathmatchs. Just don't let David Jaffe have total control or else he'll be edgy and make it Rated M. Maybe call it something else if you make it too kid friendly ala Fortnite my point is I know there's billions sitting there waiting for a Battle Royale Car Destruction game.

Same thing with Grand Theft Auto VI or another proper Def Jam fighting video game.
With how many of the under 40 rappers grew up playing that game, it would have one of the biggest roasters in fighting game history.

Advance wars was better as a concept than an actual game the maps and COs were dogshit in the first one, it was a demo they made people pay for. The 2nd one was essentially the real game, and arguably the best, although the campaign is short and repetitive and the AI is shit. (The APC is a magnet for all enemies and if not that they usually go for the most expensive units first) the maps are good, but there are so few and the game is unbalanced as fuck, with most COs being useless on most maps.

Duel strike goes overboard and gives you way too many advantages. The concept of duel strike is cool but its essentially playing two maps at once. The AI is a lot better though and the concept of having to deal with AI allies is good but a pain when you're used to dealing with handling it all on your own.

Days of ruin took things in a whole different direction and cut out CO powers almost completely while giving a much smaller roster of COs. Essentially making a game with less variety than 2 but harder AI and prettier graphics and darker story.

Yesterdays ps4 event showed me something again. I hate graphic whores.

What do i care how many pixels your dick has, when the game that has this dick in there, is absolute shit?

70% of the comments in these events is made up of these kids.

I care about it when we're talking hardware upgrades though, not because of the game but because if I invest 500 bucks onto something I'm hoping to get an improvement out of it. I was really unimpressed with the ps4 for that reason, didn't feel like a jump in capabilities more like another grabbler scam to suck your money. In the end the most important thing is game catalogue but since 90% of that shit is multiplayer you're gonna have crossplatform more often than not so I'm not hoping to get anything except for better hardware. I've also lost 99% of interest in game consoles since they were my offline choice but now they're all about connectivity and most of the time I feel like I could be doing the same thing on a pc and better.

I do agree with you though, the tismos that go look at textures and do the "1% better resolution POGGERS ECKS DEE" are fucking retarded and gameplay is king on videogames. I still play ASCII shit from time to time and have more fun than call of dooders world war 30.

For whatever reason I just can't get addicted to Stardew Valley. I would've played it for a week straight had it existed when I was a tween, but by the time I was 16 I just couldn't get into those kinds of games. I've finally started to play for real and not overwrite my save file, and I just play one in-game day at a time every real-life day or two when I feel like it.

To my knowledge, Super Mario 3D-All Stars is still Sold out on Amazon, but Best Buy and Target still have it on their online stores. I’ll check back again to see if anything changes because I hope that for the time being it’s not just the digital version.

So I started playing Hades. Is there an upgrade where you start from later floors or you need a perfect run all the way to the finish? Because there all sorts of character interactions that you want to see between deaths, so I don't want to advance too much in one go and miss things out (I ended up committing sudoku at Elysium after blitzing the second floor at my first go. Bow + charge attack upgrade from Artemis is OP).

Anyone who says the Dark Souls games are the hardest ones ever made hasn't (among other things) tried beating Super Monkey Ball on Expert without continues. And Super Monkey Ball's challenge doesn't stem from PS1 shovelware-like controls.

I remember that the Prima’s strategy guide for Ocarina of Time was written like a story and I always thought that was fun.

I really miss early Nintendo power and Gamepro. For a bit Gamepro even had a comic inside featuring a guy who goes into videogames like Captain N.

Just bet Divinity OS2. It was pretty lit. Marian deserve the Baldur's Gate franchise. Whole game felt like playing a DnD campaign in game form so I didn't mind the wildly varying tone from dark silly.

Took divinity because fuck going all that way and giving it all to the peasants. Ifan, Red Prince and Fane are the three best bros to have in any party.

Onto pillars of eternity now, hope it doesn't bore the arse off me like 90% of Obsidian's output.
