I think the faster characters will have a much easier time with Steve over the more slower and heavyset ones. Staying away from the ledges will also be ideal.

Metal slash has a higher chance to appear while a player is metal from the metal box, and it instantly kills them.So Nintendo life's Steve Stream brought up an interesting question that I wonder the answer to.
Hero gets Metal Slash from his menu.
Character gets The Mario 64 Metal Block.
Does..Metal Slash obscene amounts of damage to said character?
You know what?Metal slash has a higher chance to appear while a player is metal from the metal box, and it instantly kills them.
The blocks are fucking weird. There's next to no consistency on what attacks even damage the things let alone which ones do enough to bust through so much as the weakest material. Projectiles are also a crapshoot between being "absorbed" into the blocks and doing no damage, bouncing off harmlessly or actually damaging them.
If Persona 5 can get a rep despite being like 2 years old at the time of Smash's release, a game that's stood the test of time for 8 years definitely can get a rep.
Certainly more relevant than fuckin' Geno, anyway.
Yeah, who was talking about castlevania before the smash reveal?I really don't understand where all this shit about relevancy is coming from. Smash has proudly showcased irrelevant characters for years. Almost two decades, really. Ness is no more relevant than Mallow or Geno, he just has a more rabid western fanbase. Ice Climbers were featured in one game from the early NES library, and even then most players didn't see Nana if they only ever played single player. Duck Hunt was even more irrelevant given the age of their game (or games if you include the Wild Gunman Final Smash), which I don't think even existed on Virtual Console before becoming part of the roster. Sakurai would've included even more irrelevant characters if Nintendo had let him, like the girl from Famicom Detective Club. The thing that binds them all together is that they're all fondly remembered by the fans of their games, which is really the important thing.
Relevancy is referring to third parties, and that checks out with all the ones already in Smash. The only ones are that are even close to niche are Joker, Terry, and Hero, but even their source games have sizable fanbases in America. All the others are from classic 8-bit games (Mega Man, Simon/Richter), classic 16-bit games (Sonic), classic 32-bit games (Snake, Cloud), fucking Pac-Man, fucking Street Fighter (Ryu/Ken) and fucking Minecraft.I really don't understand where all this shit about relevancy is coming from. I can see Crash making it in definitely, but I have trouble seeing doomguy making it in given how violent he games are. I'm not sure how that can be translated well into the game.Relevancy is referring to third parties, and that checks out with all the ones already in Smash. That's why people are speculating about Doomguy and Crash Bandicoot getting in; Crash was a classic Playstation series that rivaled Mario at one point, Doom is straight up one of the greatest games of all time, and both have new games coming to the Switch to shill.
You saw that clock post too on Sakurai's twitter? Go back to when he started posting pics on Twitter and see how many of those pictures reference either classic Doom or Fire Emblem.I can see Crash making it in definitely, but I have trouble seeing doomguy making it in given how violent he games are. The difference is though that Ness, Ice Climbers and Duck Hunt are owned by Nintendo making them first party characters and would have no problem getting in regardless of Fame or relevancy. Fuck, Mr Game & Watch is a perfect example of why this doesn't matter to Nintendo owned Characters and since the start of N64 & Melee they had characters that had games that never appeared in certain regions across the world (Earthbound never came out in Europe originally, Fire Emblem's Marth and Roy was never known outside of Japan).I really don't understand where all this shit about relevancy is coming from. Don't forget, Doom pretty much cemented PC gaming as a mainstay force and more than a niche hobby. It really is one of the most important games. In terms of those fields filled. Doom has influenced gaming so much in not only the First Person genre but the eventual evolution into 3D gaming as well so Doomguy is a good choice on that alone,
"Relevancy" has always been an omega-level cope. Captain Falcon hasn't been in a video game in years, but he's not missed a Smash Bros yet.I really don't understand where all this shit about relevancy is coming from. Well, yeah, but he was one of the first characters in Smash 64 and F-Zero was still a pretty recent game at the time. Of course he would stick around in the roster."Relevancy" has always been an omega-level cope. Captain Falcon hasn't been in a video game in years, but he's not missed a Smash Bros yet.
