So, I got back into Freedom Force and for how janky it is, fuck is it fun. What's even more awesome is how autistic the community is behind it, with many people still developing for the game. I'm talking they're making entire Marvel comic issue storylines and the like.

I always preferred Superhero League of Hoboken to Freedom Force.

If you have not played SLoH I would check it out, it came out in 1994 well before Freedom Force but it was one of the first superhero satire games that was actually well made.

I suppose they could move to a new engine, but I'm sure some bean counter did the math and said it would be too costly to invest the money in licensing, or in creating a new engine from scratch. Not to mention, they probably pointed at the modders releasing patches and said "Why should we fix it when these fuckwits are doing it for us for free?"
Whatever they did it would involve cramming their scripting engine and world handler into it and that's the thing that is consistently the source of jank and the reason why some bugs have carried over from Morrowind all the way into Fallout 76.

I have vague memories of Hoboken being hard as fuck, starting with the first enemy encounter.

I tried really hard to get into Monster Hunter World the last week and a half after hearing nothing but good things about it and seeing all my friends play it back in the day, but it is just not clicking. Everything about it feels tedious and twice as long as it should be, the controls are awful, I don't know. I feel like it's something wrong with me considering how loved the game seems to be.

Anyone who complains about Bloody Swamp either never made it this far in the game or didn't pick the "right" teleporter:

Somehow managed to get myself out of that place and beat the game after burning through two continues.

spend time in the tutorial area and watch some videos on the movesets, also what weapon are you wanting to use?

If you're just starting out that means your Feyline isn't leveled up and can't use the high end buffs, you're also lacking a Talrider to chase monsters down.

It’s not for everyone.

The controls are fine, but it has the same level of lock-in to the follow-through of your actions as a Souls game.

Some people love the lack of handholding and unforgiving play, most can’t hang with it or outright hate it, and that’s ok.

I hated it for pretty much the same reason.

Felt like a shitty, tedious PS2 game.

Yeah, I just got to the Coral Highlands anjd have tried out pretty much every weapon and none of them feel particularly good. I eventually settled on dual blades, and I could kill stuff - I just wasn't really having fun doing it.

Honestly, I enjoy Souls games more and find their control schemes easier to wrap my head around than I did MHW.

I don't want to say I hated it, I'm just not really having a blast with it either. I wish I liked it more. As it is, I'm probably going to shelve it for now and play something else.

My right arm is starting to feel really sore thanks to the first phase of the second-to-final Devil May Cry boss earlier today.
Sometimes DMC1 can be a two player game. Hand the controller over to someone else and remember to not press with your thumb, the motion comes from your forearm. You won't get burnt out as quickly.
Controversial opinion: DmC wasn't nearly as bad as people acted like it was.
The gameplay was fine it was the heavy handed Americanization of things that chafed. Look at two different approaches to portraying right-wing politics in a crazy way in two different game, fake O'Reilly in DmC and Senator Armstrong in MGR. One is done right, the other one is boring and heavy handed while trying to be topical and clever.

The idea of mixing up the witches brew and putting it into spray can and using stencils to quickly lay out those intricate sigils was a cool idea though.

I will die on this hill.

I dunno, I thought the Fox News pastiche level was pretty entertaining. I guess I'm just not as attached to regular Dante as some people. DmC was the first one I enjoyed after DMC1, and I still haven't played 4 or 5.

Playing Uplink again, trying to actually "beat" it this time and not get caught due to neglecting to buy fed tracker/security stuff. Still remember nearly jumping out of my seat when the Asian kid in Shazam mentioned that game, in the right context no less.

Had a MATI moment yesterday when my GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City game wasn’t playing on my PS3 the right way. Instead, it just went from freezing in the beginning to having long waits that were on the loading screen.

If it still does not work, I’m going to have to get a new disc and see if it changes anything. I really wanted to play that game yesterday (:_(

Get the game on PC, lol. I imagine yours is a lot more powerful than a 14-year-old console.

Over the past week the three remaining longterm GameXplain contributors all quit (4th left a month ago). Though the truth is that channel died ages ago and has been a shambling shill-zombie since 2018 or so.
