When I was a kid I really related to Calvin and Hobbes because of how a good third of the strips were just two characters fucking around in the woods unsupervised having conversations about kid stuff and it was exactly the experience I had with friends growing up.
With more of push to get kids into organized activities as soon as they can stand on their own, kids no longer have any chance to be a kid or engage in the spontaneous play many of us experienced and enjoyed growing up. It was fun during the summer to do whatever with the neighbor kids/peers between meals and play every second our parents would let us. I think the lack of that and parents doing more to micromanage their kids' waking moments has done more harm than good with their kids' socio-emotional development and we're seeing the results now with so many kids unable to handle the challenges COVID presents with maintaining social relationships.
No one in my city has been diagnosed with the flu.
I was out somewhere, so I couldn't catch who said it and where, but someone claimed that if and when COVID is deemed under control, flu season is going to strike with a vengeance. I'm pressing X to doubt and dismissing this as yet another attempt to keep everyone in a state of fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
Then I went to another store and no one there gave a fuck I wasn't wearing a mask. I want to say I've been in that very store since masking orders were rolled out, but I can't recall whether that's true. Whatever, Canadian Tire sucks anyways. I guess company policy is to they're try and drive people to Amazon now...
I have no idea if the order has changed in my state, but businesses at some point couldn't deny entrance to someone without a mask unless they first offered reasonable accommodations/alternatives. As examples, a grocery store might offer to have an employee do someone's shopping for them or a tax office might suggest people without a mask submit their tax return information in a secure on-site drop box site, postal mail, or through a secure online portal. Where it's not required, businesses do themselves a disservice when they don't offer accommodations to people that can't wear masks or forget to grab one in an oops moment -- especially if it means their customers go elsewhere and never come back.
They can give my vaccination to someone else. I plan to wait a year.
The doctor that speaks on the local evening news mentioned before the holidays that it would take up to two years to have an idea of what the long-term side effects might be. With that in mind, I'd prefer to wait two years although I'd just as soon go without as long as possible.
I'm at the breaking point. I can't take another ruined summer.
With the restrictions that weren't lifted here today, my paying side hobby remains on hold. The cancellations resulting from this will cost me a decent amount of money that would have came in handy this month. Thanks, Governor Whitmer for literally nothing

Defiance of virus dining bans grows as restaurants flounder
There is a family-owned restaurant in Michigan's upper peninsula that is defying shutdown orders/restrictions and drawing fines for it, but the owner has made it clear that take out business alone is insufficient to make her business profitable enough to give her the money she needs to cover even the most basic of her monthly expenses. Many are in the same boat and defying orders more for the money than to make any sort of political statement.
A WA teacher's union president says reopening schools is an example of "white supremacy," concern over a child's mental health or suicide risk is "white privilege," and push to reopen schools is like rioters pushing to enter the U.S. Capitol.
The head of the Detroit Federation of Teachers has opposed any form of in-person learning from the get-go even though there are parents that want and demand it when it's possible and available. The superintendent even allowed parents to choose whatever option worked best for them as much as possible. Funny how these union folks that insist (re-)opening schools now is "White privilege" are the same ones who normally complain how "students of color" need as much educational opportunity as possible to overcome the disadvantages they face
