Joss Whedon accused of being Joss Whedon - Cyborg actor accuses him of “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on the set of JUSTice League and accuses a couple of higher-ups of covering for him

It was a pretty good watch overall (Heart of Gold is the only really bad episode, and IIRC that one never aired) but so was the first season of Nu Who- first seasons are where authors have to color inside the lines, stay within budgets, and otherwise keep their shit together instead of writing self-indulgent trash and getting away with it. Whedon, like the vast majority of creatives, needs people with the power to tell him "no" in order to stay on track.
I agree with that. Firefly is a lot of fun, but go in expecting just that and not the show some of its fans make it out to be. It's good, not great. @Krokodil Overdose's comparison to James Dean is pretty good - people lament the lost potential even more than what they got.

A lot of very talented people work better with some restrictions, though, and great success has a way of removing them. Whether it be outside editors to tell them no, or lower budgets and restrictions they have to work around, limitations are known to spur creativity just as much as hinder it. There's a reason big-budget passion projects mostly flop, and it's because oftentimes the creative person couldn't get their 'dream project' off the ground for very good reasons until people give them the money and carte blanche to do whatever they want.

Sometimes that works. More often you get everything from The Last of Us Part 2, to Heaven's Gate, to Alexander. With Joss Whedon, I'd say it's notable that his passion projects have usually been smaller in scale and successful, creatively - Dr. Horrible, Much Ado About Nothing and Serenity are all well-regarded, generally.

And no one creative gets control over the MCU - he was pretty vocal about feeling stifled in making Age of Ultron. Now what he might have produced, or might still produce, with a large budget and minimal-to-no oversight? That remains to be seen. Can't say I'm particularly optimistic about his future work, but I don't think it will be guaranteed as bad.

Ray Fisher asked for a 3rd-party investigation into his allegations. They acquiesced, and now Fisher is being called out for refusing to cooperate with the investigation he requested.

"Still not satisfied, Mr. Fisher insisted that WarnerMedia hire an independent third party investigator. This investigator has attempted multiple times to meet with Mr. Fisher to discuss his concerns but, to date, Mr. Fisher has declined to speak to the investigator. Warner Bros. remains committed to accountability and to the well-being of every cast and crew member on each of its productions. It also remains committed to investigating any specific and credible allegation of misconduct, which thus far Mr. Fisher has failed to provide."

I'll be fucked if I can figure out exactly what the hell Fisher's plan here is. He puts himself in a position where he has to provide receipts but seemingly doesn't have them but why put yourself in that position in the first place then? What benefit is there to be had in ruining your career to take down Joss Whedon and Geoff Johns?

"Complicating matters is that Fisher is also deep in negotiations to reprise his role as Cyborg for a cameo in Ezra Miller's The Flash, which is due to shoot next year and already counts Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton — both back as versions of Batman — among the cast."

Probably gonna get the Terrance Howard treatment now.

DC sure knows how to pick 'em. You've got this, Amber Heard, Ezra Miller beating up women overseas, Pattinson getting the coof. The endless trainwreck that is their film productions is infinitely more entertaining and enjoyable than almost all of the movies they put out.

It appears they're tossing Whedon's version of Justice League as the 'canon' one and he's recently been booted from his upcoming show The Nevers.

He tries to blame COVID for his departure, saying it's taking too much from him, but given WB's curt statement rather than a more cordial "We wish him the best." or anything like that it's obvious he's full of shit.

Ray Fisher is officially fired from being Cyborg and he's bitching about it on twitter, I really don't know what he expected, he spent months throwing around vague accusations and calling people he worked with racist. You can't accuse your boss of being a scumbag and then act indignant when they decide to part ways. If you were gonna poison your career this badly, at least have the intelligence to drop some real drama bombs on the way out. You'll never work in that town again kid and you have no one but yourself to blame.

UPDATE: WarnerMedia has come out swinging in response to the social media post that Ray Fisher wrote on his exit from The Flash and allegations against DC Entertainment President Walter Hamada and his predecessor Geoff Johns. “As has been previously stated, an extensive investigation was conducted by an outside law firm, led by a former federal judge who has assured WarnerMedia that there were no impediments to the investigation,” a spokesperson said. “Last summer, Mr. Fisher was offered the opportunity to reprise his role as Cyborg in The Flash. Given his statement that he will not participate in any film associated with Mr. Hamada, our production is now moving on. Warner Bros. remains in business with Geoff Johns who continues to produce Stargirl, Batwoman, Doom Patrol, Superman & Lois, and Titans for the studio, among other projects.

Studio also sent this statement from Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group: “I believe in Walter Hamada and that he did not impede or interfere in the investigation. Furthermore, I have full confidence in the investigation’s process and findings. Walter is a well-respected leader, known by his colleagues, peers, and me as a man of great character and integrity. As I said in Walter’s recent deal extension announcement, I’m excited about where he’s taking DC Films and look forward to working with him and the rest of the team to build out the DC Multiverse.”
EARLIER, 8:24 pm PST: Ray Fisher is continuing his battle against WarnerMedia, sending out a Twitter manifesto on his recent dismissal from the upcoming Flash film.
The Justice League actor said he “strongly disagreed with their decision,” but said it was “unsurprising.” He again took issue with DC Films President Walter Hamada, claiming he undermined investigations into Fisher’s complaints about executive conduct on the Justice League set.
Fisher has been at-odds with Warner Bros. since last July, accusing Joss Whedon of abuse during the post-Zack Snyder reshoots of Justice League. A subsequent Warner Bros. investigation said unspecified “remedial action” was taken, and the investigation was concluded. No other details were revealed.
HBO Max will premiere the Zach Snyder director’s cut of Justice Leaguefeaturing Fisher in 2021.

Is there a TL;DR on this? (I have problems reading white on black text.)
Joss was a huge prick to Charisma Carpenter. Sleazy boss, commenting on her weight, constantly threatening to fire her and shit like that. When she got pregnant he lost it. Implied that he wanted her to abort the baby, bullied her relentlessly for months, then fired her from the show. Dude is basically a major piece of shit.

He bailed on his new tv show back in November and has nothing else listed in the works on his IMDB. He does have 3 "special thanks" credits on Wandavision though I imagine they're gonna try and distance themselves from that if anyone actually notices.

Whedon attributed his departure to being unable to meet “the physical challenges of making such a huge show during a global pandemic,” in a statement of his own.

Claims it was the coof but one wonders if he saw the writing on the wall and knew it was only gonna be a matter of time before more people came forward.

He's pretty much fucked now. Presenting himself as a feminist icon while going around cheating on his wife and harassing women for being pregnant is generally frowned upon. Maybe his good friend Anita will take pity on him and give him a job.

Firefly return never ever lmao.

This has been coming for awhile. It has been an open secret that Whedon is a piece of garbage. The guy openly casting couched young female guest stars (and quite possible lead cast members, look up the Buffy/Willow abortion rumors) ala Weinstein and hid under the stereotypical male feminist shield for ages. We knew Carpenter was fired for being pregnant, but actively telling her to abort and openly mocking her faith sounds like the grade A euphoric atheist cringe lord that Whedon and a large segment of that prototypical late 90's-early 00's sjw culture fit to a T.

I'm betting his ex-wife coming out with all of it a few years back was the straw that broke the camels back. His career has noticeably tanked. That Buffy remake with a Black lead just up and evaporated along with all the other shows he was working on and pitching.

Buffy/Angel were quality pieces of work whose tone worked for the time. However, the writing industry suffered immense damage due to his quip filled writing. Actual good dialogue is so God damn rare now in tv and film.
