I looked up what happened to the guy who got his legs blown off in Boston and he has two very expensive prosthetics, but they didn't come off the rack. I'm sure that his GoFundMe was bottomless, too. Godspeed to that dude.

What is the likelihood that Kelly will be turned down for $200,000 prosthetics based on the doc telling her "No, fuck you, we're going to spend that energy on someone deserving who will be grateful for the work we've put in and you're not that person?"

I doubt she'll make it through the process of having the post grafted into her bone. I'm not sure about Canada, but this procedure has not been granted any FDA approval in the US. Especially since the anchor point is considered a hotspot for potential infection. And seeing how Kelly probably won't let it heal, she'd be shit outta luck once that gets infected.

Yes, they are bred in labs under sterile conditions and after they are removed from a wound (rinsed off with salt water) they are basically medical waste.

My disgust is matched only by my immense amusement at the fact that "sterile medical maggots" exist, are produced in sterile lab conditions and are actually considered "sterile" just like a brand new sealed adhesive bandage.

It's gross (c'mon, maggots are nasty), fucking awesome (it's incredible that it actually works really well) and absolutely hilarious (all our modern medical science and the best answer we have for nasty, hard-to-clean wounds is still just "lol stick some creepy-crawlies in it").

I think the stumps would have to heal up a lot to be able to use those, and I wouldn't bet money on her letting them heal.

I've read through most of the thread, but I'm not seeing an explanation for how she can actually do these things to herself. Especially ripping out a nerve. Like, how does the pain not get too overwhelming to continue? I get that she's just all kinds of crazy, but unless she somehow doesn't feel pain I don't understand how this happens.

The only other time I've heard of someone severing their own nerve on purpose, it was a story about a dude having to amputate his own arm to survive after it got pinned under a boulder. So, it was from severe desperation and the guy could barely even fight through the pain. How does someone do anything like that just for the Hell of it and not give up from the pain?

I think they assess what prosthetic you get here in Canada by what good you gonna use it for. A pro athelete is gonna get approved for fancy shit. A basic bitch is gonna get pleb legs.

1. That wasn't a nerve. Several people with medical knowledge have said it can't be (too big) and that it was probably a lymph vessel. The only reason it keeps being mentioned as a nerve is bc Kelly said she thought it was a nerve when she posted that damn picture. Iirc she herself said afterwards (maybe even when she posted in this thread?? You can go back and check) that it wasn't a nerve, her doctor confirmed that.

2. Re: how she does this: Kelly has been on opiates for several years, for the pain associated with her legs. She whined and sperged her way to it, after being denied by doctors, who rightfully suspected she was a junkie. You can find the whole saga on her IG. After the grafts, there was talk of getting her off of them (Dilaudid, I believe) but seeing as how she destroyed those and dug new holes in her legs, I'm sure she was eventually kept on it. Whenever she mentions the pain meds on her IG, she always makes it seem like she doesn't want to take them, she wants to be off of them, etc etc, but make no mistake, she is taking that shit and has even mentioned running out of her prescription before the renewal date.

Personally, I believe Kelly has managed to give herself an opiate addiction (like most munchies eventually do). Maybe it's not full-on junkie-in-a-ditch level but it's enough to have her jonesing for them (her own shrink has insinuated this to her and she threw a fit), which means to get more, she needs to keep the pain alive, ergo more picking. The picking is now not only for attention (her main goal) but also bc she wants the drugs.

It all really depends on state/area you are in. Where I practice we still have institutions and the rules to go to one tend to be consistent inpatient over a period of time. I.E. if someone is revolving the door 75% of a month with actually issues (actively hallucinating, actually suicidal, etc.) they can be commited with I beleive 2 doctors signingoff on it to involuntary long term care and there is then a hearing on it.

Certain disorders though, like BPD really are only treated well by certain therapies and they can cause shit on a ward. Some show anti-social behaviors and they are VERY manipulative. These are the type of patients who will cause people to leave the field.

It's ghoulish and would be a terrible idea for a normal person but at this point I honestly think it might save her life. If she makes her stumps go necrotic things could get veeeery nasty. Granted, this girl still has one leg, but she had her foot attached backwards to her amputation site, effectively having her ankle function as a knee.

Too bad Kelly's feet are already out with the other biohazard waste.

I've seen that before too. It's crazy to look at, but offers greater mobility. It's really only used with cancer patients, where cancer affects either the thigh or knee, but the lower leg is still healthy. I most cases where a leg has to be removed, the lower leg has been damaged in some way, even just by blood vessel trauma.

She's got to be well-known in the hospital as a self-inflictor, they definitely roll their eyes whenever they hear about her having come in again, but they're most likely unable to do anything except "treat" her and send her on her way. And the older she gets, the more time she comes back, the less people are going to care. People will get upset about a young woman coming in with severe health problems. People will not get uspet about a crazy old lady who comes back again and again and again with whatever new shit she inflicted on herself.

PharmaCare policy dictates government tax dollars will only be paid out to maintain "basic functionality"— meaning more sophisticated, higher priced prosthetics are not covered.

Plus there are deductibles and a fee structure that critics say hasn't been changed since 2008, setting replacement costs far below current market prices.

It means in B.C., only the most fundamental prosthetics are approved by PharmaCare. And even then, they're only partially funded.

Her Instagram story showed her hands shaking and showing us a toothbrush that she bought especially for her hospital stay. She mentions she forgot to bring Toothpaste. I got an eery feeling she's gonna try to brush her stump wounds with her fancy toothbrush. Maybe I've gone too far down the rabbit hole. Maybe not. I have read on here in the past, but since her stump surgery I have spent the past 3 days reading everything from the beginning. Someone on reddit keeps reporting my comments and posts. Maybe this is where I belong to ponder her case. I really have been consumed by this for the past several days. I just got a weird gut feeling about her showing off her new toothbrush. Her hands were obviously shaking in the instagram story too.

Her initial hospital post she said she had an epidural but then mentioned how she had already used the toilet and was recovery fast and so well. If she has a catheter she didn't use the toilet did she? So she's lying already. Unless she had to take a dump with her new stumps. Idfk. Either way, I'm now one of you on here. Thankfully I'm not alone with this fascination. I think she will end up dead by the end of the summer. Either suicide or infecting/picking herself apart even more.
