Morality of Piracy - Yet another quality FuckedUp thread

Even from an economic perspective it’s not always best to pirate a game versus buying it on Steam. Steam makes updating a game and installing mods for it quick and effortless. This is really good for games like Factorio or Oxygen Not Included that both have tons of mods and receive steady updates constantly.

Steam found its success as a borderline PC games monopoly by being more convenient than piracy.
True. Darkest Dungeon is an example on what you are saying, where mods and support is solely exclusive to Steam.

Now I will counteract your argument by saying there are sites where you can download mods from Steam by only putting the URL code of the mod and the site grabs the link and convert it to zip so you can manually install it.

Piracy requires more steps and more attention. That's why Steam streamlines a lot of things so that lazy users believe is better to fork up cash for unfinished games and then defend it when someone like me points out the holes in the whole system.

I pirate everything ubisoft makes... they are french, so fuck them....
and for all their anti piracy guys... come at me frenchies..
I don't care that you do it, what I don't like is the gay moral grand standing slacktivist shit excuses people give to rationalize it.
I don't pay for shit that will dissapoint me.

Powerlevel because it serves my argument: My dad pays netflix, disney+ and universal+ and he always complain about something.

Why should I pay for things that will ultimately be dissatisfied at?
LMAO why steal shit you don't want?

Stealing things for gay activist reasons is almost as cringe as buying things for gay activist reasons but not quite as cringe because you still have your money if you stole things but all the faggots in this thread are out $20 for a game they probably won't like.

Better to be honest than to be a fag.

I'm not stealing per the definition of the word. I'm not hurting devs or the media industry by me pirating it something. It is complicated but reat assured your precious devs gain more from piracy than without.

And I do it because a) I can and b) I want to.

In the case of Factorio I never had any incling to play it before because I thought it was autistic as hell and I downloaded it to see if I was right, and yeah is autistic as hell.

Since this thread's been kickstarted, might as well show off my early belts/buffers from my first save

It's beautiful. So far my biggest builds all just seem to work by some kind of technomancy because I can't even follow my own design path. They're like that SCP-914. They work, somehow, but taking away a single machine breaks everything and following the flow of operation impossible.

LMAO explain how?
Because the devs get pay either way for their work. The only ones who suffer from piracy are the distributors or publishing companies.

In the case of Steam, most Frontpage games are sourced by someone outside the dev team who pay them and they get the revenue from the sales along with Steam.

Like, I know you are a CUMSOOMER and you need to defend the brand like a good lil autist but cmon dude... Learn at least how money is exchanged.

Stealing it means no buyers remorse if you totally don't like it, whereas if you like it, win win.

I'm in a similar boat with ubisoft games. I buy used copies if I wanna try one of their titles. Those shitbrained surrender monkeys will never get a penny out of me

I like well-organized builds with a lot of empty space in-between the factory sections (mostly because I just like using rails), but I can appreciate a good eldritch spaghetti. And it's always funny to ask someone how they built something and watching them doing the equivalent of shrugging and going "Iunno".

Your entire schtick is not exchanging money, otherwise it wouldn't be piracy. This argument is 2+2=5 nonsense.

What even was that? A straw man? Emotional blackmail? It was a cheap shot, whatever it was. "I know you're a retard but you could be smart if you just agreed with me."

Steam offers 24 hour refunds.

I guess my already dumbdown explanation didn't sink in

How do they get paid if you're not paying them?
Because those games usually take between 6 months and a year to complete and release. People who WORK in those games need to get payed at least something in those months. That's where publishing houses come, they PAY THE DEV team to complete the games and then THE PUBLISHING HOUSE gets the rights from the sales of said games. Maybe they cut in some of the porcentage to Devs but very unlikely.

No no no! You are going to continue being retarded and giving Steam your money thinking it goes straight to devs.

Steam offers 24 hour refunds.
Of course they do, they are a service provider. What do you think they do after the 24 hours without refund? It is STEAM money then, not the devs.

You are just mad you don't have the balls to pirate shit. SteamCuck,

This isn't about now. Its about the long game. Look at Gamergate. There are plenty of great youtube videos explaining it. Can you cite them in a serious academic work? No? History will be written with all of the shitty articles you see.
And those, in turn, will be fucking ignored by everyone, because no one fucking cares, and they've already blamed it for everything from Donald Trump's election in 2016, to criticism of the Star Wars Movies, to people flaunting Coronavirus regulations.
