Saints Row thread

@Dom Cruise Funny enough, I mentioned Ghostbusters '16 at first, but rewrote that part. That movie bombed and even the home video release now calls itself "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call". It got renamed as to not cannibalize sales for the original :story:

And yeah, the whole worshipping corporations thing is creepy as hell. The entire punk rock notion of fighting the power and being much more DIY is fucking dead. I can't wait to see how they depict Ultor, if that'll even be a thing at all. Hell, I'll be shocked if the new boss of Ultor isn't a carbon copy of Donald Trump in all but name.

after scanning through my steam library, i found out i bought saints row the third at some point. turns out i only have 30 minutes game time on it.

should i give it another try?
Sure, why not, you already have it. It was pretty enjoyable and runs very well on PC. It's one of those games where a remaster existing is just perplexing, considering the original version still looks great and supports ultrawide displays, no patches necessary.

I just really can't get over this, we have a series known for edgy humor, they go out of their way to tone it down and somehow thought the fans were going to like that?

To make matters worse, we're not talking humor that was ever THAT edgy, just goofy Adult Swim style stuff and you're telling me even that is too much for modern culture to handle? Give me a break.
I think this reboot broke @Dom Cruise.

We just wanna make jokes but they get taken the wrong way so we have to be very careful. Hopefully normal spicy service will resume soon.

Bitch, if I poured a drop of tabasco sauce on your tongue, you'd be crying like you just got hit in the face with bear mace.

I like that they’re “not the same characters” even though the four of them literally look like knock-off versions of said characters.

Also, almost all this leaked in for is just…stuff you get to look at. Who the hell cares about a logo or the shape of a random building?

Though I bet you the main villain is a rich old white guy that wears a cowboy hat.

Iirc Dex was killed off in some cancelled spinoff game they had planned for mobile, i think. Dont know if they added any story to it, but i remember you do snipe his ass out
you mean money shot?
(please ignore the squeaky kid)
also Far Cry 6 let some dudes play beforehand and unlike volition/deep silver they let them dudes record it instead of "keeping it a secret", from the gifs you can guess far cry 5.5 since ubisoft wants to sell their game to as much people as possible.

So Dex's story will be left in a cliffhanger now? Way to piss off the OG fans even further.
Apparently you can find and kill him seven times in Gat Out of Hell, so there's that.

I don't even necessarily mind having a new cast of characters since Saints Row IV gave the old ones a decent conclusion (IMO anyway, I'm one of the degenerates that actually likes that game), but this shit's horrible. If the game fails and the series gets another reboot (after Volition dissolves, two flops in a row wouldn't end well for them), I wouldn't be shocked if they played it really safe by bringing some of them back to distance it from this nonsense.

TBF I accepted they would never finish that storyline by SR4. This hit hard back then beacuse I remember pre-SR3 rumors were all over the place and some alleged leakers were saying that SR3 would be all about the Boss' hunt for Dex, but (s)he would go alone and volition's idea of spicing things up would be that the Boss would have to befriend new people and pick which local gang to back in order to gain influence in whatever city it was Dex ran off to. I hyped myself up too hard and was let down by 3 and battered by 4, Only then did I reach the fifth stage of grief.

BTW that pissant of a cameo in GOH doesn't count. It's not even a unique NPC nor is there any interesting dialogue or resolution. Seeing the easter island from SR2 captured on a ship in SR3 was more of a follow-up than what GOH did with Dex.

Saints Row :Money Shot was a planned game meant to hold people over and hype them for Saints Row 3, but got scrapped due to THQ's big brain.
Volition has since claimed that due to it being cancelled it wasn't canonical, so the actual lore is Dex died along with the rest of the Earth when Zinyak blew it up.

Lol if this game flops the franchise is dead forever.
No major studio is going to care enough to buy it off Deep Silver and Deep Silver won't waste another dime on it again. It's not a hot IP; to the majority of 'gamers', this franchise is a GTA clone; there's plenty of other dead IPs they could buy for cheap instead.
Why buy one that has it's legacy as 2 good ones with average mechanics, 2 tight-controlling yet polarizing ones, and 2 absolutely shit ones?

So that's why Boss wanted to turn baxk time. So he could settle the score.

TL;DR Volition boxed itself into a corner in the first half of the decade by making increasingly outrageous games their brand, which caused their publisher to keep demanding crazier games thinking they’d always sell well, which Volition knew would eventually backfire because that’s not what fans want. After Agents of Mayhem’s failure caused company wide layoffs the only way Volition could get Saints Row 5 funded was by convincing the publisher that it’ll sell well with the youth market, and the new character designs are reflective of that. It’ll be a good game that we’ll just have to suspend disbelief over
"it'll be a good game" <insert happy soyjack gif>
good game? it's literally SR3~4 mechanics, of course the gameplay will be good but the story? not so much, characters? same shit.
and i quote this too, makes sense:

Why should I care for the company? I hear this excuse time and time again - buy this game, or the company goes under. And if you guilt trip people enough that it sells well - you still get bad sequel to a bad game. But if the game doesn't sell - well, if volition indeed goes under, somebody else will make saints row instead. Or there will be no more saints row - which is fine by me. No game is better than a bad one.

One day they will learn the fanbase had the say-so. They've been listening too much to woke twitter. Just because fans don't have a platform doesn't mean we doing exist anymore. Our existence revealed itself by the number of dislikes on the reveal trailer.

Wait they brought back Troy and Laura again?!
Lake Bell should replace her as Black Widow in everything and replace her as the Saints voice because it was really distracting hearing her try to be both comedic and sultry.

Also Charles Shaughnessy >>> every other voice from the franchise
