Saints Row thread

The saints row reddit has been taken over by a pr firm. Most of the regulars saw it happen 3 days after the announcement. It went from overwhelmingly hating the game to everyone defending it. Some regulars talked about it before the thread was wiped and then they either decided to fuck off or got banned I think.

Reddit is a shithole. I don't know why anyone with a brain uses it when it's censored to he'll and controlled by corps.

If the saints row subreddit was an accurate indication Volition wouldn't be trying to backpedal so much on twitter.

I'll just state given SR4 utterly fucked off on whatever plot it had even compared to SR3 that this fan theory is a big hell no for me. In fact this would make me hate SR4 even more if it wasn't for the fact this is just a fan theory.

And yeah, it's telling that even with buying and destroying the subreddit, they know they're fucked in sales. It's actually a fresh breath of air, but I know they're going to refuse to redo the damn game into something else.

So has that subreddit gone actually gone full North Korea, like how the original Last of Us subreddit did once the leaks for TLOU2 came out, and when they game actually came out, leading to people leaving there to go to The Last of Us 2 subreddit, just so they can actually criticize the awful story, and ND's crunch during TLOU2's development?

I know people have given that series some shit over not changing enough between new entries, but I've grown to appreciate it since this thing got announced. When you've got a decent formula, sometimes it doesn't need to be chucked out in favor of chasing a wildly different trend. Consistency can pay off, and it's nice that Ubisoft doesn't talk shit to their fanbase either.

Instead of ripping off Watch Dogs 2, Volition would be better off looking at how Ubisoft makes their Far Cry titles.

One thing I am glad they removed from Far Cry is the limiting malaria gimmick and "realism" game mechanics from 2 and those annoying "climb towers to progress" missions.

Plus, Far Cry is not a yearly franchise AFAIK so it can be easily digested. What you see is what you get.

They're adding wildlife in this reboot; that's Far Cry.

Reading this shit alone has given me africa flashbacks. Whoever though "Steal car, get chased and shot inside car, stop car to kill chasers, steal car, get chased and shot again" was a good gameplay loop deserves to catch malaria and super african aids.
I see a lot of ppl in the comment section drooling over FC2's balls, but I have a feeling these motherfuckers havent tried to play this game in 10+ years. Can you even name me one character from the plot that isnt one the buddies/Jackal? It had some interesting ideas but a lot of piss poor execution.

Havent played any Far Cry game since Blood Dragon, but in my book being "samey but fun" is better than "boring as shit".

FC2 has details because it's boring as hell, not taking your infinite malaria pills just keep giving you pseudo-headaches and that's about it.
you don't die at all, weapon degradation is shit too.
blood dragon is fun because it's, well, blood dragon but it does feel like a far cry 3.5.

nigger, get Far Cry 6, it's literally a good and "safe" game in this ocean of shittiness that is 2021/2022 gaming industry.
co-op is fun as hell too.

Never liked Far Cry 2 either, imo Far Cry as a series didn't start in earnest until 3.

There's got to come a time in which the suits are tired of losing money and ask themselves the question of "what is the point of all this shit?" Right? Right?

I mean certainly it's not a crazy enough world that the video game industry is just going to run itself into the ground before at some point someone, somewhere stands up and says "enough", right? Right?

In fact I am going to be very optimistic and say that the SR reboot's inevitable failure may in fact start a turning point where things change, shit just can't keep going like this forever, right?

Am I simply confusing them with THQ Nordic but does it seem odd to anyone else that Deep Silver is Woke? I just never got that impression, but I could simply not have been paying enough attention.

It honestly baffles me how this wasn't actually fixed by allowing you to shoot inside vehicles until Far Cry 4, yet everyone complains that Far Cry 4 "didn't change enough from Far Cry 3"

I like the African/Mercenary setting, but IDK how the fuck anyone playtested that game and wasn't like "Weapon jamming sucks ass." I also don't understand why they'd make half the guns have mounted weapons if you couldn't have your buddies drive or shoot them or have any sort of co op setup.

I honestly wish they'd try again with a war torn Africa setting. A lot of the environments in Far Cry 2 are great, but replace checkpoints with outposts and make the buddies work like guns for hire and ditch the whole faction system for an actual narrative since you have to play all the missions anyways.

You are confusing them. Deep Silver is a greedy company that has gone above and beyond to cut out content to make into DLC, they're hands-off for the most part except when it comes to giving more money to develop things.

I don't think Deep Silver has seen anywhere near enough return on investment with Volition as they thought they would have, so if this game flops then Deep Silver will likely shut them down and I hope that is what happens.

Yeah, this is why I'm curious about how much exactly has to sell for this to not be a flop.

Open World games have only gotten more and more expensive in the past 15 years. It feels like if you're not selling at least 10 million copies it's not profitable.

Saints Row 3 sold 5.5 million from what I've been able to find, and it sounds like it was the biggest seller in the series. They wouldn't even give figures for the fourth game. I find it hard to think this game is going to pull in even 5 million sales in todays market with GTA Online still seemingly going full blast.
