What's so upsetting about this situation to me is it provides such a perfect example and timeline of gaming now versus then, more so than just about any other series I can think of, even down to Gat Out of Hell, which came out in 2015, the last year that the last remnants of pre-Woke culture were left, like the last few embers in a dying fire.
It's just especially distressing to me think of how far we've fallen since just 2015.
Volition was one of my favorites
I think I said this earlier in the thread but I've always had a special affinity for Volition because they had an approach no other dev really had, in that they would pretty obviously take inspiration from a popular series/game but put their own unique spin on it, plenty of devs imitate but only Volition took special care into doing so in a way that didn't just feel like a pale imitation but something that stood up as very worthy when compared to the original.
In addition to that their games also really tried to capture the cultural zeitgeist of when they were made in a way that was a good thing back when the cultural zeitgeist wasn't so shitty and lame, Red Faction 2 has a very 2002 sci fi aesthetic, Saints Row 1 is very 2006, Saints Row 3 is
very 2011 even down to the dubstep gun and so on.
It's ironic really, in so closely following trends Volition wound up feeling unique.
And overall their games just had a nice, unpretentious, good clean fun vibe that is sorely lacking today, there's just something really noxious to me about Volition of all devs so falling prey to the Woke menace, I don't know, I just honestly expected better from them and it really shows just deep seeded the rot has become.
