Saints Row thread

I will confess, I am one of the "degenerates" that joined when 4 came around but I did play 2 and enjoyed it just fine, I can tell why people prefer its grounded (but still somewhat humorous) nature over 3 and especially 4. My overall opinion is that, despite all, Saints Row was never one thing....boring. The series was never boring and there was something to enjoy. Want more grounded? 2. Want more wacky? 3. Want balls to the wall insane? 4.

I coop-ed with my best friend and that was one of the best times in our gaming lives (to the point we make jokes about it to this day...like the time he crashed a plane into me, I shouted "You 9/11-ed me!!!" and he swore he was just after the bad guy in my front while we both laughed like maniacs). But I digress, back to what I said, this looks BORING and the perfect representation of current gaming.

Say whatever you think of 3 and 4, you cannot tell me for one second it wasnt proud of its wacky shameless nature. It felt like old south park in a way, a lot of situations of not so politically correct nature and the game having the time of its life while at it. And people loved it (the ones that didnt havent done so because they were offended, that wasnt the issue). It knew it was having fun and it wanted YOU to have fun too.

But now, this new SR looks exactly what I think a SR game would look in current gaming. Im sure Volation will try to cover their asses saying that its meant to be more like SR 2, but we all know thats a fucking excuse. Volation has been in finantial troubles for years, Agents of Mayham was a failure since people wanted SR 5, not some pointless spin off and now they are cashing all of their chips into a "current times" SR reboot. A very VERY boring looking one. It feels like Volation has managed to displease both pre and post SR 3 fans into agreeing that this looks like woke garbage.

Its clear none of the wacky humor of 4,3 and hell, not even 2 will be around. We live in a post humor society and this SR is starting to look exactly what a post humor SR would look like. It looks very hipster ish, not gangster at all..Not only that but the good old finger pointing is already here, with the usual suspects hard at work at defending this (they probably wont ever play it and, if they ever did, they would quit because most of them absolutely suck at games that arent constantly holding their hand) mostly because the people that they mindlessly hate are having problems with it and we know that enemy of my enemy is my friend with these people.

But I guarantee that this wont save Volation, trust me, this is a desperate final move to save themselves, to appeal to the people who probably wanted their previous games cancelled because of their offensive humor (or rather just humor in general, it does NOT take much to trigger the easily offended). This game will crash and burn because they will scare off their fans from both sides and the ones that defend them will most likely not play it.

And they god damn deserve to burn for this.

Nigger tries to say that donnie, matt and shaundi would be dead because people said that the new saints aren't gangstas, gets BTFO and admits to ignoring it.

Here are my opinions about the Saint's Row series so far... I don't think that they conform with most of your opinions about the Saint's Row series. I'm totally sorry about that. >.> Consider this my to be my ranking them in order from best to worst.

For my money, Saint's Row 3 is easily the most *fun* game in the series to play, and so it's also the best for me. Every single gameplay choice that they made seemed to be about maximizing the fun, and I appreciate the hell out of that...

Saint's Row 4 was almost as much fun to me, and it had a lot of great moments. Its DLC was also particularly fantastic. (I'm not talking about the micro transactions, I didn't buy those.) I'll admit, they got a little bit lazy with the worldbuilding, and that lost it some points for me, but I still don't get most of your hate for it. (or your hate for 3 for that matter)

Speaking of overrated (oh wait..), I found the pacing of Saint's Row 2 to be tedious to the point where it can be an actual chore to play through again, even though I will freely admit that it probably has the best story out of the 4.
Sure, I understand that you programmed a moderately entertaining minigame where you have to spray shit on people, but maybe I don't want to be *forced* to have to do that before I can get to the next part of said story, and the game severely suffers for that to me.

I'm gonna level with you all here... I didn't grow up with an Xbox 360, and I sure as hell didn't grow up with Saint's Row 1. But I have since played it... Without nostalgia goggles, and after having played the *far better* Saint's Row 2 (And also GTA San Andreas.). I'm sorry, it's just a slightly worse version of GTA San Andreas. I could honestly take or leave it. Especially when they never bothered officially porting it to PC (which I do most of my gaming on these days). Not a "bad" game, but easily the least interesting of the original numbered 4.

Gat Out of Hell sucked ass and I don't have anything more to say about that... It probably would have been the worst game in the series if they had stopped there...

I never played Agents of Mayhem, so I have even less to say about that... It looked fucking terrible though.

With all of that said, that reboot looks like shit, and I won't be playing it either.

Nigger, the whole "do activities a 1st time" is a recurring thing on saints row.
did you even get to the introductory part of kinzie's guardian angel? where that fucking bitch keeps saying the same goddamn quips every few seconds?
4 was the one that cut that bullshit and just made open world killcounters, however the superpower introduction stuff might be boring if you play it as multiple characters.

Plus you got bonuses for finishing an activity location with things like unlimited ammo of a certain type, unlimited sprint or new weapons and vehicles. Its been a while since I've played SR2 but from what I remember finishing one activity location gives you enough respect to kickstart you enough that as long as you do respect worthy stuff along the way, like headshots and driving like an asshole, you never have to respect grind for the rest of the story.

I guess you can't remember loose ends, because 3 ignored Dex due to the reshuffle and changed the characters and tone of the games with their Specialists and Brutes, and 4 did the same damn thing by ignoring the loose end that is Killbane and also dropping a nuke on the setting just to reuse a shittier lazier version of Steelport.

This proves you never played 2. You can literally just car surf, drive like a lunatic, and murder gangbangers to do the same thing. None of the activities are mandatory, you just get nice stuff when you complete more of them. Plus I KNOW you actually have to do activities a few times in the main game of 3.

I get the feeling you either didn't play the games, or your memory is just that bad.

They were built into the story "the first time" for 3, and I'm just gonna say it, they were downright more fun in 3, to the point where I actually wanted to stop and take over the city before finishing the story.

In 2, after every single story mission, you had to stop and build up your respect, and I didn't have that much fun doing most of the activities.
I can see I touched a lot of nerves by not just blindly sucking 2's dick. Funny, considering I said it even probably has the best story of the 4. The absolute state of this fandom, no wonder we're getting a shitty woke reboot.

Or it could be you just proved you didn't play the games and are trying to save face given how you didn't even remember how easy it is to gain respect by just driving down the wrong lane everywhere.

built? nigger, they were CRAMMED into it and all you got was a small text filler for them and some hood %, they were variations of the same shit.
you'll do pierce's trafficking mission...
...before zimos's trafficking missions.
and guess what? it's the same shit, go to a place, sit in a corner while random bullshit % rolls for you to kill the buyer or not, go to the next place until the fuck off conditions are met.

as adam said, you did not, just do some basejumps and surf cars instead since the game always gave multipliers, side missions weren't enforced on you via "story" unlike 3, you just had a respect cap that you needed to fill and these activities were teased to the player, completing them about 6 times gives you a special reward.

nooo, you didn't touched nerves by not sucking SR2's dick.
you touched nerves for sperging like a retard about shit you either forgot or do not know.

Activities would reward arguably the best non-cheat weapons in the game and unlimited ammo for them, as well as character bonuses to lessen damage and, as you mentioned, Unlimited Sprint, which is a must have IMO. In that sense - if you wanted all the advantages you could get w/o actually using cheats - Activities were actually necessary, but only in that sense.

Imagine liking trash like Tiger Escort and Guardian Angel over Fuzz and Fight Club.

Trafficking was cool cause you can use the Rim Jobs glitch to make the Challenger and Crusader nearly indestructible and you can rack up the respect in the turret.
Every activity in Saint's Row 2 had a little cutscene giving context to it. I liked the one where Jane Valderamma tells you to go on a murder spree because it's a slow news day.

best volition game coming through:

Here, here. At least we have the mega-autism at Hard Light to keep that alive.

Playing 2 now. Seems to crash every hour even with the mod, but I'm still having a blast. I hope Volition doesn't touch it, tbh. I'm worried they might try to remove the "offensive" elements when they try to patch it.

I remember in 1, you had to do activities to get Respect for missions. That system existed in 2, but it's practically non existent since you can get Respect quickly and freely compared to 1.

That was either Fuzz or Mayhem? Both fun diversions. I liked that 2 had rampages but not GTA IV.

Quit with the faggy "you have a different opinion from me, therefore you didn't even play the game." Also check the time stamps, I made that post where I'm supposedly "saving face" literally seconds after you made yours. I wish I could type that fast, but I very clearly wasn't even talking to you.
