Saints Row thread

Yeah, this is why I'm curious about how much exactly has to sell for this to not be a flop.

Open World games have only gotten more and more expensive in the past 15 years. It feels like if you're not selling at least 10 million copies it's not profitable.

Saints Row 3 sold 5.5 million from what I've been able to find, and it sounds like it was the biggest seller in the series. They wouldn't even give figures for the fourth game. I find it hard to think this game is going to pull in even 5 million sales in todays market with GTA Online still seemingly going full blast.
At least GTA Online has the "Fuck you, pay me" mentality in the story. There's so little politics about any of it that I'm actually shocked given that it's not the A-Team behind it, I figured they'd let their interns run amok, but so far that hasn't happened. There's no real justification with any of the characters in GTA Online and that it's just, "I want money, I want infamy, I want more." and here you got Volition saying, "Oh they're just poor kids from a poor family, spare them their life from this monstrosity." Fuck off.

They don't even come off as poor kids from poor families, they all come off as spoiled brats that think they're too good to get an honest job and want excitement. Which would be fine if they were played like psychopaths in that regard, because they would be, but that's not what you get... you get Volition trying to say that deep down they're good kids and have little choice. Seriously?

I've figured out another missed opportunity with this reboot. Have it go back to its roots from SR1+2 with the gangsta theme....

And use Young Maylay's music in the soundtrack. For those who don't know, Young Maylay was the voice of CJ from GTA: San Andreas. He's also a rapper.

It would be good publicity for both Maylay and SR. GTA players would make the connection with Maylay from CJ, see Saints Row be a gangsta game and possibly buy it in droves.

Get those good ideas outta here, we're here to make a statement not money!!!

Well, the trailer did do something indirectly nice: it clued me into the Gentlemen of the Row mod. RIP Idolninja.

I hope this takes Volition under. It looks like 3 with a plastic corporate facade, and if I wanted 3's gameplay I'd just play 3.

Hell, I would've tolerated this concept as DLC.
I actually like the idea of an open world game taking place in a desert, I kinda thought that the GTA and old Saints Row games being islands was weird (yes, I know they're not supposed to be islands, but seeing Liberty City or Stillwater in the middle of nowhere was still odd). Since I felt GTA V dropped the ball with its desert, I find the chance for it to be done justice appealing.

I just wish it wasn't bundled with these characters, insufferable writing, and overly sanitized setting.

From a gameplay perspective, I personally disagree. A desert has too much dead space. Red Dead Redemption is the exception. You could hunt, capture gang hideouts, collect plants, even evade the law that way.

Agreed, these characters and writing are insufferably bad.

You're describing a game people might actually want to play, silly. Volition is going for that critical acclaim - you know, traditionally the most important thing to consider when making a fucking Saints Row game.

Edit: You can skip to around 17:30 once he gets into the political deep dive to get back to Saints Row talk.

>many people mention Maneater as being a good alternative to Saints Row

>president of Tripwire comes out as conservative

So since he's against killing babies but features mutant sharks devouring fat black women in bikinis in his games we now have a retard fight on which open world murder game is more morally correct

I hope this leads to a huge fucking slapfight, this has all the elements of one.

So, I hear there's a new Saints Row, finally! Hell yeah, here we fucking go!

Wait a sec, lemme load up the trailer.

What the fuck? Why is the like/dislike ratio so bad? Wait a fucking minute. I gotta scroll down and read the comments. There has to be an explanation for this.

Oh no.

Oh shit. Should I even watch the trailer? Should I?

Fuck it.

*see sassy goblina defend her lanky antifa college turd friends against proud boy caricatures with a minigun and a rocket launcher while spouting PG-13 one-liners and staring into the camera assertively*

Oh god. Oh god, no.

Another great studio has fallen to the fucking Danger Hairs.

Why? Why do these goddamn mutants do this?

Gta online could have been good. Imagine if they'd taken the gang warfare concept from san andreas, expanded it, combined some ideas from dark souls multiplayer with covenants(gangs), kept the corporation stuff, and just gave you a big brutal city to dick around in and take over. I really feel like rockstar could have done so much more. They give you this big awesome world, then give you lobbies and parkour maps...
