At least GTA Online has the "Fuck you, pay me" mentality in the story. There's so little politics about any of it that I'm actually shocked given that it's not the A-Team behind it, I figured they'd let their interns run amok, but so far that hasn't happened. There's no real justification with any of the characters in GTA Online and that it's just, "I want money, I want infamy, I want more." and here you got Volition saying, "Oh they're just poor kids from a poor family, spare them their life from this monstrosity." Fuck off.Yeah, this is why I'm curious about how much exactly has to sell for this to not be a flop.
Open World games have only gotten more and more expensive in the past 15 years. It feels like if you're not selling at least 10 million copies it's not profitable.
Saints Row 3 sold 5.5 million from what I've been able to find, and it sounds like it was the biggest seller in the series. They wouldn't even give figures for the fourth game. I find it hard to think this game is going to pull in even 5 million sales in todays market with GTA Online still seemingly going full blast.
They don't even come off as poor kids from poor families, they all come off as spoiled brats that think they're too good to get an honest job and want excitement. Which would be fine if they were played like psychopaths in that regard, because they would be, but that's not what you get... you get Volition trying to say that deep down they're good kids and have little choice. Seriously?
