Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

In somewhat more positive news and I am a littlke late to say this but a very Happy 54th birthday to My life as a teenage robot creator Rob Renzetti. Guy looks good for his age aside the baldness but hes had that chrome dome as long as i can remember.

Actually, considering how shit Nickelodeon treats its cartoons that aren't either SpongeBob or The Loud House, (the aforementioned My Life as a Teenage Robot being one of the many prime examples) if Phoebe & Her Unicorn doesn't pull in numbers comparable to either of those, it's done-zo. And oooh Nelly, the tears from the LGBT+ fetishizers and Simpson would taste especially delicious then, more so than the ones currently being spilled from The Owl House (at least for me personally). :unholy:

question is will be based on the bland if harmless early strips or will the network go full retard and base it off the modern day sjw pheoboe comics including the non biarny unicorn one?

He was also on MLP in its early seasons and departed shortly after Lauren Faust.

Honestly, I think it'll go like this, much like the original comic itself (and The Owl House, now that I think about it): it'll start with being bland, if harmless. Then, once the 2 million+ little girls who bought the books get nice and comfortable with their perfectly serviceable adaptation of their favorite comic strip, it will, as you so elegantly put it, "go full retard" and introduce the non-binary unicorn, the main male character (Max)'s lesbian moms (can't have any positive, traditionally masculine role models, noooooo, they've gotta be tech-CONSOOMING soyboy neckbeards like Phoebe's dad and Max) and full-on author tracts about the "problematic" media of the past:
REEEE STUFF I WATCHED AS A KID BAD BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MADE IN CURRENT YEAR.JPG

BTW, take a wild guess as to who Phoebe's mom is based on.

And need we forget the creepy AF innuendos/references to Simpson's shaving fetish?

In case you missed it, the implication is that her newfound tail tore through her skirt (and by consequence, her panties).

And if you can believe it, it was even worse during the comic's development, when there wasn't even a unicorn at all:
SOMEBODY GAVE A SYNDICATED COMIC STRIP TO THIS PERSON.JPG

SOMEONE TOOK A LOOK AT THIS AND SAID "Yes, this is a perfectly fine candidate to make comics for kids!" :stress:

Ah yes. Bragging. The cornerstone of any likeable character!

At some point, it was originally gonna be even more of a blatant Ozy and Millie clone than the final comic already is.

Judging by this, the kids tuning into Nickelodeon are in for a rollicking fun time! Heh heh heh....heh.....heh.....*sigh* Why oh why couldn't the masses bestow Count Your Sheep with love instead?

I notice that a lot in western animation both for kids and adults in recent years. Season 1 or hell the first few episodes tend to start off either bland but harmless. You can just shrug it off and go "eh" or even "wow this looks promising." That's actually my take on owl house as I've stated before.

Then once a second season rolls around the creator's masks come off. They start to add in all the usual talking points they should keep relegated to their twitter/tumblr feeds. From luz and amity being confirmed as bi and lez then officially made a couple on owl house, to the infamous tone shift of bojack horseman. Though tbf that was a case of tonal shift working in a shows favor as opposed to against it, that show starts off as little more than a show about an egotistical has been trying to get famous again and by the end well...I think it speaks for itself given how dark and emotional bojack got.

point is when it comes to modern western animation if a first season seems almost too good too be true...there's a chance that it is.

This is why I usually wait until something has been airing for a while to bother watching it. I've just been bait and switched too many times to be suckered by a first season. I've never really regretted it and it means I can start out with a nice binge. It's not like it's going anywhere.

Daily reminder that Alex Hirsch has the ego of Jupiter.

This is the type of shit that helped get Owl House canceled. Obnoxious gaylords getting all "Wow you got a problem with gay people? Deal with it!" and being instigators over fictional cartoon shows meant for kids, not grown-ass adults.

I know I'm a fucking Slowpoke but I also just found out that Alex is executive producing the upcoming show, Inside Job. I can't wait for severe TDS and political commentary from the certified gOOd Boy redditor...

They'll never look inward, though. They'll blame the "HoMoPhObEs At DiSnEy!" and reeeeee to the heavens. And then it's onto the next woke propaganda piece cartoon du jor.

Yeeeeep:
From convoluted coverups to secret societies to masked orgy etiquette, navigating office culture at Cognito Inc. can be tricky, especially for anti-social tech genius Reagan Ridley (Lizzy Caplan). Even in a workplace filled with reptilian shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms, she's seen as the odd one out for believing the world could be a better place. Reagan thinks she can make a difference, if only she could manage her unhinged, manifesto-writing father Rand (Christian Slater) and her irresponsible coworkers, and finally snag the promotion she's been dreaming about.
Yet another "HYPER-COMPETENT WAHMAN IS KEPT DOWN BY EVIL MEN HURR DURR" plot.

So i dont know if any one else cares but 101 Dalmation street has been cancelled due to low ratings in the US despite being dumped onto Disney plus here in the states. True to most Brirish TV, it took them 2 years to complete and release all 26 episodes of the first season.

Kinda a shame since it was better than a 101 Dalmatians spinoff had any right to be especially since it came out in the wake of the curella movie (though i have to wonder if that film was somewhat influential to Dalmatian st's cancellation) wasn't a woke fest trying to push some message on the viewers it was a fun little animated series that wanted to tell stories about dogs. Though keeping the original Curella from the 60's alive was kinda a stretch, i mean hotel transylvannia 3 had something of an excuses for the original Van Helsing to still be alive in 2017.

This show had the most efforts put into its background arts and shot composition compared to most modern cartoons. And the animation wasn't made by underpaid animators in Korea. It had endearing characters and the most unapologetically evil cruella that ever existed in the franchise.

I hate to bring up the Ren & Stimpy reboot again, but it appears that it’s still on according to Billy West and he thinks that Bob Camp, Bill Wray, and Jim Gomez will have some involvement with it.

I’d say pay attention to animation Twitter sperging about it being continued but…

…yeah, some people aren’t happy about it. Thankfully more saner heads are tweaking the lead in this time around if the quote rewteets are any indication.

If he thinks Bob Camp, Bill Wray and Jim Gomez are involved, this can't be the reboot that was announced last year. Bob said at the time that he wasn't involved... but Billy saying this can't have come out of nowhere. This must be a new reboot.

If they are indeed involved, then I wonder what the executives thought. Maybe they decided to go and get the people who know the show - the thing they should have done in the beginning?

There's been no word from any three of them on whether they are involved in this, so there's no way to tell if it's true or not. (There are people I could ask who might know, however.)
