2020 Oscars Discussion - complain about how Uncut Gems nor the Lighthouse weren't nominated here

The tears begin

Parasite is like my fourth fave film, behind Once Upon a Time, Joker, and 1917 respectively. But it's still a pretty damn good film. And hey, all my films, even Jojo Rabbit, got some awards tonight. I mostly was hanging on Joaquin's win and 1917 for cinematography. So for the most part, I'm happy.

I just wish I hadn't had to suffer through all the political garbage though. It was particularly insufferable and cringe this year.

The spread. The only best picture nominee shut out was The Irishman, which was more of a fuck you to Netflix above anything.

Literally a Korean film that was made in Korea, has an entirely Korean cast and crew, and is in solely in the Korean language won a shit ton of awards, including Best Picture! How the fuck were minorities excluded and ignored?

I wish they'd just admit that when they say "poc" they really mean black. Because you know they're just bitching because not enough black people won for their tastes.

Foreigners Don't count because they don't help me exert my existential bullshit upon society under the guise of resisting against the bad whitey.

After the Korean sweep, you had a Maori guy win for screenplay, a gay guy for song, a woman for score (almost never happens), and then they go and open the show with a lesbian and a flaming-from-outer-space gay dude, both black.

These people will never be satisfied.

ETA:
“Reeeee only one black winner and it wasn’t even for acting reeeeeee”

The black guy that won tonight— that this person apparently can’t even bother to name— is Matthew Cherry, a director/writer/producer. He’s not a total nobody in the industry either.

You want to bitch about representation? Representation begins with guys like him, the guys that are actually producing shit and getting things made. The focus on actors is so superficial. Giving Mahershala or Denzel another Oscar is going to do fuck all to get “diverse” projects made.

This goes beyond never being satisfied; these people are too dumb to even understand how this shit works.

No it belonged to Robert Eggers, but he got snubbed

One of the most frustrating things about the Oscars is their clear bias against films with a thriller/horror genre angle. I'm pissed to shit Midsommar didn't get any nominations. But I'm numb to it at this point after Hereditary was snubbed a year or so ago.

After Moonlight and Green Book, Joker winning Best Picture was practically impossible, more as a statement than anything else. Considering the controversy, I’m pleasantly surprised that it even got the two that it did.

Didn't expect Parasite to win Best Picture, but this is great news to wake up to. Seeing Lee Sun-kyun and Park So-Dam on the stage makes me so happy.

Until the day a black trans lesbian sex worker in a colored wheelchair sweeps the awards ceremony, we will never be free!

Oh, I don't know. The Shape of Water was Best Picture two years ago and it was pretty unconventional and atypical for a Best Picture choice. Once the woke shit finally dies down, everyone is going to figure out how much of a jackass they acted around Joker. The movie has Classic written all over it, especially now that it's achieved meme status.

I think a lot of it has to do with A24, They're the new company on the block and they've consistently put out good original films that lack the shallow corporatism that you see in Big studio productions. Just look at the press reception Greta Gerwig got for Little women, which is distributed by Sony, compared to the reception for Lady Bird, which A24 distributed.
