Assassin's Creed thread

First showcase of Yasuke was them testing out the physics engine by having Yasuke smash up a grocery store.
No fucking way. Next we're gonna find out there they did the same thing with box stores and department stores. In the event Ubisoft kicks the bucket sometime neat year, on please oh please some disgruntled employee had better leak footage of this.
Skill and Bones is what sank the company since it cost 800 million to make.
:stress: Is it time to revive that thread?
Ubisoft higher ups are contemplating removing Yasuke entirely but it is unlikely because the workforce is woke and will revolt/political backlash
They better not. Stick to your guns and ride this sinking ship into Davy Jones' Locker. I'm here for a shitshow and by God, I will have one!

- Game used to have a Japanese male samurai lead that was removed for sociopolitical reasons in 2020 due to George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. Yes, really.
This has been mentioned before. Supposedly Ubisoft contracted a company to write the story and after talking with Ubisoft's narrative leads, they submitted it around 2014 and it was approved, only to find that it got thrown out in favor of black Samurai. Your character was a monk named was named Taka, as Taka translates to Hawk and that follows the whole "eagle name" scheme. The primary conflict was suppose to be about the Sword of Eden. Your mentor, Hanzo Hattori, assassinates Oda Nobunaga and acquires the sword. As the brotherhood tries to get it out of Japan, the Jesuits (the Templars) intercept it and Hanzo is assassinated. Hideyoshi, who is working with the Jesuits, gets the sword and tries to conquer Korea. The invasion is initially successful because he has the sword but eventually Taka gets it back, which causes the Korean invasion to fall apart and Hideyoshi to go insane as he kills the Jesuits because he thinks they betrayed him.

This feels like exaggerating. Maybe it was a misunderstanding and they meant Yasuke was smashing up feudal era wooden grocery stands because of how fragile they were and how many moving parts there were.

Wasn't the game heavily subsidized by the Singapore government? They tried to cancel the game but the government kept funneling money into that pit and it just grew into an enormous bomb.

A dev journal of Assassin's Creed shadows has been leaked on IGN China. Can't find an archive of the video, but here's one of many articles talking about it.

The game has been delayed to February 2025 (A) , following a series of rumors that stemmed from Ubisoft pulling out of the Tokyo Game Show (A). Japanese users are goofing on Ubisoft in the replies.

Hopefully the delay will result in a decentass game, but probably not.
Unless they plan on scrapping Yasuke or adding in a Japanese male samurai as a playable character, the delay will make little difference imo. In fact, the delay is even worse - people will just sleep on this for Ghost of Yotei, because even if that game looks a little pozzed as well it has a better reputation for good gameplay and design.

All they had to do was make a "Way of the Samurai" with some added in stealth elements and they would have printed money like it was 2020 all over again.
The fact they fucked up this hard every step of the way makes me think that Sweet Baby Inc. and friends and their endgame of "burning gaming to the ground" might be legit. There is no way you would make this many mistakes unless it was deliberate, to destroy the studio in question. Even Ubisoft isn't this fucking stupid.
Well, let them burn ubishit to the ground anyways, not like anything of value will be lost when they finally sink. Just make sure some studio buys out the Rayman, Splinter Cell and rest of the good IPs from them.

So I haven't touched an Ass Creed since 3, and I just started replaying 1 for the hell of it. I gotta ask where the fuck does the plot go from there? Desmond is dead, the entire plotline they were building up from the beginning has been resolved, how do you dump like 20 sequels on top of that? Unless they just said fuck it, did away with the present day animus bullshit and just made it into a historical anthology series.
Most of the cities Altair "frees" end up overrun by beggars, crazies and thieves since the templars and their followers were the only thing keeping order.
Now that you mention that, I realized that on the first chapter at least I have not been bothered at all by beggar/drunk npc's I remember being annoying as shit, even in the "poor" district. That's a pretty neat little detail.

Yes, they are that stupid.

Even after the torii gate, their own employees went "don't listen to the haters" on social media. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" means jack to them since the neurodivergent fucks go "...But we aren't going to hell", truly believing their own hype. They're fine admitting their stock lost 90% of its valuation since its peak, but not the why.

Besides, it's not like anyone wants to actually admit they kept disrespecting the Japanese repeatedly.

IMO it's too late for them to remove Yasuke, and the easiest thing for Ubi to do from now on without excessive rework is:

- Stop advertising Yasuke, just focus on the ninja girl instead since she has the most to do with Ass Creed. Get rid of his merchandising in Japan and focus on her instead.
- Softlock Yasuke from being able to curbstomp Jap villagers or having them bow to him (the Japanese likely consider it distasteful given the false history, the rather visceral US black-on-asian crime wave, and US soldiers occasionally non-consensually blaccing Okinawan girls).
- Tweak Yasuke's story to de-emphasize his being a samurai since none of it was true in the first place.
- Do an Ass Creed Vahalla-style main character split where you choose the ninja or Yasuke at the start and the other is no longer involved in the gameplay whatsoever- in this case it may involve tweaking or even removing missions. If you choose the ninja girl, the extent of Yasuke's presence should be as an NPC and in cutscenes.

There you have it, the game is now bifurcated so that people who don't want samurais n sheetz can have their game, and those who want afrosamurais can have their game.

In my opinion, Yasuke was likely not a game-killer considering other media where he was present, but the way they tastelessly advertised him off the bat (as a samurai in full samurai armor, having villagers bow to him, hip hop music, looking like a Christmas tree in feudal Japan) is what killed initial goodwill for this game, especially in an era of post-Floyd blacc fatigue and mounting Sweet Baby DEI industry failures.

After that, everyone critical of that choice hyperfixated on other flaws seen in the trailers, creating a negative feedback loop and revealing other issues (most importantly Thomas Lockley's fake Yasuke history). The most important thing Ubisoft failed to account for in this scenario is that the Japanese are monomaniacal about their hobbies- and that they will find those flaws if you have stumbled on your first step, especially if those flaws deal with things they hold dear, like their history.

maybe I'm late, gay and schizo but could it be that the delay of Shadows is because Ubisoft uses the clan symbol of the Oda family without asking?

The delay is due to a general fear that Japan might unironically sue their asses and bankrupt them, apparently. The tori gate merchandise was stated to be the straw that broke the camel's back with a delay beyond nigger month being very likely.

Word is that Ubisoft is scrambling behind the scenes since they don't have the resources necessary to do a massive rework, groups are pushing Ubisoft employees to go on strike over returning to the office, and the very real potential that the Japanese government will get involved.

The only thing that could save this game would be the removal of Yasuke as a playable character in favor of a male samurai lead, but there's no way they're going to do that at this stage. They're basically fucked no matter what they do. Release the game as-is and have a massive flop on their hands, rework the game into a less-woke version and earn the ire of the western gaming press, none of their moves are good and this came at the worst possible time.

Apparently they're going for a middle ground where they're going to downplay Yasuke's role in the narrative, probably sandpaper off some scenes where Yasuke does the wakanda salute and beheads a white christian male, they've already removed the hip-hop nigger beats for his combat theme. According to Endymion there was a scene already included that was 'guaranteed to upset a lot of people' so they're probably going to remove that.

I bet there was some kind of scene in there where he brutally slaughters some racist japs who question his samurai status and Nobunaga gets on his hands and knees and metaphorically polishes Yasuke's BBC for twenty minutes.

No joke, the first game after AC3 (AC4: Black Flag) has you play as a game dev working at Abstergo Game Studios in 1st person. There's no need to be a descendant anymore because they just need the DNA of the person, whether it be direct or from descendants. The protagonist of AC4 is actually the grandfather of the AC3 protagonist and Abstergo can access this because they recovered Desmond's body and collected his DNA. So you're just some random game dev fag that's experiencing Black Flag's protagonist histories for info for their game.

They spin their wheels for a bunch of games with random fucks just playing through ancestor memories until the RPG series starts with Origins, where they finally introduce a recurring AC modern day protagonist, Layla. Supposedly she's going to have a role to play in an upcoming apocalyptic event like Desmond but I don't know the details, I never finished those games because they were a slog.

Layla is fucking awful and I'm glad they killed her off. Does anyone care about spoilers for that shit?

She's a stereotypical brown girl boss who invented the new better animus that didn't need a defendant to be used and everyone loves her. Her combined with Cassandra in Odyssey was really the final straw for this series for me. They were both insufferable together. At least in Origins you could get away from the girlbossing with Bayek.

Valhalla also made everything worse. I watched my brother play the start and I barely made it to the first village before it annoyed me too much.

They really need to let the series die.

It's funny because there was potential in the modern day story as the metanarrative, but with its repeated failures fans just cope that the draw of Ass Creed is in the historical parts.

They should have just stuck to Rebecca and Shawn as the secondary main characters in the modern day story since they were genuinely fun characters. Just have the player as being various Desmond fill-ins, and have them as the connecting narrative thread.

They sort of did that with Layla in Vahalla, and it was nice to see them again- with the setup with Basim coming back, there's potential to revive a whole MC Desmond-esque modern day story, but clearly Shadows has greater issues of its own with the problems in the historical part of the game.
