Again, I'm a little addled right now, but it's strange to me that there's this big push to immediately shit on some large budget project a large studio is about to release. It worked on Dragon Age pretty well but I have a friend on steam who has fairly good taste that I see playing it a lot. Obviously there's something good about it if he likes it, might be that there's some things there worth exploring. Not worth buying at release but maybe worth taking a look at later on. I would say it's not out of spite. It's about not supporting a company that actively wants to discriminate against you if you are white. It is not about the game having pronouns or being woke. Those things do not make a game shit. It is about a studio that does not care all that much about the game's quality or if it will be successful or not.

The increase of visual fidelity lead to a decrease in the necessity of art direction. Those characters in old games while objectively worse looking by polygon counts, texture sizes etc, were forced to work within limitations to be more visually compelling and coherent with less.

I look at the gameplay previews, and all I can think, every time I see it, is "How do you take what Skyrim did almost fifteen years ago now, or what Dark Messiah of Might and Magic perfected almost twenty years ago now, and make it look that boring, stiff, slow, and unresponsive?

Pillars of Eternity had like 9 classes that could all be multi-classed with others, and all with different subclasses. They changed this to "warrior, mage, ranger", and it's somehow supposed to be an upgrade. I saw that before the culture war baiting and knew it'd be shit.

Avowed was pretty much a garunteed sale for me, as I wasn't following the development process very closely, I just wanted more content from this IP in this world.
