Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

I finished it on Monday got an ending of freedom from Aedyr and let Sapadal in instead of freeing it or destroy it. it's a solid 5.5 game. 6 if you played Pillars of Eternity. AoE spells are fun. Even exploration is somewhat enjoyable. You can even avoid some fights by being sneaky enough. Main plot is okay - you are a godlike of natural born god instead of man-made ones, who lost their power at the beginning of the game due to the wheel being destroyed by Eothas.. What wasn't fun is current year additions. Typical rot of progtards. I would not recommend it to buy for a full price. Either pirate, or wait for 80% discount. That if you like Pillars of Eternity setting

I say don't buy it at all, pirate it instead. The reddit writing alone justifies not giving devs a single shekel. Zoomer brainrot vernacular and unneeded cussing disqualify it. What would it take for someone competent to write dialogues using proper, archaic vernacular? Something like Planescape: Torment or Legacy of Kain? I could even excuse faggotry in the main story, since in all cases the faggots were fucked up in the head in more ways that just being attracted to their own sex, so it's kind of believable that they could exist, since disorder begets a disorder, but I cannot justify any character in a medieval fantasy setting responding to anything with "Yikes!".

And it really makes sense when you think about it. A company with leftists in charge will not hire the best people for the job (who, 99% of the time are going to be a White or East Asian, heterosexual men), but whichever human detritus best aligns with their arcane and undecipherable race/sex/gender quotas.

And it only goes downhill from there - these people they hire hate games, hate gamers, have no idea what makes a good game nor do they particularly care. Since the wokies are too busy "dunking" on random strangers online, very little time is devoted to the actual development of the game. Not that they could actually make the game even if they wanted to, mind you, since nearly all of them lack the necessary skills and talent.

What this means is endless delays and bloating budgets, and contractors - lots and lots of jeet contractors.

Ultimately, the end product is a project managed by people that hate the medium and the audience, and being made by low IQ jeets that could give less of a shit about the quality of their contributions.

You can apply this same pattern to every other medium in the West - books, comics, movies, TV shows etc.

Oh you're right here. I was mostly thinking about the game message pushing. But now that I think about that even it has just really bland woke bullshit.
The incompetency of the people making it is the woke for sure.

I love how this dude compares Avowed to "Bioware's golden years"(Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age Origins) and then spends the next half an hour debunking himself. Then again, he might not have even played those games, as he admitted he plays more scavenger/survival games than RPGs nowdays, lmfao. Ironic then that he cries so much about how people "complain about wrong things" while also bitching that people didn't complain about Outer Worlds enough. I dunno, you can actually kill everyone in Outer Worlds and it has working social mechanics, what does Avowed have that Outer Worlds doesn't? Swimming, slightly improved combat? At the cost of everything else? People have every right to complain about both, but Avowed definitely came up shorter, hell it doesn't look like you can even give your companions any gear anymore so they kinda plateau and don't become much better as the game goes on. For anyone who played the game, is this true? If so, this is pathetic. OW straight up let you have a companion centric leader build with much of the endgame gear you would never use being handed to them, here it looks like companions only exist to distract the enemy and soak up a bit of damage, kind of like in the first Fallout game. He even bitches that there was a bit of gear in the very end of the game he had no use for and had to throw away. Gee, if only his blue man or his dwarf could use that bit of armor instead to make them more useful in combat!
Of course, he sees no problem with the "woke" elements of the game as he is one of those people who is trying to re-write what that means. He's also implying that Scotland being "slightly ethnic"(ie implying there were enough niggers back then to warrant that description) also isn't bad. Dude is slowly suffocating to his own farts, Avowed is not the game you want to ruin your career defending.
BTW, he makes a jab at New Vegas fanboys "not remembering the game" and only liking it due to nostalgia. No Patrician, I am currently doing a playthru on an Xbox 360, same copy I played 15 years ago. No mods, no fixes, just the patched game with DLC, and it's still one of the GOATs of that generation, this isn't nostalgia. You will just have to accept that Obsidian is dead and Avowed is a mediocre piece of shit. According to you, I should be the target audience for this game, but if anything, all your footage is doing for me is making me want to give OW another try. Not pirate this game mind you, it doesn't seem like it's worth the bandwith or time it would take to download, nor the 70+GB it would take on my hard drive, but I will gladly go for another 60-80 hours of Outer Worlds instead while I wait for the sequel.

Speaking of which, Patrician is doubling down on his "this game is just like New Vegas and old Bioware games!" take in his second video. He still bitches about how Outer Worlds is worse, despite him mentioning that it has an active crime system and Avowed doesn't. He even tries excusing it because...Mass Effect didn't let you steal or kill friendly NPCs? First of all, how is Mass Effect even in equation here when it is a completely different game, second do we have to pull up features from THAT game that Avowed is missing almost 20 years later, and three this doesn't work when Outer Worlds had these systems and a game based off the same(or similar) engine doesn't. Fourth, was there a progenitor to Mass Effect that had a crime system while Mass Effect didn't? No, there wasn't, it was a stand alone game, so the comparison falls flat here.
He is also very much pissed about the Oblivion and Skyrim comparison videos, despite him not being able to debunk them. Dude isn't as good at making arguments as he thinks he is, I guess he really is a one trick pony that can only over-analyze Bethesda games for hours since whenever he tries doing so to non-Bethesda games(Outer Worlds, Avowed) he hopelessly flails about like an amateur game critic he is. Stick to what you know, dude.
I will give him credit, he is spot-on during his political segment about anti-SJWs and comparing them to the feminists during the first Gamergate era.

To clarify since he'd rather be obtuse; I was referring to off hand comment he made in a livestream not that video specifically and it's hardly a damning critique. Honestly Avowed isn't really worth the mental effort to think about and it's not even that enjoyable to poke fun at.

Has there been anyone in this thread that even talked about any trannies in this game? I doubt there is any, let alone every other character being one, and I have not heard this take elsewhere either. Sounds like you created a strawman to make yourself feel better about your shit tastes in games there, Pat.
He might unironically be the biggest shill for this game right now, since there is NOBODY else defending it. Hell, nobody else even cares about it anymore.

I will go a step further and say that this game is so unremarkable that whenever someone talks about it in the future, people will say "Hey, isn't this that game made by Obsidian that Patrician shilled for whatever reason?"
It will be THAT game, not something people remember because it does not warrant any serious emotional investment. Positive or negative.

Yeah i think the worst part of it all when comes to patrician tv is the fact he's complaining that people are complaining about the wrong thing for this game. This is a 70$ dollar mediocre game. The game was advertised to be like skyrim instead we got a game that had barely any of the interactivity of previous bethesda and obsidian games. It wasn't advertised to be like Alpha protocol or Witcher or mass affect. Right now a indie game called tainted grail which is in a similar vain to avowed has killable NPC, moving npc, a crime system and most importantly better writing and it's far cheaper.

The only reason I would ever play this is because I enjoyed combat in Outer Worlds and I want to see how they improved on it. Everything else seems worse, to the point where I can barely call it an RPG and more of an action game with a stat tree and leveled equipment(big difference that most normalcattle can't notice).

He's being disingenuous and blames people talking about trannies for not buying it. His comments make no sense because he build a strawman instead of engaging with real complaints people have. This isn't new, blind fanboys(like NeverKnowsBest OH THE IRONY) do it all the time. Question here is, why kill your own reputation over this game of all the other ones he covered?

I think i got infected by the Dreamscourge since im starting to like this game.

Just hear me out

The gameplay is serviceable when it works ( your attacks actually doing something) but may god help you if you fight enemies a tier above or 2 skulls ahead of you. My melee attacks bounces off them and i cant preform my combo that kill most of them. The main story itself is boring but the stuff that happens in the sideline is much more interesting from a story stand point. You are an ambassador from another country trying to spread its influence to a "untamed" land and the natives either dont trust you or outright hate you. You can either go full on shill for the empire or start de-trusting it and defecting from it. Not done with the game yet so i dont know how that will effect the final outcome but i do find it interesting so far. kinda reminds me of Tyranny (another game made by Obsidian).

The Steel Garrote that are the main "antagonists" of the game, who are zealot paladins "serving" the empire. They are either outright hostile towards you or you can have this shaky alliance between you two.

There two issues i still have with the game however. The merchants are too expensive! Good luck trying to buy new weapons and armor. You better of scavenging scraps and upgrade your old gear. Just buying Adra crystals is enough to bankrupt you.

The second one is Yatzy. i dont know what fat Californian 40 something year old cat lady wrote her but god, every line has something with sex going on. And she's married so you know she wont put out even if you "flirt" with her but why you would wanna fuck a furry to begin with? Even Eder from the pillars series loved the furriers (because he found them cute, their fur soft and wanted to pet them) but even he found the idea of fucking one to be absolutely disgusting. Yatzy husband is also a human so you know its peak degeneracy.

Got to many hours into this shit. Got to finish it now.

"EDIT" I forgot to mention the lack of enemy verity sucks. You be killing the same 4 enemies in each map just with different skins.
