My brother's a Yankees fan, so lately my dad has been mocking him by bringing up the Red Sox World Series victory last year.

And a pitching coach for the Angels broke his leg catching for the ceremonial first pitch.
I went to the only game they won when they played in Dodger Stadium last year. Got tickets for when they come back this August. My brother went to a Cubs game last night. They lost to the Dodgers.
Yeah, that's worked out so well for Michael Jordan and the Bobcats. The Cubs were just sold a few years ago to a family that is worth $2.6 billion. I'm happy where they are.... Problem is that this fucking cuntrag Sam Zell forced them into an illegal deal where the Cubs had to assume a shitload of debt so Zell wouldn't have to pay taxes. Also, Chicago politicians, being the sleazy fucks they are, denied the Cubs any government funds to renovate Wrigley even though they dropped hundreds of millions to buld US Cellular. The Mayor blocked any chance of it happening because he was buthurt the owner's crazy old Dad's PAC campaigned against Obama. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/...d-the-syncing-of-baseball-and-business-plans/ explains it better than me.The only way the Cubs can win a world series is if a Magic Johnson type of entrepeneur buys the team and is willing to wait a few years until his investment starts producing profits (Same goes for the Astros)
I am a diehard Cubs fan. A World Series title to them is like a the fulfillment of the love quest to Chris.

It's not like they haven't tried, they signed the other Cuban guy who defected around the same time as Puig and he looks just as good, except he keeps getting injured. They made a comparable bid for Tanaka, but he wanted to go to New York. Poached Theo from the Sawx, and agreed to a deal with Anibal Sanchez only to find out his agent was just using them to squeeze Detroit for more money. They took one of the smallest front offices in baseball and modernized it and turned a farm system that failed to develop an everyday position player other than Castro in nearly a decade. Many scouting services have them in the top five featuring Javy Baez who started out hurt but hit 4Rs last week. Kris Bryant leads the AA in EVERYTHING.
That's the thing, Magic at least cared about where is money was going and actually wanted to, you know, build a team. The only reason the Dodgers haven't won a World Series (Apart from some players egoes clashing, I'm looking at you Hanley) Is that they're in the same division with the Giants.
Royals fans have it much much worse. I have fond memories of 1998, 2003, and 2007-8. The Royals haven't even contended for a playoff spot in over 20 years. The Cubs are what the Royals would be if Kansas City was a big market. And if the local government were run by mobster types.
The owners do care about building a team, they're just hamstrung by shitty finances beyond their control. Before the team was sold, the Tribune ordered Jim Hendry to spend at an unsustainable rate in order to drive up the value of the franchise. Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, Milton Bradley, Carlos Silva, Kosuke Fukudome, and Marlon Byrd were grossly overpaid. Their highest paid player on their payroll this year (Soriano) doesn't even play for them anymore. Thankfully, most of this money is coming off the books this off season.
And they are building a team. If you build a house with no foundation, it's going to collapse. That was the Tribune's strategy and why they're a huge mess today. Let me say it again: they have have been deplorable at developing position players. Other than Starlin Castro, I think their last homegrown all-star position player that they signed and came up through the minors was Mark fuckin' Grace who retired like 10 years ago. They poached Theo from the Red Sox in 2011 when they had been consistently ranked in the bottom half for organizational prospect rankings and in three years due to smart drafting, aggressive international spending, and pillaging the Rangers in the Matt Garza trade, they're in the top five of every major scouting service this year.
Another huge difference between the Dodgers and the Cubs is that the Dodgers signed that huge TV package and the Cubs have a couple years until their old contract expires before they cash in on the boom.

PS: As a side note I'm going to KC for work next month and need to find a place to schedule a dinner. Who makes the best ribs: Fiollora Jack's, Arthur Bryant's, or Oklahoma Joe's?
Bless you.
