Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Treyarch did their own BR mode with Blackout but you had to buy Black Ops 4 to access it. AND they stopped updating Black Ops 4 with Operation: Dark Divide.

Infinity Ward, as of now, has Warzone as a separate free download from Modern Warfare and they are still updating both games for free. Time will time. I hope they don't segment their releases like that anymore so quickly.

They only abandoned blackout because it was unpopular, Warzone on the other hand seems to be doing really well. I hope they just use Warzone and update it over time, maybe with each call of duty add new content, I doubt activision would let that happen though. Better for profit to reset everyones progress so they have to purchase skins and grind again on a new game.

Blackout had some love put into it, especially with the map design and the huge roster, but unfortunately, it got stale really fast because it didn't do anything to make it stand out and wasn't that interesting.

Warzone, on top of being free has that distinct call of duty feel, progresses the story, and had plenty of time to build up hype.

Yeah I enjoy Warzone way more than I did Blackout, I just wish they would remove the stupid cheese like stopping power, dead silence, and ghost perk. But it is COD, they have to let casuals have free kills or they might not want to play it.

Hopefully they'll just use Warzone as the main BR mode and keep it separate from the game's installation.

Fucking Modern Warfare takes up nearly 200 GB of space, and I really hope Black Ops doesn't come close to that.

I don't think they'll have Bezmenov as Perseus since he's still alive and can sue for defamation and libel. They probably had to get his permission to use his likeness and I doubt a disciplined ex-KGB agent would be lazy enough to not read the script.
I thought Bezmenov died in 1993?

Edit: ninja'd

Reveal trailer:
Judging by the trailer, it looks like the story will at least take place in Vietnam, USA, and East Germany. Also since it is set in 1981, there will probably be a level in Afghanistan since the Soviet-Afghan War was in its first few years.

Plot seems to be focused on hunting a Soviet operative named Perseus. Apparently this was an agent that had been around since the 40s, may have breached security during the Manhattan Project.

Something else I looked up was an inter agency group that Reagan created in 1981 called Active Measures Working Group. Remember what Yuri was talking about in the announcement trailer: active measures that were in preparation for decades.

I think we've got our plot: an old soviet agent is trying to shift the Cold War in the Soviet's favor by leaking nuclear research or even new technology being designed for the "Star Wars" strategic defense program. And our old Black Ops buddies have to team up to take him down. There's going to be a twist, but I can't figure out what it is going to be.

Also, I hope that there is another politicians vs zombies map. I'm guessing it would be Reagan, Carter, Thatcher, and Brezhnev as those are some of the more recognizable political figures of the time.

Breznehvs ability is ti dispense truth bombs which causes the zombie's heads to explode because to their rotting brains its pretty much the same as lovecraftian knowledge

Inb4 Reagan is Perseus and standing in for drumpf
There is a new Cold War now with China. So Activision might be trying to keep the "Russia is evil" talking point keep on going to distract us.

I am optimistic if 20 years from now we get a FPS shooter which has you working with Trump to stop China.

A COD that would suit Donald Trump is modern warfare 2 where the country itself is under attack and Donald Trump orders you to stop the ANTIFA and BLM domestic terrorists. And we basically work as the Feds in Portland hunting down commies.

Since Reagan these days is the favorite of neoliberalism as Obama and all the neocons idolize him now. Not really upbeat working with Reagan.

Evil KGB man
I dunno why, but this image makes me laugh so hard. Like, this guy is James Bond "EVUL RUSKIE" levels of stereotypical KGB agent and I fucking love it.
If he's not obtainable or unlockable for Warzone/MW, I may just cry.

Well it happened. Direct sequel to BO1, campaign developed by Raven, Warzone content transers over, create your own character in campaign, etc.
I wonder if you could bring your custom character to multiplayer. That may open up cosmetic microtransactions, knowing Activision. I hope customization returns in spades for multiplayer with minimal F2P crap.

And that Modern Warfare and Warzone will continue to get updates even after Black Ops: Cold War's launch. They could co-exist, especially with Warzone.

I have to say, I was quite impressed. Treyarch embracing single player again with a badass time period and free DLC is the icing on the cake.

Shame Activision edited their Know Your History trailer because of ONE SECOND of Tiananmen Square footage. So much for knowing history.

Battlefield basically took a big risk in hindsight now or at the best time, included China in the multiplayer and shitty single player campaign.

Looking at how Battlefield V turned out, I don't have much faith in the new Battlefield supposed to be set in modern times to include China.
