Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

MW2022 was all the bad things that appeared at the end of MW2019 dialed up to 11. Cartoon skins, sparkly pink particles, etc. The maps tended to be overbright, but I didn't hate them by and large. A few were too big and maze-like, I remember not liking the raceway map at all. I feel like movement was sped up a bit, but mostly I was so tired of the cartoon shit that I dropped it maybe 2 months in.

Treyarch has never really given a rat's ass about period-correct aesthetics in the Black Ops series.
it have the tranny bullets. so yes its dialed up to 11 with bullshit.

The most baffling thing about the Black ops 6 beta for me is how little it feels like the 90s. Even ignoring how goofy the guns look and modern optics. Characters' fashion and hairstyles don't scream the 90s. Uniforms don't scream the 90s. The maps don't look like the 90s, besides old computers. Maybe older cars. Older call of duty games had better look desert storm era skins.
It's because Call of Duty has become Fortnite.

At this point, they know they're just going to fill it to the brim with wacky skins so they probably don't give that much of a fuck giving the multiplayer any sort of Gulf War authenticity. Why make the characters fit if they're just going to sell a bunch of goofy anime and weed skins anyways? If people complain the maps don't seem like the 90's, they'll point to the VHS rental store and be like "That's TOTALLY 90's, what are you talking about?"

Hell, the fact that we have UAV instead of Spy Plane says a lot to me. I'm sure someone will point out that they launched a UAV at some point in 91 or something to explain it, but still.

We'll be lucky if the campaign even fits with the 90's aesthetic at all tbqh.

Edit: I tried playing with the shotgun today and holy shit it sucks balls. Unless I'm at point blank it feels like it takes 3+ shots to kill anyone even at close range.

You can actually pinpoint the moment that everyone involved with Call of Duty stopped giving a shit about fitting into any kind of aesthetic their game should have.

Some like to claim it was Godzilla vs Kong, but they were at least still having them fight during World War II and narrating it as part of the conflict.

Some say Mercenaries of Fortune, but they were still at least using the characters from Vanguard even if it didn't make sense.

But Last Stand? When they literally brought in the villains of Warzone, Ghosts and Black Ops 2 to fight the Vanguard team in a Volcano?

Nobody gave a shit anymore.

Which one is BO6? Because the top image looks like GWOT-era kit, while the bottom is 1990s kit (except the M16, I think...looks a little too modern).

To be entirely fair, BO1 was full of gear from the 1970s and 80s, despite taking place in the 1960s. IMO, the entire series has been wasted opportunity. They could have made a game actually set in the 60s when nobody was doing that, but hey, "the FAMAS is so cool," so nope, forget it, let's just not even try for an authentic feel.

Bottom looks like BO: Cold War.

Agree though. Top looks like a modern "Operator," while bottom is pretty accurate to the Gulf War, with the exception of it clearly being an M16A4 with an A2 handguard (the carry handle gives it away).
It's kind of weird because outside the gay skins, I remember Cold War having at least plausible Cold War kit. Don't know why they'd decide the 90s is when things went full operator when that look came well after even Iraqi Freedom.

What the fuck is this bullshit UI?!

Why did game developers think the best inspiration for this game was fucking Hulu/Netflix?!

The same reason that they ruined the world's most successful FPS franchise so they could chase Fortnite bucks
Fuck you for reminding me about the Nicki Minaj skin.

I feel like I have schizophrenia looking at this.
funny you mention that.
this is all hearsay, but I remember someone saying they hired the same guy who designed the UI for Hulu around the release of MW2022. Would explain a lot of things if true.
LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT.

I couldn't even get through a Beta without seeing a lame future skin, I can only imagine how bad and how quickly it will get with Black Ops 6.

I hardly remember Advanced Warfare. Kevin Spacey and boost jumping. That's it. I recall it competing with Titanfall at the time because of the futuristic setting. Then, Black Ops III came to mimic Titanfall's parkour movement.

Ghosts stood out to me better than AW ever did.
