Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

Some further spergulation about the plot of this game based on what we've seen.

- Arasaka wants the immortality chip because it was intended for Saburo Arasaka himself. The man is over 150 years old and despite being Japanese and therefore with an above average life expectancy not to mention all the cyberware and stuff keeping him alive, even the best quality gear will break down over time. Despite his age he still takes a personal interest in Arasaka as both a company and as a vehicle for Japan to take over the world, and with his son Yorinobu having defected and turned on him, and his other son Kei being little more than a yes-man, he probably reckons that none of his family can truly be trusted with the grand strategy of things. Ergo, he wants it to upload his mind to an artificial body or series thereof to be truly immortal.
- Adam Smasher, also loyal to Arasaka, is a test run for full body prosthesis which is the other half of Saburo Arasaka's scheme to be the immortal God-Emperor of Arasaka. That his brain is capable of handling 100% cyberware implantation without cyber psychosis (or at least only a manageable level thereof) means it's a candidate to have Saburo Arasaka's mind uploaded into it.
- I suspect Adam Smasher to be a boss fight at some point, possibly as the equivalent of the Imlerith bossfight in W3, that is, about 3/4 of the way through but with some still to go. I'm guessing that he will be destroyed but within minutes a special TraumaTeam service will arrive and stick his brain in cold storage, followed by a holographic gloat from the real big bad about how they can rebuild him and they have the technology.
- Meanwhile, Johnny Silverhand, whose mind was already stored in the immortality chip but now is cohabiting in V's skull, wants it to facilitate his return to lead the people to freedom. Or so he says. In reality he's probably far less trustworthy than he might seem. He's got his own plans and they involve chucking V under the bus.

Its Cyberpunk. Trust no-one, not even yourself isn't a meme.
@jje100010001 Well, that's kinda the question, isn't it? Honestly I think CDPR went way too far with how visibly augmented people are, especially since even in CP2020 stuff that wasn't a replacement tended to be low-visibility by default. Even sub-dermal plating was very difficult to notice and didn't affect your body proportions until you put a full Class III hard plate under there. A hefty chunk of the cyberware in the main book is actually Deus Ex style nanoaugs.

While mild forms of cyber-modification still make sense to me (i.e. replacing part of an arm, dermal implants), I'm still sort of wondering about the nature of extreme cyber-modification:

How much original human is there under the RealSkinn?
Well, in cyberpunk prosthesis and various implants are treated somewhat realistically, meaning that if you want a cool wrist rocket you actually have to replace your entire arm since your body doesnt naturally have free space for a gun. Thats kinda the draw, cyberware isnt just magic, its an actual machine in your body and thats kinda fucked up once you think about it. If you decide to do this you gotta be REALLY dedicated.
That said there is a lot of less invasive cyberware too, we have already seen something like a print on your skin. I think there was something in the lore saying that since 2020 they perfected tech so that your body wouldn't reject it too much so there is a lot more versatility.

Cyberware became kind of a fashion statement since 2020, its no longer just for cyberpunks, it became normalized and quite common. Its more visible because people are showing off.

Oh and by the way i think we passed the magical delay date a few days back.

Speculation

I really hope you're right about Silverhand being the overarching antagonist. He directs you the entire game only to manipulate you at the very end, a la Bioshock.

Plus, has Keanu Reeves ever played a villain? Given how likeable he is in person its hard to imagine. This further illustrates why Silverhands villainistic twist would be so good.

He played a wife-beater in The Gift. It was a bit on-the-nose, I thought, but Keanu did a pretty good job. He also played the villain in Man of Tai Chi, which he directed, but I haven't watched it so I won't offer an opinion. I'd definitely be interested in seeing him play a more sinister role.

Not a whole lot. Plastic surgery addiction already exists, just apply it to implants and bam, cyberpsycho.

Yeah, hopefully CDPR adopted a common house rule for their games that low-level and cosmetic cyberware and bioware has reduced or no humanity costs.

He was in a movie where he played a serial killer. I can't remember the name of it, though, but he was chilling.

I googled that and got an infobox for John Wick, which I guess sort of works. Anyway, the film you're thinking of seems to be The Watcher. Doesn't look like it was well received; Keanu got a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor. Reviews say he wasn't convincing as a subtle, intelligent, capable villain, which is a bit disappointing, since that's exactly what I was hoping for in Silverhand.

That said, it'd be fucking hilarious if he did pull another Donnie Barksdale. Just imagine the salt from the diehard "KeanuWholesome100" fans if V goes off to fight the Animals and Johnny starts calling them niggers.

That could easily be the fault of direction, too. We'll see if he's matured since then.

So, just remembered that Silverhand was a vet of the absolute clusterfuck of close quarters jungle war that was the Central American Conflict. We may yet get first person PoV murder by pencil if he decides to take over your body.

All I need besides that for stealth ops is the Gep Gun Militech Urban Missile Launcher for silent takedowns.

Don't be silly, pencils don't exist in the jungle.
You're more likely to instead get murdered with a nearby bag of narcotics. Not overdosing you on them, but just physically wrecking your shit with a fistful of crack rocks or something.

I didn't say it would be in the jungle. Shit goes down at a fancy bar in Night City, and next thing V knows, there's three guys dead of puncture wounds and there's a blood-soaked pencil in his hand.

EDIT: Considering how the Nomads roll, I want my goddamn fastback.

I just saw a headline the other day saying someone forged his name for The Watcher, it would make sense that he resented the role.
