Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

I like a lot of Cyberpunk and its story but the biochip was an awful plot point that did not mesh with the gameplay at all. You're told you will die slowly and painfully and it will happen "soon" (I'm pretty sure Vic gives you three weeks), but this doesn't align with the open world gameplay design and doesn't even attempt to.
I hate it so much when open world sandbox games pull this kind of "Clock is ticking" narrative shit.

The world ends tomorrow but remember to take a few weeks helping random NPCs get rid of rats so you can get better gear to survive the final boss fight this evening, oh look, a dungeon, better check it out, perhaps there is going to be a bloody scroll filled with lore about those little critters jumping around in the tall grass which you also should totally catch one and have it be your companion for the whole 5 minutes before the cataclysm consumes everything and we all die because you fucked about for HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF CONTENT instead of powering through the 2h main storyline.

And as a final insult there isn't even really a way to play post main story line, sure, you could do that but as far as the world is concerned you groundhog day back to before a "Point of no return".

Why? Why ever pull this kind of shit in this kind of game? Have it be a self contained, linear, narrative heavy DLC but an open world needs a completely different way to tell a story.

It's like every department of CDPR was working on a different game until time came to put it all together and we got this weird broken cobbled together mess of Far Cry, Deus Ex, GTA, TES, Dying Light open world action/gameplay but with a narrative designed for the linear type of a game like Bioshock.

Watching Muta's vid on the latest Cyberjank patch, I have to know, which fucktard fired the entire QA team?

I got my refund - and I'm still amazed that Soyny of all fucking companies actually gave full refunds (I know, laugh at the filthy console peasant) - but it's just amazing to watch CDPR just speedrun being Bethesda
actually they dont and thats the problem. cdpt in their hubris tough that sony would be ok in refunding the game without asking them so sony told them to fuck off at like 2 am polish time and delisted the entire fucking thing.

The story was trash.

And this is from someone who enjoys the Deathlands book series.
I think everything up until the after the heist and a lot of the side quests are pretty solidly written while everything revolving around Johnny Silverhand is fanfic tier trash. It's pretty obvious whatever story they had written was trashed completely around 2018/2019 when wholesome big chungus Reeves came aboard and the relic storyline was hastily thrown together to justify his involvement. CDPR is retarded though and probably won't learn from this. Witcher 4 will probably have Queen Latifa as Ciri's wisecracking companion who's a peerless swordswoman and powerful mage.

Bonus unpopular opinion despite being created by edgy degenerates I had a lot more fun playing through Fallout the Frontier than I did through Cyberpunk 2077. It crashed less too.

Well, you could've add a countdown based on played time. Like on MGS3 if you play the game for way too long The End dies. Or like in base concept of STALKER which was supposed to have few NPCs competeing with you getting into reactor core making their wish before you, and so ending the game before you.
This, however, are gameplay options. During the game you take bad pills several times what according to Vic accelerates the changes in your brain.

I caved and got the PS4 version for less then 25 euros.
After the bullshit of getting a patch almost as big as the game itself i can't say it's that bad yet. It's a bit overwelming and the bugs up untill now where minimal.
That said, i'm still not in the open world portion.

Silverhand was walking cringe and added nothing to the story. It's almost like Jackie was written out of the story in favor of Keanu Reeves hype.

Definitely. The worst thing is, the relic storyline could be decent in a different game than they promised and if it wasn't so hastily thrown together. I like the general idea of Johnny Silverhand and his crusade against Corporations, but there's a disconnect when Johnny is a complete asshole to you no matter how you operate not to mention Reeves acting is just stiff as all hell.

There's a speech where he explains to you how he saw the Corporations ruin farms and turn the city into complete shit and how their attempts to literally steal the souls of people is an abomination. On paper it should be a pivotal moment in the story and for Silverhand, but Reeves delivers it in such a stilted way it just ruins everything about it.

And then right afterwards, even if you agree with him, it's back to him calling you a pussy ass bitch and just complaining about all the little shit and constantly ragging on literally everyone he meets. His motivation is all over the fucking place.

Turns out Keanu wasn't so breathtaking after all

For me his character arc is quite touching.
I can definitely agree that he is hastily written character thrown to the plot but from retrospective I can say that I understand what writers were trying to achieve here and it is somewhat comprehensible. Mess, but still comprehensible.
If we follow all missions for Johnny the picture of our nemesis is really disturbing. No one really remembers him and if anyone have any idea who he was he is either portrayed as a terrorist or leader of long forgotten band that didn't had any memorable song. Most of his friends died during nuke attack on Arasaka Tower. The one left either joined Arasaka or got old with full of regrets for not dying that day with rest of comrades.
He was killed and his body was ditched somewhere in scrapyard without any sign nor clues to find it. No one even tried to find his body.
If we arrange a date for him with Rogue they have nothing to say to each other. It has been 50 years and she had to move on and choose "steady calm life". Johnny is the same 30-year old scumbag with romantic dream of taking down Arasaka for killing one of his dearest friend/love.
His goal for taking down Arasaka was futile because of his action it became even stronger. The means he took for his battle against corporations left many people dead for literally nothing.

He became a romantic symbol of resistance against corporations but inadequate, incompatible, unfitting for modern day of 2077. He had a life and screwed it up for his "ideals" which lead him to lay in virtual prison for 50 years until some dumb newcomer will unknowingly steal biochip and let him be free.
The mocked Eurodyne became successful musician with great contract with one of the biggest company in music industry. He have a fame, money and little dream like playing for the last time with crew from "Samurai". His goals are reachable and he only need a little push towards them. Unlike our Johnny chasing white rabbit with corp logo on its head.

When we hit the last choice in the game between letting Johnny live or killing him, reasons for keeping V alive outweighs the arguments for Johnny. Especially if we have had a romantic relationship with anyone in the game. V still have a reason to live unlike Johnny who just have a beef over long dead friend with Arasaka. We are even told in one part of the game that Alt isn't the same Johnny's Alt he knew back in the day but that doesn't stop him from believing that she's still the same.
This is truly tragic fate of Johnny Silverhand hoping that 50 years after his long slumber anything had changed.

I do agree that we never see Johnny devastated by anything. He never raises a reason of why his life would be more meaningful than V's. After one attempt of killing V he never change his mind of willing to help with any means necessary to cure V. He is just a Chekhov gun reminding us that our time is running out. It could've been better written but as is it was hastily published it kinda defends itself from storytelling perspective.

It makes me almost wish Cyberpunk had an invisible morality system that would affect how Silverhand would talk to you. Kinda like Eleanor Lamb in Bioshock 2.

Do any of you think that they'll make good on their promises via patches? No man's Sky pulled some miraculous shit and I'm personally hoping so will CD.
No Man's Sky was a solid game that could be built off from relatively easily and fixed into a pretty decent game.

The foundations that make up Cyberpunk are so poor they are outmatched by games 20 years old. There is no way CDPR is ever going to be able to fix the physiques of this game or make interacting with the environment better. They would need to completely overhaul the game to do that and they just can't.

The best CDPR can do is fix the bugs in the game and add content and no matter how much content they add it will never be the game it was promised to be. It'll be, at best, a mediocre Farcry game with a decent story and maybe some fun DLC content—if the game even lives long enough to see DLC content developed that is.

NMS had some major problems upon release, but they had quite a few going against them in hindsight over CP2077. They had a vastly smaller team working on the game (wasn't it like 18 people by the release?), had the lead designer try to sell the game when he clearly did not like public speaking, said dev clearly couldn't just say no to things when pushed, and the flood that nearly fucked their entire work progress. Since they are so small, they did the smart thing, laid low from any form of media and kept repairing their mistakes.

CDPR has garnered a large dev team from The Witcher's success despite having shit management, announced their game around 8 years ago but didn't bother start working on it seemingly at all until 4 years ago, did not have marketing & the dev team talking with each other to manage their hype train, and had source material to reference for gameplay quirks but only scratched the surface for simplicity. Since they're already talking about making a new Witcher, they are clearly trying to walk away from this royal fuck up.
