Dead Space Thread

Unless they completely ace the remake I am not touching it with a ten foot pole, especially since EA shut down Visceral only 5 years ago. If I were some of the people who worked at Visceral I would be pissed.

I think some of the team at Visceral moved over to Motive for this.

Its a remake, Isaac is back. I'm somewhat interested.

Not sure how they would improve on the narrative beats of the first game. Its pretty tight, progressing through the various decks of the ship.

The pacing was really solid. I guess they might add a larger set piece? I don't know where that would fit in.

The original was like 12 hours, right?

Welp, the rumors were true

My favorite part is reading the comments of coonsumers thanking EA for this. Yeah, thank you EA. Thank you for murdering this franchise, killing the dev team and pretending this series didnt exist anymore until you suddenly need a fucking nostalgic cash cow to milk. Thank you, EA, indeed.

Everyone hates EA until they start milking their favorite dead franchise for a few extra coonsumer bucks.

I just love gamer amnesia ™️ . They get what they fucking deserve
I wonder if the PC version will be as broken as the original was (and still is).

Surprisingly easy to fix tho, its no fixing audio on Quake 1 because ID is too cheap to add the Rezner music on their own.

I guess they're pulling a Hangar 13 and they're rewriting Dead Space for a new audience.

"A new audience"

it's gonna be complete dogshit

Something tells me that I should finally get 1&2 because they're most likely not going to be available for much longer

The physics were tied to v-sync, right? I remember getting freaked out by some body bags randomly shaking.

it was already in the original IGN article @Vault Boy posted.
also missed it was done by ea motive
I mean, I already knew better because this is EA we're banging on about here, but it's nice to have something to point it out for posterity's sake, and for "I fucking told you" Alex Jones points.
I expect a "remake true to the classic" on the level of thi4f...
I only played Deadly Shadows and even I could tell something was wrong with that tiff taffin' game...

After reading through some more shit, especially them "reaching out to community members" the game is gonna be mediocre at best, a complete dump on the grave of both Visceral and Dead Space at worst. Asking community members what they want from a game never fucking works because either the devs don't interpret things correctly, or the community has absolutely no consensus on what they want. Also this gave me a laugh.

Something like that. Often the ragdolls would never stop moving/rotating in circles on the ground even after you killed them. Or they'd freak out and shake all over the place

Why did they do the "slow fade in/fade out zoom in on iconic/nostalgic thing" twice in the same trailer?

I think some of the team at Visceral moved over to Motive for this.
motive is in canada, visceral was in california (one of the reasons they shuttered it because it became to expensive to run).
plus I think they already lost a good chunk of people before the closure, I assume the few that moved probably had nothing to do with dead space.

It also missed a fuck ton of features and the support team for it were mostly on FIFA and Madden duty. So many devs had to spend a lot of the dev time improving the engine rather than making the games. So not even about training just an engine really made to be good at first-person games and not much else and needed a fuck ton of work to get it to be versatile. I mean maybe the engine is in a working state now but the truth is EA should do what Square Enix did and move most games to Unreal to finally get games out without half the dev time being spend on getting the engine to work.
mass effect ran on unreal. it was a fucking shitshow.
these are the same devs who excused the shit state of anthem at launch with "Many of the features those developers had taken for granted in previous engines, like a save-load system and a third-person camera, simply did not exist in Frostbite" - because a) this is apparently a very complex task that b) wasn't already done in bf3. also "From the beginning, Anthem’s senior leadership had made the decision to start from scratch for a large part of the game’s technology rather than using all of the systems the company had built for Inquisition and Andromeda."

here's more on how retarded bioware is, even when kotaku tried to put the blame on anyone else: https://kotaku.com/how-biowares-anthem-went-wrong-1833731964

while you're at it might as well blame hero engine for TOR...

it's frostbite a clusterfuck? probably. are bioware fucking hacks? definitely.

It could work.... but I think the best we can likely hope for is a decent action game in the vein of RE4. Which is basically what the original was at the time it was released, just dont expect it to keep being scary or atmospheric. In all honesty, I think they will tone down some of the more legit fucked up elements of the original, especially if they are trying to appeal more to the public, but who knows. Maybe they will go in opposite direction and go for something REALLY fucked up. One can hope.

Im willing to give it a fair shake, but ill keep my expectations low. I do feel that baseing if off the style of the RE2 remake is the correct decision, but they could be full of shit on that front.

The pozzed Andromeda devs complained about Frostbite, saying it didn't come with a pre-built inventory so it was obivously not suitable for an RPG! (did they hire people from the ME modding scene or something?)

Meanwhile, the team that churn out american football games on an annual basis doesn't seem to have a problem but those guys probably have natural hair colors. What I'm saying is that Bioware is a bunch of fags these days and if they have a hard time with anything it's likely because they're incompetent.

I remember how Dead Space rarely held your hand, especially on harder difficulties, if you couldnt handle it, tough luck. People nowadays almost can never do proper horror even if their lives depend on it, so this will be "adapted" into Dead Space "light", where it looks pretty and maybe atmospheric but that is it. The frostbite engine keeps constantly being misused and I doubt Dead Space wont be another shit show brought by them wanting to force it onto another brand that doesnt fit (Mass Effect Andromeda much?)
