The bagged cheese aisle isn't the actual cheese section you sperg, almost every supermarket has a section with actual block and wedge cheese. Yes, even Walmart outside of the hood.
I guess if you were a broke-ass Floridian shopping at Price Rite all you'd find is bagged cheese.
This might be one of the things he's confused about. My kroger has the "prepackaged deli" aisle with a small variety of cheese for sandwiches, the shredded stuff in the dairy aisle, and the serious cheese gets its own section.
Parmesan (blocks, not powder), several goats, gouda, several blues, european imports, etc.
Jersh will tell you that this means I either live in Manhattan or don't exist.
The other thing he might be confused about is what poors who don't care about food quality end up eating in spite of better alternatives. You don't HAVE to buy wonderbread and kraft singles, but millions of people can't think of a reason not to. They see no purpose in spending a little extra for something else. Most people don't really think about most subjects, and food is no exception.

Watch null sperg about the Great Lakes like it's still 1969
Speaking of fish, I should head to the fish market this week. Get some smoked salmon, maybe some fresh lake trout too. I could always go fish myself, I used to fish with the old man as a kid but haven't been into it in years. Could always see if my fisherman buddy has any in his freezer too, but I dislike frozen filets. The albumin gets all weird when you do anything but deep fry it and its super unappetizing.

We used to have some nice bakeries and butcher shops and fish shops here. But the neighborhood started turning into a ghetto in the mid 90s and now it's all shuttered store fronts with the odd junk shop, nail salon or check cashing place. I can get some nice stuff near me if I look around hard enough. There's plenty of immigrant shops. They aren't hipster hives because hipsters haven't tried to infest us yet. But if I go to a nicer area I can get fresh baked things and cheese someone made themselves. But pretentious hipsters. I have a family member who is one of those and that's bad enough.
The problem here is the wealthy hipsters are moving in so trendy "organic" shops are popping up with very overpriced, novelty goods like its a Wholefoods.

Get some smoked salmon
That's literally buying PROCESSED food. smh. fr fr.

Going to use this thread as an opportunity to shill Adam Raguseas bread recipe. Its so simple (Flour, salt, yeast, water), if you have a dutch oven you have zero excuses. I like to put some dill into it and eat with Kerrygold butter.

Stop buying shitty store bread and make your own!
Making bread at home is tedious even on the most simple recipe. You can buy non-shelf stable bread of reasonable quality for a dollar.

I live in America's upper left corner and only turbofaggots actually fly the Doug flag. If Cascadia were ever a country it'd make the UK look competent by comparison.
As much as I would want to say otherwise. This is hilariously true. I only see the cascadian flag flied by turbofaggots on the coast. Idaho needs to conquer all land east of the Cascades. And remove californian invaders from North Idaho e.g Sandpoint, Cda & Moscow

Wake up honey, it’s time for your monthly “Null is upset about the USDA” post (rightfully)

But besides that, what’s the argument here? That Americans don’t have access to real meat/cheese/bread in general? Or only Americans living in small towns? Or that it isn’t a large variety? And why is “meat” only domesticated cattle and shopping at a store the only type of access that seems to have been considered? Also why do you assume that homesteaders and hobby farmers are following the law lol

Anyways to answer your question the best quality meat in my area off the top of my head is fresh slaughtered free range chicken or rabbit from a neighbor. I don’t eat much beef but I can get both of these things:
You can get locally slaughtered meat you know for sure came from a specific farm. You can get bread baked that fucking day in more than 2 styles.
As well as fresh cow and goat cheese, yogurt, butter, etc. I live in a mid-size city and all of these options are around a half hour to an hour away (or deliverable), but it becomes more common the further from the city you go.

Are white eggs considered weird in the U.S.? They're just eggs. I always thought white was the "default" egg color. When I was growing up, we had white hens and they laid white eggs. They certainly weren't genetically modified or anything.
Not sure if this is just an American thing, but there's an odd thing with eggs where white ones are sold as normal and brown ones are sold as organic. That doesn't make sense at all, considering the color of egg you get is just whatever your chicken happens to lay. Other colors also exist, laid by Easter Eggers, but you never see them at grocery stores.

I really need to make friends with someone who has backyard chickens so I can get a nice flow of fresh eggs.

I'd be very careful buying anything marketed as oysters in the Front Range area, because they're probably not shellfish.
I go to this spot for happy hour oysters almost every time I'm in Denver and have never had a bad time. Big cities are different because the throughput is higher for restaurants there, they can afford to spend more on expensive stuff because they'll waste very little.

(It's a joke b/c it's a local tradition to market bull testicles as "Rocky Mountain Oysters" in Colorado)

i have lived in a very rural area all my life and i can say that if you live anywhere near a legit amish settlement or an area with enough farms you can still get fresh meat cheese and bread.

the amish will set up shops all year to sell stuff like butter and cheese sometimes they sell pies as well as fresh loaves of bread. now as far as meat is concerned that depends. i cant really say as far as beef is concerned but i have seen hunters sell turkeys and deer they get during hunting season all the time.

all that being said as far as the people who dont live in the middle of nowhere the grocery store chain wegmans sells local things all year round and has an in store bakery that bakes multiple types of fresh breads every day.

they also have a very wide selection of cheeses both out of state and local. they are leagues better than walmart and the meat is fresher as well. i am unaware if the meat is local but i know for a fact the fish is usually unless its a non native fish.

You're worthless if you can't make your own bread and cheese. Literally not that hard.
bread making especially is easier than most people may realize. they even have machines now that do everything for you. all you gotta do is dump the ingredients in and close the lid and in an hour or two you get a big loaf of whatever bread you desire for cheaper than you could get the same type of loaf at the store.

what’s the argument here?
The argument is that the US is "pozzed" and the only grocery stores are Walmart and Whole Foods, of which Walmart is the majority of food purchases. Walmart only sells "processed" foods which isn't defined but is bad. No I won't go into detail and, no, I won't respond to criticisms of the EU's food safety rules. Everything in the US is artificial because its made in large factories whereas in Europe(pbuh) everything is small batch, farm-to-table, from de erf all by a babushka with her cold love.
It's an extension of the america hate cope and sneed you see on Reddit where ignorant Euporeans sneed about America and have massive confirmation biases where they'll believe any criticism.
