I'm too tired of the clownpocalypse to enjoy complaining about it but man kitfox adding chirpy superfluous faggot addendums to Tarn's update messages really rubs me the wrong way. It's like smearing your shit on an artwork so you can claim you contributed.
I have a super long list of improvements it needs too (batch construction material selection, mass burrow assignment, notification configuration/backlog browsing, search/sort/summaries on appointment/interrogation/petition screens, creature/object name hyperlinking, fucking bedroom blueprints) but if you want Dwarf Fortress to be held back until it's "finished" for the next release I hope you have a good plan to get your frozen brain offworld before the sun swallows the earth.
Anyway I dunno if you guys wanna actually talk about the fucking game, but for my trade entrance I currently have a long retractable bridge over an indoors magma moat. This can be enclosed so that I can also block it while flooding the surface of the bridge with magma just for fun. This all drains into an external lava moat outside the volcano which surrounds a covered gatehouse overhanging the moat with an outermost drawbridge over it, to which I'm now adding fortifications so we can shoot out over that drawbridge too.
What I'm currently wondering is if it would be overkill to let the guys in the gatehouse also shower lava from above onto the drawbridge... it's right there after all. I'm not sure how magma mist works though, do I have to worry about it billowing up and through the fortification windows or something?
Or y'know they were just deprioritised for the first release which is a standard practice for 90% of projects. I'm sure someone opened the game and played it at some point during development. It's more so that the things that are missing should be really, really obvious and it doesn't appear stuff has been playtested along with legitimate concerns about how the money is going to change the developers. (Anyone that says money won't change them is a liar, it is just how things are)
-Being unable to make upward staircases that aren't set into the wall when the above area isn't dug out yet.
-Lots of graphical issues at 2k resolution, and very bad graphical frames leaving the game difficult to play as it misses your inputs over and over.
-Sprites are filtered strangely instead of nearest-neighbor like every other pixel game in existence.
-Missing civilian alerts?
-Unable to mass-select materials like in classic, instead having to click hundreds of times.
The majority of these things would be caught if anyone just opened the game and tried to play for an hour or so.
