Fallout series

Man sneaking in this game isn't very thrilling. No matter what I do it's like they never realize I'm there. I can blow one guy's head off with a sniper rifle, and the guy who's like 3 feet away doesn't seem to notice. The whole appeal of sneaking in the old games was that feeling that you could be spotted at any second, but here it seems like as long as I'm crouched I can pass by anybody in broad daylight.
I was standing behind an open door, the indicator said [caution], a raider was standing about a foot away from me and past the door, looking right at me. I swing a baseball bat at him. [SNEAK ATTACK 2x DAMAGE] could you get sneak attacks on cautioned enemies before?

I think as long as it doesn't say danger you could always sneak attack. But to me it seems like it's way harder for enemies to notice you. Like unless I'mright in front of somebody it seems like I never get noticed. Maybe it's because of my stats or something, I don't know.

Basically, if the enemy is not sure about the general location of where you are, they're still able to be sneak attacked - it seems like enemies are either searching for your general location or trying to pinpoint if you're still in an area while they're in a caution state.

Are you sure the raider you attacked was the one actually trying to find you or was that another? You can get sneak attack criticals on enemies that aren't aware of your presence, even if other enemies are.

I'm really enjoying the game but overall I have mixed feelings about it. Seems to me like every step forward (better combat, legendary items, settlements, character modeler, better written companions) there is two backwards (dialogue system, filler clean up quests, settlements being clunky as fuck, horrible UI, lack of good ratio of quests no involving/being only about shooting people).

I mean, there is good stuff here but I also I start to become less tolerant of the Bethesda jank. Jeff Gerstmann is right that even when you enjoy the game you cannot trust the game to not blow itself out in bugs and save corruptions.

In any case, when I thoght too be too bored of all this... I FOUND A ENCLAVE ARMOR... And I'm again rolling in the wastelands.

(The factions stuff is more a Obsidian introduced feature, so I didn't put in the list of "new good stuff in this game" but I'm surprised , in a good way, that is in the game).

Are we playing the same game? If I kill one person, it seems like the whole complex suddenly knows where I am and starts running after me. (And yes, this is in sneak mode, from at least like, 100-200 yards away)

Really? I've found that as long as I get to the dark or move to slightly different place, the enemies lose track of me and I can keep on stabbing them in the back. But like I said I focused mostly on perception and agility, so that might've given me some kinda boost in sneaking or something.

I can confirm sneaking is pretty much broken. I had one firefight at the Dunwich quarry where I ended up aggroing just about every raider there. I simply crouched down behind one of the raised buildings, and even though I had 7+ raiders (including one with Power Armor) shooting in my direction as they stood directly in front of the building, I was getting sneak attack after sneak attack, shooting directly at them. None of them bothered to come around the building or flank me. They just stood in a nice group while I killed them one by one. If I stopped shooting they would stand around and then lose track of me and wander off.

My only experience with sneaking on this character was hiding in a toilet stall while they were looking for me and killing them one by one as they opened the door. Was never discovered.
Pretty par for the course for BethSoft.

All I know is there are times where I have literally managed to make a B line towards the other end of an enemy filled building and come back without being noticed as long as I crouched. I mean I guess it is the skyrim engine and sneaking was kinda weird like that there too. My theory is having sneak tied in with perks and attributes instead of an actual counter probably makes it a little buggy.

I think it kinda depends on a bit of rngesus too - sometimes I've found I've had no trouble stealthing, other times, it was like hell.

I will say, one of the most tense parts is early game, just 'cause you have no suppressors at all. I actually quite enjoyed stealthing, honestly.

Though I'm eager to try out the mod that makes survival difficulty deal 2x damage to both players and npcs. Make things actually nice and deadly for all parties.

Read that whole conversation. The fine people at Bethesda apparently don't know the difference between realism and believability.

I'm 11 hours in to Fallout 4 and I've really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The gunplay is pretty fun and I love how mobile you feel (I'm kind of super autistic about games that had fluid player motion, it's a thing for me). I love my magic dog that can give me new items out of thin air and is apparently a master lockpicker.

The male player character has a pretty bad voice though. It plays into Bethesda beating you over the head about Shaun and why you should feel sad when I honestly don't care.
