Honestly, I wouldn't care but NCR fags (and to a lesser extent House fags) always seem to argue that "they're the only ones who can save the wasteland" which just makes me roll my eyes because it's clear as fuck no matter who you choose shit is fucked anyways. Same shit with Skyrim and Stormcloak vs Imperial tbqh.
I'd rather people just pick out of roleplay or simply cause they like them, and not try to make a justification and be "correct". That's always how I know I'm dealing with a grade A faggot.
The thing is, you have to look at with what you're left with. Like I did with the Skyrim and the Stormcloak vs. Imperial shit. I went with the Imps because I killed their Emperor in secret, and I'm the Dragonborn. I can easily pass myself off as a Septim bastard, especially since my character is a Dragonborn and being a Septim bastard is the most likely explanation for it. That, and my Dragonborn is an Imperial Legate, so they're pretty high up in the Imp food chain already. Combine that with me pretending to be a Septim bastard with my Dragonborn powers, and that Ruby Throne is as good as mine. Then I'll have a larger country with which to pound the Thalmor to dust with.
Contrast that with the Stormcloaks. Ulfric is a shit leader, but he does bring back trial by combat as a way to decide who rules, so I can just as easily challenge him to a 1v1 and kill him with the Thu'um, making me king of Skyrim. But then I'm stuck being king of a northern wasteland while the Imperials and Thalmor are both still stronger than me. What's to stop them from ganging up on my Skyrim before going back to killing each other?
In the same vein, House and the Legion are both better choices than the NCR. If I pick the NCR, I can help them win the Mojave and even work my way up to being their president, using my fame and all the NCR folks I've helped as my way in, but I'll get stuck having to work with the broken bureaucracy that favors the rich and the corrupt. It's as Caesar said about Aaron Kimball, he gained power through election, which forces him to always serve those under him instead of moving the NCR forward. A Courier as the President of the NCR will just inherit the problems the previous administration had, and the weakness and red tape will just further debilitate any growth the NCR might have from conquering the Mojave.
Meanwhile, if I work with the Legion, Caesar literally puts the Courier's face on the money, a sign in old Rome that they're next in line, not Lanius. So when Caesar finally kicks the bucket, the Courier, be they man or woman, is next in line for the throne, and they can practically dictate reforms from the top. They can slowly reform the Legion and remove its more barbaric aspects while doing what Caesar wanted, taking the best of the NCR and the Legion and creating a new synthesis between the two systems; sure, it'd take years of work, but with absolute power and an army behind the Courier's back, I'm sure that a better society can be built.
Same with Mr. House; I can let him keep on ruling New Vegas and he'd keep things stable, or I can Yes Man the fucker down the road anyways, if I hadn't done so already, and if I did, I can also dictate reforms from the top, except I'd have securitrons with me and I wouldn't need to slowly reform the system the way I would have to of I were in charge of the Legion. The only way the Yes Man ending is bad is if the Courier is a fucking retard; otherwise, it'd probably be the most prosperous ending for the Mojave and the NCR.
It's why I hated how so many gave me shit for choosing Institute the one time I finished Fallout 4 because they're "bad". No fucking shit I'm choosing Institute, it's my fucking son. Why the fuck would I fight for a bunch of toaster sympathizers or a bunch of authoritarians in power armor I have no affiliation with?
Institute's the best choice for Fallout 4 in the long run. You make sure your son dies loving you and seeing you as a hero, you have control over a place that can create an army of battle droids that you can conquer the wasteland with, and those fucking power armor hoarders are six feet under. Eventually, your Institute Synth army can restore peace and justice to the Commonwealth, and you can bring order to the wastes without having to answer to some ponce in some airship who thinks he's the post-apocalyptic version of King Arthur.
I really can't understate how much I hate the Brotherhood. When I first booted up FNV, I wanted to link up with them and learn how to use power armor, but both of my interactions with Brotherhood Elders ended up with them slapping bomb collars on my character and telling her what to do. From a roleplaying standpoint, my Courier, who doesn't take shit from people, would've massacred them without a second thought for that. Especially when every other leader she met tells her that the Brotherhood are no good. Eventually, she learned how to use power armor from the Enclave instead, and wiped them out in several of my playthroughs.
And since the Brotherhood in FNV is closer to their original counterparts than the FO3 Brotherhood, yes, my hatred for the FNV Brotherhood extends to the original Brotherhood from Fallout 1 and the one in FO4. Fallout 1's Brotherhood literally sends you on a mission so you can die, and the FO4 Brotherhood is just acting stupid. They're more evil than the OG Brotherhood which would probably preserve the tech to create Synths and integrate the Institute into their ranks rather than blowing them all up.
