And so ends a short saga.

I have the 0.4.5 one, i'm guessing they were at least smart enough to include previous changes in later patch files because the mod page only showed the latest one.
That they were. As I recall, the changes are mostly bugfixes, though they did swap out a character's hair from a custom to a vanilla somewhere in the early run.

Seven years of work reduced to cinders in what? A week? Yeah, a lot of content was made by degenerates, but man, having your work (referring to the less degen devs) you spent years creating be torn to shreds in a week is pretty fucking harsh regardless.
If nothing else, it should serve as a lesson on several fronts.
  • Unless it's supposed to be a porn mod, keep your fetishes to yourselves.
  • Do some better vetting, just because someone shares some of your viewpoints or political opinions doesn't mean they're good people, nor does it mean they can't be into some disgusting shit.
  • Don't leave such obvious paper trails that could expose more of your private life.
  • Don't act like holier than thou assholes to people wanting to join an evil faction like the Enclave (especially when you've gone out of your way to "rehabilitate" one like Caesar's Legion). Instead, just explain that the project's too far into development to have an Enclave questline.
  • Unless it's implicitly tied into Wild Wasteland, don't include a bunch of stupid shit that clashes with the setting and tone (like the lizard junkies and the NCR helicarrier). I get that being a mod already nullifies your efforts to leave your mark on the canon, but you have to respect the setting nonetheless.

On the one hand: Yes, it's terrible that seven years of volunteer work just got eviscerated in the span of a week.

On the other: this could have been avoided entirely if they'd properly vetted and didn't make snarky holier-than-thou comments at people they disagreed with. Any sympathy I may have had evaporates knowing this fall is their own doing.

Here's hoping for a compilation of Devilsfriend's work. If I'm guessing right, he's the primary one behind whenever they actually made good use of their technical breakthroughs, and he uses it to do some decently spoopy stuff in a couple places.

Im downloading it
It looks like Null is going to let me get away with uploading 70mb, so here's the 0.4.5 patch, the last one they did. If somebody can dig up the patch notes and wants one prior to something I forgot about getting removed, I may be able to source that.

If only Novajam was still around making videos again instead of streaming. Frontier would've been perfect for a 'Bad Mod' video, much like the waifu companion mods from Skyrim back in 2015.

Yeah, this needs its own thread. If anyone can scrape together an OP I'll move most of the Frontier posts in here to a new thread.

Funny, I was just drafting a summary. Barebones and needs links and pics, but it's something to start with.

15 Jan: After 7 years in development, Fallout: The Frontier, one of the largest mod projects in Fallout: New Vegas history releases. It is advertised as a massive, DLC-sized addition to New Vegas, featuring technical breakthroughs, an engaging, action-packed story, and compatibility with established Fallout lore. In reality, it is a buggy mess, rife with Reddit-tier writing, rampant canon rape, stock Unity assets, and every fetish known to man, dog and anthropomorphized winged snake. Insanity ensues.

16 Jan-26 Jan: The Frontier team splits their time between bugfixing, circlejerking in their Discord and engaging in the usual post-Trump Leftist talking points about their critics. Mockery and memes pile in and everyone has a good time.

27 Jan: A major member of the Frontier team, ZuTheSkunk, is outed as a pedophile via his FurAffinity account. Everything bursts into flames, the Frontier is removed from NexusMods, Zu is kicked from the team, the FBI is (presumably) drowned in tips, Tyler McVicker tries to help the team save face and fucks everything up, and individuals who provided assets and voice work for the mod start demanding their work be removed. The Frontier team announces that they are going to remove Zu's work, along with all requested content and the option for the player to force someone that may or may not be a child into slavery, upon which they will make the mod available for download again and abandon the project. 7 years to get here, and gone in 12 days.

You know what the most horrifying part of that picture is? That somebody actually took Here and Now.

I don't have enough years left on this planet to laugh as much as I would need to at all this.

Even when they win, these people can't stop losing.

As far as the thread goes, one important piece of the puzzle that I think will be missing here is future content. This debacle should be archived for future generations, but aside from some asshurt I don't think we'll get any further meat from this carcass.

So apparently there's been some previous drama between the Frontier and New California devs, but all I've seen is just some vague mentions of it on the NC discord. Anyone got any details on that?

To be fair, Here and Now is okay if you're using a mod that gives you multiple perks per level and you've already taken most of the good ones available.
It had slightly better utility back in Fallout 3 when you got perks every level. If you were at an odd level and really wanted a new perk ASAP, you can just take H&N to get it and improved skills right away. Of course, since experience points are quite generous in both games, it wouldn't really take too long to level up anyway, so it was still one of the shittiest perks.

The Courier was just supposed to be some nobody who was dragged into all this crap. Trying to act as if he or she was some kind of uberemensch misses the point of the story entirely.
Other people have mentioned Lonesome Road being guilty of this, but I think it's exactly that sort of "epic hero" writing that makes it so entertaining.
Ulysses: "You monster. Destroyer of civilizations. Meet me at the end of the world and face your destiny among the dead."
Courier: "Who are you, and can I have my robot back?"

I always wished they'd put in more dialogue to intentionally provoke Ulysses.

"Yeah I blew up The Divide. And I did it on purpose, too. Come at me faggot!"

They do use those elements but epic hero stuff is interesting that's why it's been done for thousands of years. You can decide for yourself if Ulysses is right carrying the banner of the old world which is pretty epic hero and what it means, or if he's as deluded as anyone else in the wasteland. Plus the Courier is an Odysseus himself, you can play any way you want on your journeys and Odysseus was just as versatile on his journeys.
