To be fair, I always figured that if you leave them both alive at the end Lanius would end up killing Caesar and taking over the legion himself. I mean, just who the fuck could stop him? Especially if he managed to raise the same good points the courier did.
"You dragged us into a war that weakened us! You're an unfit leader and a false god!"
*yeet*
Now that I think about it, something makes me wonder if that wasn't his plan. He knew he couldn't just retreat, but if he killed Caesar and named himself Imperator who could stand against him? Especially because this is the 2nd time Caesar led them to failure, that alone could be his justification to seize power.
That could work, but Lanius has few friends among the Legion troops. I mean, dude's been decimating failed Legion troops while beating commanders to death. The only way he can remain in power is if he keeps winning battles, hence why he takes over in the Legion ending where you fail to save Caesar's life but win the war for his Legion. If Lanius doesn't win, that's all the excuse needed by the other Legionnaires to ax him because they've seen enough of their comrades die to the guy, and like Joshua Graham, he fucked up. The Legion doesn't forgive failure,
And if Caesar isn't there to save him, the Legion troops can gang up on him, using anti-materiel rifles (which Centurions have) and Power Fists (which Praetorians have) against him and kill him. And if Caesar is there, he would certainly sic them at him for failing.
Seriously, is it a requirement for guys who are always like "FASCISTS REEEEE" to be creepy degenerates with weird views about women? Do they make you take a course to be sufficiently creepy for the job???
It's practically a tradition by now, mate. Many leftists are closet perverts who use leftism as a pussy pass to get close to women and entertain their desires. Many of them also shook off the traditional upbringing which usually keeps kids from such naughty thoughts.
Although why they left the Legion in the game puzzles me, when they whined about the Enclave being a fascist power fantasy. I mean, come on, as a Legion Courier, you RP as joining an autocratic, military group that's more like an army than a nation, you serve a supreme leader who has his own Gestapo (the Frumentarii) and his own SS, (the Praetorians) you fight "profligates" who are not only morally degenerate but also mostly weaker than you (most NCR troopers are weak as fuck) and there's very few among them who can challenge you outside of the Rangers and Heavy Troopers. You and the Legion boys CONSISTENTLY run them down and are one step ahead of them, and you deal one blow after another unto them, from blowing up their monorail line to killing their president, all culminating in the Second Battle for Hoover Dam where you lead Legion forces to run down the NCR stuck in the dam, and your boys are killing NCR troops left and right.
If that isn't a fascist power fantasy, I don't know what is.
The "FASCISTS REEE" is just a cover to get close to women because they're social retards. It's less " 'antifascists' taking a creepy course" and more "creepies taking an 'antifascists' course".
Basically. It's like an entire group of socially awkward idiots joining the left to get pussy, attacking conservatives and regurgitating leftist talking points for pussy. At least the people who pay for it have more honor, they're honestly just throwing cash to get women to open their legs.
Anyways, back to the mod.
After seeing how their Legion campaign works, again, I question more the wisdom of not having an Enclave faction to join. The Northern Legion having women in their ranks makes even less sense than a "good" Enclave faction. I mean, come on, some random Legate is changing how the Legion works and adding women into it? It would have worked, if fucking CAESAR was involved. Like say, you bump across a woman barking orders at Legion troops, and you see the Mark of Caesar dangle from her neck, it'd make sense, since it's the founder of the Legion bending his own rules. Maybe if the woman in the Northern Legion was sent by Caesar to keep tabs on the local leaders there, it would make sense. But a Legate changing how the Legion runs in a big way by letting women in? Yeah, no. I'd sooner buy the plausibility of an Enclave force having a change of heart and start working for the general good of the public than that. At least maybe a "good" Enclave force bought into their propaganda about rebuilding America hook, line, and sinker, and they didn't realize it was just fluff used by genocidal maniacs to justify their deeds.
The opening just immediately threw me off. Oh yeah, a small squad of regular NCR soldiers with only a little armour protection and decent guns full on charge an entire base full of laser weapon wielding crazy bastards in Power Armour and don't get utterly slaughtered somehow.
It would have made more sense if say, they had large numbers of NCR troops charging in and getting shredded by the BoS forces while you and some Rangers pick the BoS Paladins off one by one with anti-materiel rifles from beyond their reach. At least A) it would explain why the BoS ain't shooting at you, and B) how they get killed so easily by the NCR.
More on the DLC..........
The whole NCR campaign rubs me the wrong way. So this Blackthorne guy and his men deserted the NCR because they treat his men like shit, then he shoots deserters when they're all way up north? And he wants a "peaceful" overthrow of NCR president Aaron Kimball without causing any violence, despite the fact that it's probably going to involve taking his Northern army and marching on the NCR's doorstep? Right, that makes about as much sense as some random Legate changing how women in the Legion work. And him sacrificing God knows how many Vertibirds and men just to save your ass-really? He couldn't just send in some special agents to sneak in and grab you when the Legion weren't looking? Also, why the hell he'd dedicate that much to save some random mailman/mailwoman is beyond me, as no general in their right mind would risk that many people to save one soldier. I mean, fuck, in the Legion campaign, the guy does send his best to get the drop on you and the Legion leader, so why can't he just do the same and send the same guy to save you if you go the NCR path?
In fact, the whole game treating Courier Six like some kind of important VIP makes no sense. You were important in the real New Vegas because House took interest in you, because you were at the right (or wrong) place and time, or because you rule Vegas after killing House OR you're working close with either the NCR or the Legion. Yet the characters in the DLC treat Courier Six as some kind of Anakin Skywalker who's destined to change the world.
The only reason this would make sense is if the Courier is so important because they've already won the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, after which they'd have far more in their pocket than having a rogue NCR/Brotherhood faction, or faraway Legion outpost, since Courier Six after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam would have A) the full support of the REAL NCR, including support from General Oliver, President Kimball, and the NCR Rangers, meaning that they'd be more than happy to send some Veteran Rangers and power-armored troops to bust your ass out without sacrificing half an army and a crap ton of Vertibirds, B) the full support of Caesar himself which would probably give you carte-blanche to boss around EVERYONE in the Northern Legion and lead them yourself, or C) an entire army of Securitrons that have anti-tank weapons and heavy firepower, meaning that you can probably have a detachment of them steamroll the other factions' bases in the Frontier and take it over just like you did the Mojave.
Before the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the Courier was a nobody that the factions wouldn't risk anything substantial to save. After the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the Courier is in the upper circles of the Legion or the NCR, or has Vegas in their pocket through House or Yes Man, giving them their own power base and Securitron army. So having the Courier be an important person who still needs the support of the local factions to win doesn't make much sense.
