If he does that, I wonder if he'll go all the way due to the money or if it'll just be like the olden days where he would constantly leave the internet "forever".Was it Harry Partridge who proposed that Chris create a revenue stream by posting ad-tie-in videos, or starting a pay-per-view service? Really, his insane and hilarious vidyas are what made his reputation, and got thousands of people to follow his antics; I can see him making a modest income by creating and posting two or three each week and having some sort of commercial link.
He may be slowly realizing that it's him -- not Sonichu or his Lego creations -- that's the marketable commodity under his control. Whether that insight translates into self-exploitation, remains to be seen.
Work =/= labour or graft. You may not view eBay selling as work, but thousands of people who make their living off it would say different. Yeah Chris isn't working hard, he's not good at what he's doing and probably never will be - but he's trying with at least a little more focus and determination than he has in the past. No, no it's not. The closest Chris has ever gotten to working was when he was at Wendy's. Hell, I'd say him pulling a few weeds in the hot, hot sun was closer to actual work that what Chris is doing now. What Chris is doing right now is what he's been doing for the past 20+ years, doodling sonichu on scraps of paper while pissing away his life. Only difference is now some weens are willing to pay for those doodles. Selling crap on ebay isn't work. It's what you do on the weekend when you have a free moment, want to get rid of some junk and think you can make a buck off it.
Going back even a few months, who would have expected Chris to type out the words "let me work for you" - even if he has followed it up with "by drawing"?
This is Chris, working for money.
Yes, he sucks at it. Yes, he limps from screw-up to screw-up. But this is Chris' longest period of paid work in his life. He's making mistakes he should have made in his first job as a teenager, and he's learning from them slower than a normal person would...because Chris is slower than a normal person.
Small victories...
I'm going to preemptively make a request of people here: when the time comes that Chris can't pay his rent or bills or whatever, nobody put together a charity for him, not like what happened after the fire. Some I know agree, some may think I'm sounding too unforgiving, but the reason I ask is not because I think charity is wrong or that Chris doesn't deserve mercy. The reason I'm asking, rather, is because I'd like to have the discussion only once - and if people do put together a donation drive for Chris when he runs out of money, we're going to have to have the same discussion all over again a month later when Chris has blown his money and needs rescue again.
Because that's what this Ebay stuff is, essentially. He's begging for money because he's rapidly running out, but even if people kept buying, he has no escape plan and he'd be on this razor's edge forever.
Give a manchild a fish / teach a manchild to fish.
They aren't.So he hasn't figured out the only people who buy this crap are the weens and attempted trolls?
Chris makes mind smashingly shitty decisions about everything
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a day.
Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
Does the fat idiot really think that anyone is going to want to buy lego Sonichus? So it went from "I have no monies" to "I have monies" to "the trolls may or may not be talking shit right now and I have no monies"
It should be noted that in the past four days of Chris "having monies and not having monies", he's purchased another $30 in Lego figurines. Some helmets, boxing glove accessories, and a handful of itchy and scratchy figurines (MULTIPLES) from the Simpsons sets.
Chris really needs to get a better handle on the "sales through fear"concept. The idea is to lead people to believe that they'll suffer consequences if they don't buy your shit, not that you'll suffer consequences if they don't. Consumers care about their own problems, not yours. So it went from "I have no monies" to "I have monies" to "the trolls may or may not be talking shit right now and I have no monies"
As much as I want to agree, I can't see Chris doing any of that. His status as a victim is a big part of his persona, as is the hostility and (probably) self-loathing. Of course, we haven't seen desperate Chris yet, who knows.Stop buying his stuff. Save the money for when he's desperate and will do short video requests, Q&A, etc. You'll be able to get better content. The whole draw to his comic is how Chris inserted him and his personal experiences into it. A drawing of Chris or Sonichu doing something with one world bubble isn't a Sonichu revival. I have no problem with Chris receiving money but save it for when he's actually offering something more entertaining.
He is still putting out "The Works", with frame and all.Does the fat idiot really think that anyone is going to want to buy lego Sonichus?
