Kind of split on the issue of Sonichu. Is it possible to make something genious out of turds due to sheer luck (or lack of it) ?
Sonichu is so bad, its good. It is at once uncreative yet unfettered, a perfect window into Chris's autistic mind. A fantasy autobiography more than LOTR, showing us how Chris views the world.
It is not well drawn, well written, or original, but it is a unique look into a most peculiar madness.
The way I see it, the Sonichu comic books really were only the beginning of Chris's escapism being made into a form anybody could actually see, as opposed to simply being in his head since even by that point, Chris was obsessed with putting 'CWC' as a prefix on everything, up to and including 'CWCville City Gym' on his bedroom door.
It actually is kind of tragic when you strip out the attempts to be funny and realize the whole affair is really Chris trying to imagine a world where he'd be happy, a sense of powerlessness in the real world. Of course, being an entitled selfish piece of shit raised on traditional media narratives where the bad guys
have to get beaten into a pulp by the good guys, the whole thing is really a superhero revenge fantasy where Chris gets what he wants in fantasyland because life keeps playing Kick the Autistic on him in real life.
After he stopped making the comics when he realized he violated his own internal logic with the death of Simonla (and then Bob's death where Chris got pissed at the grim reaper for lying to him or something), Chris ended up going tomgirl/trooning out and then the whole hedgehog crew came back but this time as the mini-figures and, really, Chris dropping almost all of the revenge seeking shit in favor of mind-numbingly boring 'playing house' where he and his inhuman friends all went to school together and generally lived perfect lives.
And it's all the more tragic because, understandably, Chris wants to be happy. But for a myriad of reasons, many of them because of Chris himself both because he's an oblivious idiot but sometimes a result of what can only be called as bad karma, he was stick living as the trailer trash he was born as. One just needs to look at all the bullshit he did trying to get Cole Smithey to
acknowledge he still existed while thinking Cole literally threw money in a fireplace to burn in New York, specifically Chris wanting Cole to look after Barb so
Chris could go on his love quest again. While Cole probably stopped caring about his childhood things long ago, it was still an outrageously dick move on Chris's part to sell it all on eBay in the hope Cole would take exception to it.
This whole Merge idiocy is really the endgame for the Sonichu stuff, because it's Chris outright calling for the destruction of our reality in favor of this fictional Who Framed Roger Rabbit shitshow that, naturally, is entirely built to cater to
one person, that being Chris. He WANTS it to be real so hard because it would finally mean he gets his way, for malicious purposes or otherwise, and deep down he has to be aware its all bullshit, but he's in such denial over how crap his life is at this point that it's the only comfort he has left. He said himself some years back that even though he stopped making comics, the comics 'still continued in his head', so he'd rather try to live that life as opposed to trying to be a part of a society that really kind of unwillingly tolerated his existence.
All in all, I'm sure those psych evals tied to the court would be
absolutely goddamn fascinating to read and I do hope they surface one day so we can see what the real experts can say about the unique headcase that CWC has become.
