i really truly just don't know what to make of it

I wish the middle row, far-right one would win, even if it’s only because it bears a superficial resemblance to the North Korean flag.

Thread tax:
This is the current flag of Mississippi. I do not like it. The only item on the flag that clearly represents their heritage is the flower. I don’t like the thin stripes being yellow, and the top middle star being bronze irks me.
Not to revive a dead thread (I mean, last post is 2 months ago), but given the current happenings on wplace with flags I felt the need to look up into some state's flags and their meanings. The Mississippi one is the one that pisses me off the most, so I'm going to go on a rant here.
tl;dr The flag was forcibly changed by politicians despite popular vote, and then attempts to change it back were blocked by said politicians, and the current flag was created by a progressive who hates the state and south. The media then gaslit everyone by creating a false consensus on its support.
The flag has been around since 1894, up till 2021. They tried to change the flag in 2001 after some shooting, but they held a survey which showed it was unfavorable 2-1 to change the flag, so they didn't push it. Then, the George Floyd Riots happened and a politician decided to intentionally NOT hold a survey for public opinion (they literally said they knew it would fail and they could never pass the vote so they subverted the vote entirely) and wrote a bill to remove the flag, state the new flag could not have the confederate battle flag anywhere, and had to have "In god we trust".

didnothavethevotes.webp

There were threats from corporations they wouldn't hold business in the state, and potentially bribery (can't confirm the bribery, just a suspicion, but the threats were real) unless the flag was changed:
corporatethreat.webpcorporatethreat2.webp

After intentionally not holding a vote, and passing a bill to decommission the old state flag, the voters tried to hold a ballot, which is a legal process Mississippi has where citizens vote/collect signatures to get the issue back for voting. Guess what the politicians did? They intentionally blocked and removed this so they couldn't even get retribution because again, they KNEW the citizens DID NOT WANT this new flag and felt subverted they their right to vote was taken away:
214124.webp23532532.webp

To top it all off, they then received 2k+ designs for new flags, the most popular designs were the Bonnie Blue flag, Stennis flag,
bonneiblue.webpstennisflag.webp
The Stennis flag was taken out despite being the most popular because the politician, again, wanted to force the words "In God we Trust" on the design, and the designer didn't want the design compromised, so it was pulled out.
Of course, the politicans didn't want the citizens choosing the "wrong" design, so instead of letting the citizens vote on which design they wanted, they picked 1 flag out of the 2k+ designs! How thoughtful! So the citizens were given a "yes or no" option for voting on a single flag, and that was it. If they voted no, the politicans would choose another flag, potentially worse than this one. The vote passed 71%. (People who wanted the old flag didn't vote obviously, and some voted yes because they feared what the next flag might be).
All the news sites then reported this vote and misconstrued it as the majority actually liking the new flag, and wanting a new flag!
msforced.webp
msforced2.webpmsforced3.webp
Isn't that great? Not only did they force the flag change, picked out the flag for the citizens, blocked the citzens from voting on changing it back, they also then painted everyone as loving the new flag and misconstruing the vote to fake a mass consensus! Wonderful.

So what does this new flag mean anyway?
The flower supposedly represents the magnolia tree, supposedly as a call back to the original flag's magnolia tree (most likely not the case) it also represents the indigenous people of the state!
The 20 stars represent Mississippi being the 20th state to join the Union
The GOLD star is reserved for the indigenous people of the state! It gets a special gold star and place on the top.
"In God We Trust" was forced into the design by polticians, so thats just there.

In reality because of how the flag was put into commission, the flag symbolizes the subversion of the people's right to vote, censorship of opinions, and the march of the progressive agenda, which puts the old flag as a symbol of rebellion against that.
oldmsflag.webpmagnolia.webp
Personally, I think the best designs were the Stennis (contains inspiration from confederate flags, not directly ripped) or bonnie blue flag (another direct rip of a confederate flag). These were the two most popular designs among the citizens. The Magnolia flag, its derivatives, and the "mississippi river" flag (created by someone in Boston who openly hates the south" were the most popular flags among POLITICIANS.

Flags of the Democratic Republican and Democratic Justice parties of South Korea. Both were ruling at some point, and were backed by military dictatorships for most of their existence.

so I'm going to go on a rant here
Sorry for double posting, had more context to add but couldn't edit my post:
Left is the creators of the current MS Magnolia flag. It was created by a chink (corpo graphic designer), an old boomer woman who's an assistant to a politician, a black woman, a corporate ad designer with a bitchy wife, and another Boston corpo graphic designer who thinks "In god we trust" is a racist dogwhistle, and originally wanted a flag that represented the french, british, spanish and native americans because they originally "owned" the land and wanted to remind the people of that, this land doesn't belong to THEM it's STOLEN.
The right is the designer of the Stennis or Hospitality flag, a Daughter to a MS senator who grew up in MS and says she wants to fight for MS and put her state first always.
You can tell why the first one went through yeah?

I actually despise the overly simplistic redesigns. Most look like corporate powerpoint presentation art. The green and wavy lines especially hit me weird, as if they are making a flag for a new brand of diet soda or a new band aid.
Its funny you say this, I haven't looked into some of the other state's flag redesigns but I can bet you a lot of them are made by corporate ad designers like the new Mississippi flag was. Absolutely soulless.

Honestly, it's not the worst of the state flag redesigns. It's fairly unique, has state-specific symbolism, and generally looks fine on a flagpole. Compare that, for example, with the Minnesota flag, which is entirely devoid of character and is frankly very ugly.

Massachusetts is about to change its flag, motto, and seal because they're apparently offensive. Here's to one of the better and more original US state flags.

What is the obsession with destroying icons featuring human beings?
Flags are meant to be seen from a distance, human illustrations are tiny and fiddly. Good vexillogical designs are simple, symbolic, and visibly discernible at a distance whether flying or still.
Personally I think just having some guy on the flag is lazy. They should put more effort into a symbol than that.

They should just use their naval ensign.

There's also the flag of New England which I really like, although that might piss off the rest of the states in the region.

There actually was a submission that used the pine tree motif with Massachusetts colors, but that wasn't selected for the finalists. Instead, these modern monstrosities were:

The middle one feels like a rip off of the Lakotah Nation's flag, which at least was original and carries strong symbolism. If I were Indian, I'd be more offended if that one made the cut to be picked by Massachusetts' dyke governor than by the old one.

They're all terrible except for the middle one because it's probably a rip off of an actually good flag (like you said), but it also doesn't feel like a New England state flag at all. Even then no matter which one they pick Minnesota will still have the worst redesign so far.

You got me looking at the other Injin flags and disappointingly they're almost all corporate logo tier.

It's a triskelion made of legs, It's a Greek symbol but I have no clue how the Isle of Man adopted it. My only guess is that both England and Sicily were conquered by Normans around the same time.
Flag_of_Sicily.webp syracuse-Triskeles.webp
This is the modern Sicilian flag and a silver coin from around 300 BC, they usually slap a gorgon head in the middle for some reason.

Lakotah Nation's flag
This flag drives me insane. It's used at times by the Lakota Nation, the Pine Ridge reservation, and the Oglala Lakota, but the eight tepees are for the eight areas of Pine Ridge. There are a couple versions with seven tepees to represent the seven subtribes of the Lakota, which is better symbolism for the nation at large, but it's also sometimes used for all three. They can't fucking settle on one and nobody writes shit down so finding out why is almost impossible.

To be fair, if you had a flag that slaps as hard as that one does, you'd definitely want to claim it for your own and everyone else bedamned. Aside from the Iroquois flag, which is pretty cool for being a predominantly purple flag and representing the wampum used to identify their ancient confederacy, it might be the best Indian flag.

A very early flag of the Mongolian People's Republic, wasn't used for long. Simple and somewhat interesting to see a country in it's early stages.

This one felt eh to me, but the coat of arms during this era seemed very cool. Obviously way before the Mongolian PR transitioned to a cyrllilc script

The flag of the Bogd Khanate before Mongolia became a communist nation. It has a very beautiful pattern to it
