i really truly just don't know what to make of it
Not to revive a dead thread (I mean, last post is 2 months ago), but given the current happenings on wplace with flags I felt the need to look up into some state's flags and their meanings. The Mississippi one is the one that pisses me off the most, so I'm going to go on a rant here.I wish the middle row, far-right one would win, even if it’s only because it bears a superficial resemblance to the North Korean flag.
Thread tax:
This is the current flag of Mississippi. I do not like it. The only item on the flag that clearly represents their heritage is the flower. I don’t like the thin stripes being yellow, and the top middle star being bronze irks me.

It's just a slow thread, feel free to post whenever. Not to revive a dead thread (I mean, last post is 2 months ago)
Sorry for double posting, had more context to add but couldn't edit my post:so I'm going to go on a rant here
Its funny you say this, I haven't looked into some of the other state's flag redesigns but I can bet you a lot of them are made by corporate ad designers like the new Mississippi flag was. Absolutely soulless.I actually despise the overly simplistic redesigns. Most look like corporate powerpoint presentation art. The green and wavy lines especially hit me weird, as if they are making a flag for a new brand of diet soda or a new band aid.
Honestly, it's not the worst of the state flag redesigns. It's fairly unique, has state-specific symbolism, and generally looks fine on a flagpole. Compare that, for example, with the Minnesota flag, which is entirely devoid of character and is frankly very ugly.Sorry for double posting, had more context to add but couldn't edit my post:
Left is the creators of the current MS Magnolia flag. It was created by a chink (corpo graphic designer), an old boomer woman who's an assistant to a politician, a black woman, a corporate ad designer with a bitchy wife, and another Boston corpo graphic designer who thinks "In god we trust" is a racist dogwhistle, and originally wanted a flag that represented the french, british, spanish and native americans because they originally "owned" the land and wanted to remind the people of that, this land doesn't belong to THEM it's STOLEN.
The right is the designer of the Stennis or Hospitality flag, a Daughter to a MS senator who grew up in MS and says she wants to fight for MS and put her state first always.
You can tell why the first one went through yeah?

Flags are meant to be seen from a distance, human illustrations are tiny and fiddly. Good vexillogical designs are simple, symbolic, and visibly discernible at a distance whether flying or still. What is the obsession with destroying icons featuring human beings?
They should just use their naval ensign.Massachusetts is about to change its flag, motto, and seal because they're apparently offensive. Here's to one of the better and more original US state flags.

There actually was a submission that used the pine tree motif with Massachusetts colors, but that wasn't selected for the finalists. Instead, these modern monstrosities were:They should just use their naval ensign.

There's also the flag of New England which I really like, although picking that might piss off the rest of the states in the region.

They're all terrible except for the middle one because it's probably a rip off of an actually good flag (like you said), but it also doesn't feel like a New England state flag at all. Even then no matter which one they pick Minnesota will still have the worst redesign so far.but that wasn't selected for the finalists. Instead, these modern monstrosities were:
It's a triskelion made of legs, It's a Greek symbol but I have no clue how the Isle of Man adopted it. My only guess is that both England and Sicily were conquered by Normans around the same time.has anyone posted the isle of man's flag yet

This flag drives me insane. It's used at times by the Lakota Nation, the Pine Ridge reservation, and the Oglala Lakota, but the eight tepees are for the eight areas of Pine Ridge. There are a couple versions with seven tepees to represent the seven subtribes of the Lakota, which is better symbolism for the nation at large, but it's also sometimes used for all three. They can't fucking settle on one and nobody writes shit down so finding out why is almost impossible.Lakotah Nation's flag

To be fair, if you had a flag that slaps as hard as that one does, you'd definitely want to claim it for your own and everyone else bedamned. Aside from the Iroquois flag, which is pretty cool for being a predominantly purple flag and representing the wampum used to identify their ancient confederacy, it might be the best Indian flag. This flag drives me insane.
