Any ideas? This is a very fun mode; would love to be able to dive in further.
For novice Save the World players, it's imperative you do the "Misfit Toys" questline that's currently available. It gives you Jilly Teacup who gives you the team perk Happy Holidays, which lowers your ability cooldowns and is extremely useful for loadouts centered on the TEDDY or minigun abilities. Combined with Enforcer Grizzly as your commander, you can place TEDDY faster than it runs out. This is what people call "infinite TEDDY" and you'll see some of it if you play with randoms. This kind of build can carry you until well into Canny Valley, at which point you'll want to get into loadouts that buff weapons instead of abilities.

Unfortunately a lot of the meta loadouts require heroes from seasonal events, and the only way to get them outside the event periods is with Hero Recruitment Vouchers, which you can only get by playing Ventures, which is a big slog. So getting fully kitted out is a waiting game and not just a grind. But you can still make good loadouts and have fun without meta heroes, it's just more work.

If you have enough gold, you want to buy all the Legendary Flux from the weekly shop each week, which you can use to get most heroes from the Collection Book. If you have a surplus of gold you might also get the lower grades of flux, so you can cheaply get heroes for their perks and worry about maxing them out later. Buying the event heroes in the event shop is important too - Subzero Zenith, Ice Queen and Lynx Kassandra from the current shop are must-haves.

You want to get Legendary and Mythic survivors whenever you have the opportunity. Survivors make up the bulk of your power level. You can get heroes and survivors from Llamas and mission alerts, keep an eye out for good ones.

One of the best resources for guides and advice is, may Allah forgive me, r/FORTnITE. It is also pretty much the only place the developers post patch notes or communicate. The best site for checking and filtering mission alert rewards is FortniteDB.

Regarding weapons, they massacred my boy the Xenon Bow so the next best that everyone uses is the Vacuum Tube Bow. Once you upgrade it to Tier 3 its chain lightning perk can nuke crowds of enemies, the only downside is that it's locked to doing Nature element damage. You can flux it from Expansion Schematics -> Vacuum Tube Weapons. The Xenon Bow (under Neon Weapons) is still good and worth having once you come to terms with it requiring the same precision as other bows and no longer nuking crowds of enemies. It's great for cheesing husks with shields, for instance.

There are of course good weapons in other types besides bows, but they're more evenly balanced, so just try them to see what you like. If you regret investing in something you can get the resources back by recycling the schematic.

Broner's tips are good, as I do run a TEDDY build myself. Honestly getting your hands on some blueprints with perks that you want, as once you're able to craft weapons at Tier 3 you'll be able to take advantage.

I like Affliction (Poison damage), and generally reroll stats on blue prints to focus on that. So my machine gun causes affliction and then targets that are effected by affliction take my damage.

Auto Turret is like the only gadget I use.. That and the resupply box.

I'll run/unlock this as soon as possible; anything that'll help me make progress easily like this is welcome, and I think I saw someone run the build earlier.

Saw some heroes myself that I was wanting to grab but sadly sorta missed out on; two in particular are both supposed to pop up in May, fortunately, so there's that.

As a new player; thanks. I'll try to see which ones I can properly grab; I'm a bit busy IRL, so I might not be able to grab everything.

Heard about the Xenon Bow nerf, and I'm aware of just how devastating it was; I'll try to pick up this Vacuum Tube Bow when I get a chance.

I'm looking to be a Ninja/Melee-focused build myself; most of my favorite heroes are labled as Ninja characters, and I do like melee in general. Certainly wouldn't mind grabbing a few guns and abilities for utility; not quite going for strictly "meta" builds and such, more just wanting to get all of the major/main content out of the way, unlock some of the exclusive STW stuff, that sort of thing.

I gotta say, for the first season of a new chapter, this current season feels a lot more substantial than previous season 1s.

It also helps that I'm breaking up my Battle Royale matches with Blitz matches.

I wonder how many people this season have figured out the same trick I have?

Which is... try to land in the balloons. Usually you have them all to yourself and get decent loot and potentially a chance to shield up in a place where you're basically untouchable.

I only had one game where someone else landed in the balloon. In that case I made sure to watch them open the item box and grab a weapon ASAP so they couldn't get it, and then it was easy to finish them.

Every time I try to land in a hot air balloon, I fall through it.

I've never been in one of the balloons this season; should probably try it out...

Dunno what to tell ya, I tried it just now and it worked fine.

I'm curious though what happens if you land on the big round thing that hovers over the center of the map. Guess I'll load up a game and try it.

BTW, and this is speaking as a Zero Build player, but I've felt like regular BR is a lot easier than OG. Whenever I go over to Fortnite OG, I usually do decent but I've never once won a game, ever. But in regular BR, this season alone I've had seven wins. Solo.

Does anyone else have the same experience?

Tried a few Quint games, and every one has been a disaster. Somebody marks a position on the map. Two people immediately go somewhere on the other side of the map. The marked position is always in the busiest POI, so the guy who marked it immediately dies and goes back to lobby. Then its you and the other guy in your squad who dropped there fighting a five man team, while the two guys who dropped on the other side of the map are farming mats in ZERO BUILD.

Its wild how the addition of one extra player breaks matchmaking so bad.

That's how every squads match with randos has been with me for years now.

So... what do you guys think of the South Park stuff in the game now? I'm not exactly a fan of the franchise, and I was considering taking a break for about a month or so until all this blows over; what're your thoughts?

Towelie is a choice I didn't see coming.

Including the 4 boys and Butters is a good way to introduce Quints.

Stick of Truth being a game ending McGuffin is a neat concept. Gives the squad something else to look for besides loot and kills.

The skins are nice. Cartman, Butters, and Kenny are the standouts. Stan and Kyle are just there. Cheesy Poofs (Scooby Snacks reskin, but you don't get shield or a speed boost) are a consumable and a weapon since you can throw them. The Stick of Truth forcing everyone into final storm in a small circle is really fun if you plan around it. Even if you don't get it, it's a fun way to spice up the match. It's like the Doctor Doom transformation during the second Marvel season in terms of completely changing how a match ends.

I think a products "coolness" factor finally hits zero when "The Office" is considered for collaboration.

I do hope there's just more to the "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" collab then just Ed. Though, it is very on brand for "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" to be cheapskate con-artist.
