At some point it should have occurred to them to pump the brakes on the Kickstarter before accepting such a huge truckload of money. Even still, just release something, anything! Even a shit product is indefinitely better than ghosting the entire fanbase for more than two years. People were happy with the meager updates before, so why be so gun shy now?

Failure is tough to gauge with this. Some projects from Kickstarter took 7~ years to complete and were well received when it happened. Granted the projects I have in mind had devs that were far more transparent about their progress/processes during them years but still, hit me with the rainbow because I don't think they're down and out yet.

(Xeet)(A)I've seen people say that they're reluctant to release stuff because their shit just gets traced and a mod is made out of it (there are a metric fuckton of Darnell mods on Gamebanana). Guess they don't wanna be the bad guy to send take down notices to "people who made them what they are", so instead they just share basically nothing. On that note, I'm sure someone already made or is making full versions of the recently shared Erect remixes and mods to go along with them. As an aside, a couple of Kawai's shared Erect remixes have also been available on his Youtube channel for the past 1-2 years.
From what it seems like, what's holding up development is the creative side, not the actual programming and development stuff - the blogs they shared recently were very informative and juicy on the technical side, but it's basically fuck-all for a DDR game that has been in (supposed) active development since 2020~ish.
