Well, he started off ignoring anyone on the internet. That handled most trolling plans against him. He's actually doing a lot better at noticing certain patterns that were characteristic of past troll plots. Actually putting what he's learned into action leaves something to be desired, but in general, he's managed to avoid trolling attempts very successfully for a long time.
