As far as I can understand, any kind of interaction where someone may be be romantically interested was taken out, people complementing someone on their beauty as well, most mentions of gender or men and women being different were changed. Can someone give me a TL;DR on the situation with Fire Emblem: Engage? From what I understand it apparently has a lot of issues with the dialogue being translated incorrectly but too many people are hyper-focusing on the Anna support for me to really get a good read on it.
So they literally made the interactions where you give them a ring to obviously signify marriage and made it an eternal pact of friendship? As far as I can understand, any kind of interaction where someone may be be romantically interested was taken out, people complementing someone on their beauty as well, most mentions of gender or men and women being different were changed.
They didnt censor them all, it's actually worse than that.So they literally made the interactions where you give them a ring to obviously signify marriage and made it an eternal pact of friendship?
That has to be one of the dumbest changes I've ever heard of and that means a lot coming from this line of work.
Whoever working at NoA/Threehouse has something against signs of affection, complementing other's looks and simple romance.
Assuming you're a beginner-intermediate, games with furigana should help to look up the meaning of certain kanji words/jukugo in a dictionary (either Jisho.org or the mobile app Takoboto). Mario, Zelda (musous & BotW), Pikmin, Megaton Musashi X, Famicom Detective Club remakes and Dragon Quest 11 S have furigana on Switch as far as I know.Any good recommendations for games to practice?
They are getting exactly the credit they deserve; mocking and ridicule.
I think I prefer the 80s/90s style of just making shit up to whatever the fuck we have nowadays. At least then stories were about killing the dragon to save the princess, instead of befriending the dragon so the princess can be perfect and take all the credit because you're just a loser simp trying to hold her down.I remember when really old games didn't even get translations, but rather actual ad libbing by the west. Then we moved onto to getting actual translations with silly English name changes. Then we started getting accurate translations with honorifics and original names left intact. Now we're horseshoeing back into fan fiction tier ad libbing and trying to scrub all the Japanese culture out of games because it's problematic, icky, or doesn't align with the idealogy of the translator.
You mean other than removing any mention of gender or gender differences? The romance being toned down is weird but it never really belonged in Fire Emblem anyway. Is there any woke shit going on in the location?
Wait, literally any mention of gender? So if they're talking about a girl they'll always use gender neutral "they" instead of "she", or something? What about gendered terms, like princess? How far are they actually taking that? You mean other than removing any mention of gender or gender differences?
I haven't played the game myself, but from what I've seen people are saying that gendering only occurs to your character based on what gender you select for your character.Wait, literally any mention of gender? Nintendo is really slipping lately. What a disgrace.
I don't remember the specifics but it isn't that extreme, but anything vaguely romantic/flirtatious or that can be even remotely construed as a gender stereotype is changed. It sucks but isn't that uncommon, for example in many games phrases like "you wouldn't hit a girl" or "woman's intuition" or anything that implies a character doesn't like rough/outdoorsy things (or that they like dainty/feminine things) because they are a girl will all get changed so that it no longer has anything to do with their gender. It doesn't have to be even remotely offensive to get changed, localizers have a massive hard-on for removing that type of thing.Wait, literally any mention of gender? I feel like it's a replacement theory thing, where as time goes by more and more faggots are replacing normal people, and are able to push for more bullshit. Why was this one in particular hit so hard by the gender weirdos?
Three Houses wasn't anywhere near this bad.
To be fair, Fire Emblem localization has been bad and questionable since Fates? I mean, I see people complaining about localization for FE starting from Fates, not older games. Also Fates happens to have romance thing more prominent too, it's very late to complain about romance contents in FE now. Then there's the gacha FE Heroes.Wait, literally any mention of gender? It's that in FE Engage, all romance choices are bisexual and they have same dialogue to both genders of protagonist. If I have to guess, then localizors hate that now they are being treated the same as disgusting male weebs. Or maybe deep down they are jealous and upset that they are probably still single since highschool or whatever, like this one from Pokemon. Why was this one in particular hit so hard by the gender weirdos?
