Being previously familiar with Vivziepop's works, like her FurAffinity or that Kesha AMV that she made private for some reason, and seeing her as another furry artist with mildly intriguing aspiring ideas, I expected it to be a DeviantArt OC bait disguised as an unhinged and overly wacky cartoon that introverted potatoes like myself can enjoy. I've been consuming a big load of that eccentric Hot Topic style shit during my school years and even though I really wanted to, I didn't anticipate any strong writing ideas or character development from a project lead by VivziePop. Nevertheless, after watching the first season I've spotted an interesting premise of pointing out the hypocrisy, double standards and overall dirty nature of the humanity (Vivzie mentioned the show Invader Zim as an influence for how dumb and pitiful the humanity was represented there), which I thought could be a fine sitcom-like premise for a show with goofy cartoon characters that you don't need to know much about in the first place: you've got an angsty, mocking, yet dorky petty tyrant that doesn't put up with anyone's bullshit and does his job for a quick buck for the sake fun of it, with his colleagues - a sentimental sidekick that questions the moral standards of the world and the main character that opposes them, and his cheerful and generous wife. Even Loona can be implemented as a more introverted and apathetic version of Blitz, she's just an emo dog from someone's notebook.
I find Brandon's humour to my liking, but I really think that it may have used more edge - not in a thoughtlessly obnoxious way though, mindless dropping of taboo words and making references to tragic events won't impress anyone with the IQ equivalent to a three-digit number. In my country every new Helluva Boss episode ends up on the #1 spot in YouTube charts. However, every episode with censored dildos and particularly that one where Stella called Stolas a cunt did not end up there at all. Sure, pushing the boundaries of what topics could be touched on a self-proclaimed family-friendly platform is very risky, they don't want their cartoon to get demonetized and this ain't Newgrounds, but there are plenty of things so few creators cover in their entertainment-oriented content. Helluva Boss episodes could revolve around the topics of meaningless decision making due to the lack of objective knowledge, coping with someone's exaggerated problems, the downside of remaining neutral in critical situations, rejection of natural norms, severe social withdrawal, unreliable relationships, porn addiction and nihilism, to name a few. All these things are much more sensitive to humanity, because they'd make anyone uncomfortable and not just the ultra-traditional or ultra-liberal people with imaginary nitpicks. Plus, I doubt any of them will get a video demonetized.
