Hot and possibly autistic take here, but I found Alastor to be infinitely more intimidating in the pilot. The fluid animation, the excitement in his voice, and his facial expressions (even though he was still smiling the whole time) made him feel more unpredictable. He didn’t feel like an edgelord. He was genuinely frightening.

The show took that all away and made him an edgy Marty Stu.

I legit thought he was going to kill Charlie in the pilot simply because of the unnerving energy he had.

Voodoo is the final song on Godsmack's self-titled debut album from 1998.
It's also their best song in my opinion, better than Stand Alone.

Alastor was genuinely the only thing I liked from the pilot. There was this very sinister energy behind his character, plus he came off as a classy gentlemen rather than a screeching middle schooler so he completely stood out from the other characters.

Like, he would have been terrific as a charismatic overlord that in reality has dangerous intentions and nobody is inevitably safe from him. The show did him dirty.

And it's a banger.

I watched Hazbin Hotel finally. I don't like a few things they changed from the pilot, namely:
- Vaggie, Killjoy, and Cherri Bomb's new voices.
- Charlie sucks now. She has way less confidence, is way worse at singing, and is basically a neurotic secretary now.

Otherwise, not bad.

I actually like him more than in the pilot. He's way creepier.

He doesn't really fit the shows narrative well... satan wants to back the hotel is far more powerful and doesn't want to fuck over his daughter.

Most overlords not part of the Vees seem like they would either throw support behind the hotel or at least receptive to it if for no other reason then to get into Lucifer's good graces.

The pilot makes alister important the series kind of begs the question why anyone would put up with him much make deals with him. He feels oddly forced where orginally it wasn't.

I think the reason we believe that is because we didn't know as much in the pilot. We weren't given much info about him to go off of besides the backstory told by Vaggie, and the things we could infer from the screen. Contrast that to the official series where he's treated almost as the author's pet. My issue, which I'm sure you guys can agree, he's jerked off constantly. It especially shows when he speaks with Zestial, specifically with the background characters going "ZOMG ALASTOR". It reeks of 2012 "my character is badass and feared by everyone" in my eyes. Again, I see this when the hotel is attacked by loan sharks. Mimzy's entire character felt like it was just a piece for Viv to show off Alastor when he fights the sharks in the flattest way possible. Viv needed jobbers to show off Alastor's powers and Mimzy was just a vehicle (lol) to get them there. All of this was just for Viv to deliver the hack line of "it's time I remind everyone why I am here"

I feel as if that could have been done better if the line was either written differently or delivered better. Moreover, if Alastor actually used his "heckin OP demon p0werz" on someone that would actually be impressive against him.

All this sperging is meant to say, I think we prefer Pilot Alastor because Viv didn't have as much time to jerk him off due to having to actually put out a concept. Being given the official show allowed her to go ahead and feed into her power fantasies via tumblr sexyman #2154579.
Thank you and good night.

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING.
Alastor in the pilot felt like the spooky powerful wild card he was meant to be, the stupid "always smiling" thing worked because he was so erratic you never knew if he was a second away from ripping someone in half and feeling nothing about it, his politeness and more classy nature compared to the overgrown manchildren in the cast made him stand out, and his more monstrous moments were when the facade dropped, but resumed as quickly as it had left. Plus, no one knew much about him, making him seem actually mysterious and threatening, making you wonder what he's actually doing here and how strong he is.

Alastor from the show is a fucking loser they keep trying to hype up, failing pretty much everytime until Adam finally oneshots the fucking edgelord, and he still shows back up a couple of seconds later. He swears pretty casually despite him being the one character to never curse once in the pilot, the shittier animation made his movements much more predictable than the zippy sociopath we saw in the pilot, and we see first-hand that he's kind of a bitch when it comes to anyone who isn't several levels below him.
Considering how his only "fights" are completely onesided in either his or Adam's favor, for all we know he might not even have a clue on how to fight, and is just being carried by his powers alone.

Also, is it me, or is he made way more "emotional"? Maybe his very short screentime in the pilot was why we never saw shit like this, but he seems way more easier to bother, easily being annoyed by angel, Vaggie bothering the RADIO DEMON who's enemy is a talking TV into making at least two television ads in one episode, and beefing with the strongest dude in hell over a character he's known for like, five minutes, from the audience's POV.

Excuse me for the double post, but as I've been trying to let this show fade from my head, I saw this post that pretty much exemplified the core problem I have with the entire thing. Its idea is cool as shit, but Viv's immaturity, horny fujo shit, and deteriorating artstyle led to all of this and her basically squandering gold.

HH reminds me of those beautiful houses in the Rust Belt that get taken over by people of melanin and turned into trap houses. Just utter wasted potential. It’s genuinely disheartening.

So why is Helluva Boss's animation direction way better than Hazbin Hotel's despite HB being free-to-watch while HT isn't? From the character designs to overall the animation consistency. It's still not that good, but it feels more professional than Hazbin Hotel. What's different?
It's probably all the outsourcing.

Bento Box is pretty much carrying the whole show on its back, and given that their track record is working on more simpler, slice-of-life shows like Bob's Burgers or whatever Family Guy ripoff they're making, to say that giving them the task of animating Viv's nightmarishly detailed characters and world (with a way more grandiose setting) would be hard would be an understatement.

Because while Viv actually does have some talent as an animation director as HB and the Hazbin pilot has demonstrated to some extent (even if its because she effectively has infinite time for each episode of HB unlike HH), she is horrible at actually managing multiple projects. And lets be real, even solely devoting herself to one project would be a challenge for her based on all the behind the scenes rumors we are hearing about her poor time and personal management skills.

Her deciding to make both HB and HH effectively at the same time meant that she handed off most of what should have been her duties on direction, animation, etc. to Bento Box who have no experience, no time and nowhere near the skill to pull off her highly detailed fast moving technicolored and complexly directed animated nightmare. Hence why HH looks like shit while HB looks a fair bit more put together...even if it still looks ugly as sin in my opinion due to her god awful character designs and obsession with red tones.
