Hit by Youtube's AdBlocker detection. Help needed.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Just use Freetube in Whonix. Use local API instead of invidious proxies and trust that the tor network will protect you and be more reliable than the invidious stuff for now. And download the videos you watch in yt-dlp. When you get a message from yt-dlp telling you to sign in to confirm you are not a bot, enter "tor-ctrl signal NEWNYM" into the terminal several times until it gives you an exit node that works.

Or just use yt-dlp and Freetube with a VPN.

We're probably not that long from YouTube blocking embedding as a feature. And also forcing a sign-in to use the site.
Sucks that there are no real alternatives to YT online AFAIK, at least aside from that Chinese site (which of course has CCP-friendly policies instead of "woke"-friendly policies). Seems that every other alternative is too obscure and there's not much on those sites.

Getting a weird issue with Vivaldi now; I see flashes of ads before getting to the video I'm trying to watch. Sometimes I have to click a "skip" button as well to get to the video. Turning on Ad Nauseum didn't fix the issue, and got me one of those YouTube Bad Boy Ad Blocker pop-ups. Brave and LibreWolf seemingly unaffected.

Ads are also seemingly appearing as a "pre" video for me in LibreWolf with UBO, and eventually the "Skip" button appears.

EDIT: Restarting LibreWolf seemed to fix the issue for me, maybe UBO had an update pushed recently today.

Just got an ad on Youtube through Brave w/adblock. Hasn't happened in a long time. It caught me offguard. I am angry about it. Someone must die for this!
Try Firefox or Librewolf. Both of those still support the ManifestV2 extension API, which allows adblockers to be more powerful. Google, being an ad company, deprecated ManifestV2 in favor of the more adblocker-unfriendly ManifestV3 in the chromium engine, which Brave is based on.

Looks like the redirect thing on Invidious has been reduced to just 3 instances now
Even self-hosting your own instance is fucked, currently mine on the latest build gets right up to the video itself then dies out with this:

It makes me very sad (:_( I've just started ripping anything I want to watch with yt-dlp, both out of spite and because I refuse on principle to go to the actual jewtube page after they started killing invidious off like this

Seems Invidious currently has only 1 (sort of) working instance, and the rest are currently disabled in one way or another via YT BS.

And of course more and more videos are being blocked from playback in embeds as YT tries to funnel people into using the YT crapsite.

Do these morons really think they're going to make it profitable by making it so shitty people refuse to use it at all?

For fucks sake. Up until today, you could skip ads on the youtube app by closing and opening the video again. Now the app knows if you've watched the 23120k ads before the video or not and forces them back if you didnt when you reopen the video. They fucked the mobile app now.

Are you using the official youtube app? Because if you are, buddy, you have no right to complain at all.

Switch to some something like freetube, newpipe, grayjay, I am sure more are out there if you want to keep looking.

I'm probably late to this but what are people using to block youtube ads now? Adblock and ublock don't seem to be working and it's driving me insane. Seeing a little snapshot of an ad before the video plays fills me with a kind of weird visceral disgust/irritation that's analogous to what I feel around buzzing flies.

Just a heads up, but it looks like YouTube is pulling some shenanigans again. Nothing that a refresh can't solve, but I've recently been hit with a few 429 error codes on Freetube where the video won't load. Same deal on the actual site. As said, a bit of reloading can solve it, but keep your eyes out for further developments.

Also, seems YouTube is going to take the next step towards just becoming cable TV with the removal of the view counter. So, if you have any app or addon to start archiving the view count metadata, now's the time.
