I've heard the $800 million number thrown around but idk if that's accurate or not. Gaming sites aren't exactly known for their reliable fact-checking. I've heard the term "set aside" thrown around, which... doesn't explain much. "Set aside" means it could have already been invested, or it's what they're "planning" to invest. Some reports are saying they lost $95 million on this project.

To put things into perspective: the average budget of a major release in the sixth gen was $10m, by the late 2010s, it was $50m. Today, it's can go as high as $200 million. So maybe that billion number was true, or maybe not. I know Sony had leaked emails where they expected their Spider-Man movies to make at least a billion, so you have an idea about how absurdly inflated their view on money is.
 
All this for an extraction shooter - a game mode I don't know why devs and publishers go wild for. Tarkov basically has a monopoly, and the playercount for that isn't worth of the obsession. At least LOL/ASSFAGGOTS had insane revenue to warrant all the half assed MOBAS of a decade ago or PUBG/Fortnite's success to bring all the battle royale cashgrabs half a decade ago.

Hyena's character bio page is fucking insane, makes me feel positively about the Coldsteel OC in Rainbow six Siege or waifu/hasubando-bait in Valorant which is somehow even more insane.

That was spanning multiple projects, which sounds like they're all canceled too. This was just the headliner, I think this one had $100m or something.

The ONE BILLION DOLLARS that often gets quoted (such as on the front page for some reason, which is fucking stupid) is Sega's budget for the Super Game initiative which is for a whole fleet of big budget games. 800 mil to 1 bil is several times more expensive than Halo Infinite which was a much more important title that took much longer to develop by a much larger conglomerate, even with Sega/CA incompetence it's physically impossible for a game of this small a scope to cost that much and if I had to place a 20 dollar bet, I'd say 50 million to 100 million dollars sounds much closer to reality.

Creative Assembly is more "woke" than SEGA. CA is a British game studio that got bought out by Sega of Japan in 2005 to expand their reach in Europe and other western markets.

Total War is Creative Assembly's most famous franchise and the direct reason Sega bought them out. They sacrificed their core audience to try to cash in on the zoomer looter shooter craze. It's no surprise that after a disaster like this that Sega of Japan would start cleaning out Sega Europe's ranks.
 
I got to play the prealpha @ 27 FPS on a fucking 4090OC + 13900 KS, clear case of whoever the fuck trying to carbon copy the success Apex had like 5 years ago, but now, with neurodivergent types, still not that different from Payday 3 or Exoprimal, which are the two only things I play right now.
 
I get that this was an attempt to pump Soyga's ESG score to get more BlackCock shekels, but did they really need to depict that gross looking cosplayer molesting a severely vandalized Model 1 Genesis in the "Gameplay" Trailer? For that matter, given how incredibly protective of Sonic and autistically strict about he's portrayed in the comics Sega is, why were CA allowed to drag him into this cluster in the first place? Didn't that franchise suffer enough from 2005-2011?

The secret is that the game appeals to the primitive urge to dig a hole, drink brew and hunt megafauna with the lads.

These companies keep blowing stacks trying to make the next globohomo movement shooter while I'm patiently waiting for a new Tribes game that will never come. Using terrain to "ski" off hills into massive jumps on large maps will always be one of the coolest feeling movement systems and is absolutely an untapped market.
 
CA got way too greedy. They have(had) nearly 900 employees somehow. Compare that to AAA studios like Bethesda or Naughty dog who are around 400. I wouldn't exactly call Total War AAA productions even if you're making like 3 or more of them at the same time. Just keep hiring, what could go wrong? Total Warhammer wasn't just a fluke, right?
Also it's kind of funny to see a Japanese company throw their western developers under the bus as soon as shit goes wrong. Some real Square Enix vibes here. I mean they were absolutely in the right in this case but still, it's exactly that. Sega greenlit Hyenas in the first place, it's not like CA just get to do whatever they want.
Anyway let's hope this knocks some sense into the people remaining.

It really does seem like the devs had a "How do you do fellow kids" mindset when making these characters. The devs really thought that younger zoomers and Gen Alphas would eat this up and like these characters. Really speaks of the delusions and hubris of the dev team.

I remember seeing on TWH3 thread someone saying that out of all the employees, only one person knows how the legacy system works. Would make sense if CA is aping 40K mechanicus and literally cannot know how its own shit works and just builds upon the old legacy code, explaining why features keep disappearing.
