Pirated it, it was very interesting to play. The building was a bit difficult to get used to, but I always make shitty builds.

This is what I'm hoping for the most. I always loved creating neighborhoods and worlds in sims 2 and 3. They have been mostly quiet on it unless I missed something. They did a Q&A on their discord and said no, because the computational load
Oh damn, but hopefully that’s a mod possibility.

Besides the aforementioned shady behavior and the developer's past history, I have to agree on the visuals. I think it extends to the UI and marketing, too. It's all extremely bland and sterile.

I think the main thing a lot of these Sims competitors are missing is charm. Everyone talks about how wacky and goofy Sims 1-2 (and arguably 3 at points) are, but nobody seems to actually take it into account as an important facet of the series. It's a huge part of why the Sims 4 is so hated-- they killed the unique Maxis style of humor in favor of retarded qUirKy reddit shit-- but nobody making a competitor seems to be able to pick up on that.

inZOI is touting all these realistic and vaunted features, stuff like being able to create literally any object through AI or being very specific about personalities and appearance tweaking, but there's absolutely no heart to any of it. All of the interfaces are very clinical and calculated, with even normal human actions coming off as robotic at worst and influencer-tier exaggerations at best. The prerelease gameplay trailers for inZOI made my skin crawl and I sincerely hope there's some better animation in the full release. It feels very insincere; like a calculated attempt to cash in on a monopolized genre instead of a heartfelt attempt at capturing why people loved it so much.

I think that's one of the reasons I hate Cities Skylines (1) so much is because they copied a lot of SimCity's content without knowing how any of it worked, added stuff that made the whole experience worse, and didn't understand any of the finer points and personality. Instead they created a whole fake Twitter feature for the game and pretended like the mascot for it was the part that everyone loved.

I will quote myself about this post I put in the TS4 topic, about how this game won't kill The Sims 4:

The Sims 4 will always have defenders but it could peel off players that don't really like the woke/diversity shit being pushed so hard. The problem with InZOI is that I don't really see what it offers that Sims 4 doesn't and what people want to see. (I don't play TS4 so I wouldn't know).

But modding is going to what makes or breaks the game. Coomer mods are going to happen one way or another, best to encourage modding and start building up a library of mods that create wildly different experiences. The mods that allow your wife-Zoi to walk around in fetish gear and be always sexually available, or have a harem of lolis might eventually exist but they will always be fringe and never on mainstream sites.

Never got the appeal of these types of games. Why would i want to micromanage some retarded npc?
Because you can be a fucked-up sociopath and write it off as "le funny doll house game". Peak female vibes honestly, and probably why it took off with them. Now however, the white girls have been replaced with drag queens and blacks.

InZoi looks fucking tiring. So many ways to edit and decorate everything. I love zoo games but Planet Zoo turned me off cause it's a literal 3D engine. The animals are an afterthought. Same shit with inzoi, seemingly. Then again a lot of sims fanatics say theyre only there for the building and lose interest once it's time to play.

The lack of stylization in this game really underlines how detached it is. You can go from broke to owning a mansion in one lifetime and everyone has huge cars and are smoking hot kpop babes.

The game is ... weird
character creator is the definition of uncanny valley. the faces look good until they move or until lighting gets into the picture.
theres k pop stank all over the clothing options and animations of the characters in general, which is i guess to be expected.
the game by itself is pretty easy in terms to juggle all the needs and theres little to no point in actually do the character "wants". theres a lot of jank with how zois operate: like how if you que cooking with something else, he will take the ingredients from the fridge (btw i hate that the food menu always pop outs) , and then go do the next action from the que and only after that he will continue with cooking.
Theres city schedule that im convinced is just not working. leveling up some skills is a pain since 1 action que does 1 animation of whatever the thing you doing, like doing a couple of the lifts of the dumbbells or hitting baseball once with the bat. or if theres a sofa nearby they will constantly sit and get up during a conversation if some action require standing animation
Messages that zois writing themselves are incoherent, manual control near stairs is a nightmare, driving isn't great. and squeaky clean everything is kinda pisses me off.
i do like the ability to craft your clothes and do sims 3 style of choosing color for pretty much anything. and just walking the city GTA style is really cool.
but ultimately i see nothing so wrong that cannot be fixed or modded. Im optimistic but its so raw i cant even tell if its good

How much goofy/charming stuff does it have in it? Burglars, prank calls, etc.? The original Sims was so much more than a sim thanks to stuff like that.

I keep saying that Planet Zoo would've been a more interesting title if it acted as a stand-alone expansion pack to Planet Coaster, basically using the other game as advertising to build the ultimate park.

That seems to be endemic to these sorts of poorly-thought out simulation games. Getting the "big stuff" should be something to work toward, not something that you could get easily.

None so far as far as i understand, the game is straight faced just coping reality to the best of its ability.
the only divinations that theres spirits and cats are some sort of corporate gods
you can make freaks but i don't think theres any potential for comedy otherwise. the whole game gives me weird power fantasy feel but in the modern setting

I got a text from the shopping app on my phone. I chose to respond "ugh spam" and got "this is not spam" back.

The next day I got another text from the app, this time one of the options was "don't try to tell me this isn't spam", to which I got "this is clearly not spam"

I found that humorous.

If you go to work in a non-rabbithole everyone gets up about an hour before quitting and cleans the building. That's definitely not something you see in the US, so I found that charming.

You can talk about how you feel like you see a cat no one else sees, and how you're always being watched. They really lean into the cat thing, money is called meows, and you can earn meow coins that can be traded in for donuts to change moods and stuff - like aspiration points in the Sims.

There's not any sims style goofy, which is good and bad imo. It's bad because the Sims is funny, but it's good they're establishing their own feel and not just copying the Sims.

As a long time life sim player...everything about this game is so weird and has the distinct touch of Asian oddity to it.

I fucking love it. I don't know why, but I do. Maybe the years of being in an abusive Stockholm-like relationship with TS4 really mentally broke me.

I don't think it has the charm of the early Sims games yet, and I don't think it ever will. The Sims 1-3 were just a different kind of experience. Especially the first two. Right now InZoi is very sterile feeling, and its weirdness comes from something less intentional, I think. The gameplay itself is very raw because it is so early in Early Access. It is fun though (for me) and character creator is a blast. I'm optimistic it'll only get way better from here.

But will it ever allow me to create a Zoi who is obsessed with Grilled Cheese a la The Sims 2, and do other zany shit? Doubtful.

And as not to double post, the greatest lets player in the world is enjoying InZoi

Funnier still how earlier the game scolded him for not having a social life or friends. If he had more self awareness I feel like that would have hit too close to home.
