Probably a lot of auto plays from the past and recommenders. I have went into my YouTube watch history and removed it, told it not to recommend it to me and still after I watch a few episodes of Game Sack a random Avgn will play.
I even account hop by making new Google accounts to get premium free for a month and it even does it on fresh accounts when I watch certain YouTubers.

I dont care enough to dig through it but james was sowly working his way to ps1 games I remember the planet of the aps, pepsi man, and some ps1 educational game pack. the smooshing a bunch of games like shrek themed games is kinda lazy sure you just need to find one sucky thing about each game and splice it together.

Part of what made james so fun was his passion but fuck pushing 40 with a family and shit yeah I can see why he checked out the issue is they just need to get better writters

James should do something other than rex viper.

he has an idea for a horror movie great hire a writter and script editor. shop it around fuck sell it to next flix.

That's the thing, having other people write AVGN episodes wouldn't be such as bad thing, but none of the scripts are giving James almost nothing to work with, that is unless if the video game is something he actually played prior or is based on something he actually likes; the Darkman episode is by far the best this year for that very reason, it's a video game that's based on a movie James actually watched and enjoyed, and he even did a decent re-enactment of the film's pink elephant at the end of it.

Adding on that, the Fear and Loathing in Vegas States episode was on James appeared to enjoy doing because he gets to enjoy the film he's lampooning. Not that the episode is up there with Darkman, but with those two episodes, it's shown that he's at least given something to work with.

This is in stark contrast to the Shrek episode, which if he's even seen the movie, he's clearly not passionate about parodying it compared to the above games; instead of lampooning any scenes from the movie, half of the episode is filled to the brim with skits referencing long dead Shrek memes that James obviously knows nothing about and someone else wrote in.

TL;DR, I think there can still be good AVGN episodes, but James just needs scripts that gives him something to work with.

So, according to Justin on the Cinemassacretruth reddit, James will be starting his own podcast in the near future... Can't wait for his input on various topics. Mhmm... Yep... Uh-huh!
I thought he posted about that before but maybe it was a talk show or something. Missed the opportunity to start one back when lockdowns were happening and many had free time and every semi famous person and their momma was starting a podcast.

Now is this like a podcast thats edited and reseached or a stream where its just a bunch of idots ranting and farming super chats for 2+ hours
Don't know, Justin has just briefly mentioned it when asked about him taking over the now for real official reddit page. It is planned to debut in August and is to be laid back and 100% based on James. Will probably come and go before it turns 1 month even.

Honestly, most of the real fans are probably gone at this point aside from morbid curiosity retards like us and some people who really have nothing better to do with their lives, also like us.

It's generally just cardboard cutout comments on Youtube of how James is better than he's ever been (lol), people liking the videos before watching it (if they even bother doing so) and consooooomertards churning out the same engagement they do with other mediocre entertainers, the real community at this point doesn't give a shit, just like James doesn't.

Yeah, he couldn't even keep it up on the rental reviews, wich was designed from his passion in life. The only time people will be reminded he is even there will be whenever he talks about how amazing his kids are.

Fans of retro? The retro game craze has passed.
Right now is the worst time in history thus far to get into retro gaming due to prices skyrocketing since the start of the Coronavirus lockdowns, how new controllers all have stick drifting problems, and how new consoles and video cards are facing crippling shortages. If you didn't already have a beefy collection, I hope you have a nice controller and a good way to play roms.

You're on point with everything else, though. AVGN used to be a show where I'd slam on my brakes in the middle of traffic to watch it immediately the second a new episode dropped, and now I've been going months before getting around to watching a new one. I can't even remember if I watched the Legend of Kage episode.

The AVGN is to YouTube as The Simpsons is to TV. I don't think any of us could agree on a precise episode AVGN went from being good to basically Zombie Simpsons, but I'm sure we'd all agree that there was a pretty big drop in quality after the AVGN movie came out.

And even at that, there were a few good episodes here and there for years afterwards, so it's hard to put my finger on when exactly the show went bad. Just skimming the Wikipedia article, 2019 was the first year where I really just have zero desire to ever rewatch any of those episodes again.

Hell, I didn't even mind the fat boys. They seemed like people I know. Justin Silverman even brought us this treat:

But they just don't know how to make an AVGN video.

Guy doesn't even do Monster Madness himself anymore? Jesus Christ. He's become a completely soulless husk, hasn't he?

Say what you will about Doug Walker, but he still looks like he enjoys himself doing videos. Haven't touched NC since before Demo Reel, but I recently checked out his Dark Toons series and gotta say it makes for good background noise. Doug sound lively and invested talking about color theory and shot composition (never knew he was an illustrator) and it just reminded me of James and how passionate he sounded doing Monster Madness. To hear he's got no time for that either might've just soured me on him completely, tbh.

Once a YouTube channel starts podcasting, you know they have gotten lazy.

For me, the tipping point was the Sega Activator episode. I think every episode after that was mediocre or bad, and you can clearly see that James stopped giving any input into the episodes after this point.

And after the covid, we entered what I call the dark ages of the AVGN, where James only records him sitting on the sofa using always the same camera angle and lighting.

Few of the episodes after the Sega Activator are still fine for me, though given the small amount of the good ones you are pretty close. Power Rangers, Game Boy Accessories and Earthbound are few that come to my mind when it comes to the last good episodes.

Sadly YouTube channels won't quite escape the idea of having podcasts. I just hope they won't avoid the questions regarding the controversies around them (e.g. Bootsy, Kyle, AVGN movie, etc.) but I doubt it.
