He doesn't even need to change anything to fix it. Any game which came out prior to 2008 would be canonically consistent for him to review today, as it would represent the same difference in era relative to the games he first reviewed in 2004. That covers the entire PS1, N64 library and almost all the mainstream PS2/GC games library (excluding a subset of very late releases).

Since the modern video games industry has become so shitty that they're mostly just remaking the same games over and over again, AVGN could dunk even harder by time traveling (an already established comedic device) to point out the same shit which never changes. In some cases, fan "demakes" turn out better than the real thing and those are deliberately made for obsolete consoles, allowing for even more creative freedom.

At this point, if he wants more money, he has no excuse not to!

Why do you assume any of this would be good content?

People have already dunked on these games and made these points. Why would James (a guy who has no interest in games made past 1996) doing it suddenly be good content?

Seriously, some of you just can't come to grips with the reality of the situation it feels like. Do some of you really think the problem with AVGN is that he has just run out of games to talk about and not the fact that his writers/handlers and he just don't give a fuck?

He has produced reviews involving both PS1 and PS2 games before, and it was good, so the potential is there. At worst, it will be like watching modern WWE, which is still mildly entertaining, even though it’s missing some of the elements which originally made it great.

This is exactly why AVGN will never get better.

If James and Screenwave continue to get views, they have no incentive to truly improve.

Of course, I also think it wouldn't get better even if you all stopped watching because the mine has been depleted. They'd probably just stop producing AVGN and live off the old videos.

Still doesn't change the fact that just continuing to eat the slop will not make them suddenly decide to improve the slop.

I was just about to post this. Kind of a nothing video but whoever is editing these is slacking because the keying of the green screen is fucked up and you can see the reflection of it on James' neck.

I think the reason why the keying is so bad is that James is too close to the green screen. And I think what's going on is that (I've said this before so you have my apologies) that he gave up the video store room and is filming anything movie related in front of a green screen with a little desk of tapes in his tiny garage.

I'm guessing it's rather just the TV he has in the back that's showing green, so he can key in relevant movie screencaps later. Notice how the greeness only shows up on the side of his face that's next to the TV.

I learned of this guy from his crossover with EJ and Frankie of Red Cow Arcade.

This Dancing With Ghosts guy is apparently a musician and a music YTer.

He showed up on the Red Cow Arcade podcast because he did a musician's critique of Rex Viper earlier in the year.

I watched this O&A AVGN appearance earlier this week.

Is this guy trying to manipulate the algorithm by doing AVGN criticism?

The O&A vid seemed out of place. The radio spot was from 2008 and the Dancing with Ghosts guy didn't have much commentary to add besides pointing out that even 2008 Bimmy was monosyllabic in unscripted situations.
