Even got to 6v6 at some point. Was fun. Would be even more fun with double the players. GGs to everyone except the niggers picking sniper on race maps.
I enjoyed nulltower

speaking of nulltower, @miyuki minor beef but if you cba make the difference between each side more clear, the faces are so good and pretty that it becomes incredibly easy to be lost, the beard is not enough....
I posted the VMT earlier in the thread DIY you selfish little fuck.

Anyone wants to hop in the server in around an hour?

Yeah, there's limits to what I can stomach. I don't know what's wrong with the USW server, but even 25 years ago I wouldn't join something above 220 ping.
edit: while I'm at it, what's with people randomly dropping with a (Client disconnect)? I think I'm literally the only person who didn't get 'acked yesterday.

I'll be on in an hour.

So we decided on CEST 6pm for the European server, but what about the US West server? 5-6 PM EST or 5-6 PM PTZ?

@babaisyou, maybe after the main poll ends on oct 8, the next two polls could decide what time everyone should be on the weekends on the eu and us servers.
This could also double as an ad for what time to be on.

Oh man, I'm feeling the urge to rant about how soldier mains ruined the game. It's really bringing me back.

I remember when the stickybomb launcher nerf caused so many demo mains to leave the game because they couldn't spam and would put descriptions in their profiles such as " tf2 2007-2015" They reverted it in about a week.

That's after I quit the game probably in 13/14, so I don't know the context, but Demoman is Soldier but better balance. Grenades feel as strong as rockets, but require more skill and can't be used in melee nearly as effectively or indiscriminately. Honestly the game would of been better with no Demoman changes and Soldier completely reworked to a non-explosive class.

except that's kind of not true, and it can be basically boiled down to demo having two primaries that allow a lot of wacky shit that soldier can't do

pears and apples, there's a million different situations that can change who's stronger, pipes shine at any range that can afford a direct hit while rockets shine at any surface that allows splashing, and this ignores the current unlocks, it's too much of a generalization.
Honestly the game would of been better with no Demoman changes and Soldier completely reworked to a non-explosive class.
dumb, would buff several classes (scout, pyro, demo, heavy, engi) and would've brought him on a situation similiar to pyro if he was completely hitscan.

Demoman is so weak that 6v6 only allows one per team. :gunt:
In the early stages of comp a 7v7 (no, not prolander) format was tried with an additional demo allowed per team. Nobody fucking liked it because it was impossible to push.

My point wasn't that Demoman wasn't good, it's that soldier was too easy. A really good Demo was much more rare, and just about a effective as a mid Soldier. Soldier can get on field and just spam rockets at choke points and get points on the board. I also feel like Pyro air blast was much more effective against grenades than rockets(though that might have more to do with my shitty ping) when being lobbed from out of sight.

Point don't win the game

I find grenades harder to reflect, they move faster and their fuse does not reset on airblast so they also end up being less useful even if you time it right

Soldier is literally the tutorial starter class. Jack of all trades, master of none. All-rounder. Flexible. Easy to pick up, hard as fuck to master. He doesn't excel in any area, and every thing he covers he can be done better by a different class.
Area denial? Engineer, Heavy, Demo and sometimes even Sniper do it better.
AoE spam? Demo is the indisputable king. Gold star to Scorch Shot Pyro, even though it's an absolute nigger of a playstyle.
Picks? Sniper and Spy do it better.
Flanking? Scout does it better.
Long range harassment? Try to guess who does it better.
1v1? Scout is (most often*) the king.
Mobility? Scout and Demo do it better.
Spychecking? Pyro does it better.
Wrecking Engie nests? Demo and Spy do it better.
Arguably the only condition where he's irreplaceable is the 6v6 Medic buddy, and again, it's because of his flexibility as the only class able to provide explosive projectiles and hitscan fire.
You haven't played vs a really good Demo. A really good Demo will just tap you once or twice with stickies and you're gone, assuming you don't eat a couple of pipes first.
*really depends on the terrain. The more extreme elevation (like Granary mid), the worse it is for the Scout.

My point wasn't that Demoman wasn't good, it's that soldier was too easy.
which is the entire point of soldier, but the important part is being effective and being effective as a soldier is not that easy.
A really good Demo was much more rare, and just about a effective as a mid Soldier
which is hard bullshit, from my engi experiences a mediocre soldier is capable of harrassing my sentry and maybe get a few potshots off me, a good demo suppresses my entire existence any time he wants to make a play against me.
Soldier can get on field and just spam rockets at choke points and get points on the board
as written by gasoline, points don't win games, and while rocket spamming is a good way to suppress enemies, it's still not enough to win games as him, especially if you're fighting against a good airblast pyro.
I also feel like Pyro air blast was much more effective against grenades than rockets(though that might have more to do with my shitty ping) when being lobbed from out of sight.
pyro airblast is objectively stronger against rockets due to how airblast manages the proprieties of the rockets, but barring this it's still a case of potatoes and oranges, reflected pipes are scary if you can hit, reflected rockets are scary if you can splash.

Voting has closed for the polls, I'll probably make another set of polls about trying to boost the player count at specific times or days.

"Make it chill" won by a singular vote so it remains as is.
Majority voted for "yes", added.

See this and this for how to spawn weapons in (i wish gimme would let you just provide the weapon's name)
Majority voted for "no", removed.

Also since I doubt there will be any major shifts in the main thread poll, bullet spread and random fall damage have been re-enabled. Finally, I reduced the map timer to 31 minutes, while 41 would be ideal because funny, some maps can get really boring after half-an-hour, you can still extend the map and make the total map time 41 minutes.

edit: while I'm at it, what's with people randomly dropping with a (Client disconnect)? I think I'm literally the only person who didn't get 'acked yesterday.
Yeah I've noticed that SDR has been fucky with clients sometimes, people micspamming would cause server logs to be spammed, trying to figure out what's going on here.

Can we get some more stupid "fuck around" maps and have the server default to one of them when it's empty? Off the top of my head I can name Orange (best "default" candidate), Toyfort (both CP and PL), Geclburg, Happycow, Whalerace and Orangebomb. Warpath would also nice to be see, along with "mirrored" maps like Redawdab or Lwobtsud because they fuck with your mind.
edit: oh yeah. Forgot about Nippletwister. :story:
