Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

Why did they do OoT Link so dirty bros?

I noticed a cool parallel between ALTTP and TP. Both games feature a "Dark Pyramid" as set piece. In ALTTP it's a physical edifice in the other world, a dark mirror of Hyrule Castle. Whereas in TP the "Dark Pyramid" is an evil magic seal cast upon Hyrule Castle itself.
TP is full of neat stuff like this. There's also sht lke you fight some wizard guy in a robe before you fight ganon for real. However Zant's a bt dfferent than agnahim because the way the script frames agnahm s he's just literally Ganon under a false "alter ego" alias.
One of the cooler bits to me from that game is the direct heavy implication the Twili are the descendants of the "dark tribe" mentioned in Majora's mask responsible for the thing's creation. The fused shadow has what's blatantly the same type of craftsmanship and patterns as Majora's mask.

I've always wanted one last game to wrap up his story, filling in the gaps of how he lost an eye and wound up becoming a lingering spirit tethered to the world with regrets.
TP Link being a bological descendant of OOT link is one of the few times they actually give a reason for Link looking the same despite being a different character with the same name and appearance every few games. The "explanation" video essayists came up for the skeleton knight ghost form OOT link has n TP was and always will be retarded due to EVERYTHING in TP that calls back to OOT and Majora's mask. "oh he just looks like that because Majora's mask was secretly a dream and he was dead/in a coma and woke up as a stalfos!" Did these people even play the fucking game?

I thought the explanation was he never got to teach his children sword techniques?
Yeah but the "missing an eye" thing implies some more adventure stuff that could probably be made into another game.

All this timeline discussion is and always has been super gay.
No, bro, the timelines have always been an integral part of the story, bro. The timelines merged at the end in Breath of the Wild, because that's how timelines work, bro.

Man, Tears of the Kingdom fucking up the story so badly that it gets the two placed in their own timeline is fucking funny.

I am blown away that the Switch Zelda games killed the Zelda cycle, because everything I’ve heard about TotK was that it should ever have been more than an expansion pack.

They made it so much more generic for no reason. Ganondorf is almost always referred to as The Demon King instead. All of the recognizable symbols from the earlier games are replaced by knockoff Chinese characters. Most everything from Breath of the Wild even is just gone.

I want to quote myself from last year, because I still believe I put it well:
Something shitty writers love to do is insert their nonsense into the beginning and the end of an ongoing story. It's their way of saying Now no matter what happens afterwards, whatever I wrote happens, regardless of how poorly written, and no one can ever change or ignore it now. Frankly, the behaviour disgusts me, because I only see it happening with shitty writers.
I think the Yiga Clan will be the lasting legacy of these games, storywise. It's impressive how badly TOTK retroactively fucked BOTW's story. The Sheikah were used to such good effect, only for everything they built to be removed without a trace for no reason and with no explanation. The Zonai were dropped in without explanation purely to replace them, with almost identical aesthetics, because the writer obviously hated them or something, and then the writer made them the reason for everything, for good measure.

Three goddesses? Heh, say hello to the goddess Hylia.
The goddess Hylia? Heh, say hello to the Zonai.
The Zonai? Heh, say hello to ...

I hold with the broken timeline theory where so much time travel has completely broken causality and sequence. So for a period of time will have one history, only to immediately be followed by a period of time with a completely different history, with some alternating possibly happening.

Eh, under Anouma, we got MM, TWW and TP. Those were all great or at least good. SS, for all its many flaws, was a solid entry, too. Things only started going downhill with BotW. I'm genuinely curious what will happen next.
Anouma's made some silly comments re: linear games, but he's still one of Nintendo's best guys. BOTW and TOTK are both great open-world games that some people will prefer over traditional Zelda and some won't, it's just a matter of opinion. Personally I would like something that meets in the middle for the next game.

Anouma has had a problem with trying to make Zelda "different" for 20 fucking years now, and more times than not it has lead to his games being worse than they need to be.

His recent statements where he seems to absolutely not fucking get what people want when they talk about "classic Zelda" leads me to think this will only get worse and worse now that the open world pandoras box has been opened.

ALBW was pretty awesome tho

I genuinely enjoyed Skyward Sword, far more than either of the recent games. The motion controls were fun, and they did a good job of letting dungeons and the overworld seep into each other.

I didn't care for A Link Between Worlds. The flat movement mechanic was neat, but I didn't like what they did with the items. I want to explore dangerous areas and also get cool items in them. This shouldn't be hard.
At this point my biggest hope for the series is they do a "New" spinoff similar to Mario Bros. and it's just a series of paint by numbers entries that resembles Link Between Worlds graphically and in terms of Gameplay.
Yeah, just give us what we want. I want a fun, curated experience that I'll play from beginning to end and occasionally replay, not to make my fun myself. I can always play Minecraft if I feel like doing that.

Tell me about it. I played the Switch port and had a pretty good time, all things considered. I hear that some of the more egregious bullshit the Wii version had in it has been ironed out, but either way, I'd say the game is a solid 7/10. I'd replay it over BotW any day.
