Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

"Man Majora's Mask was really good, why'd they deny Zelda this brand new direction!?"

"Man I remember really liking Wind Waker, but now Twilight Princess is just lifeless..."

"What the fuck, why did they make Skyward Sword!? Twilight Princess is the GOAT alongside OoT!"

I think the only exception to this was Skyward Sword going into BOTW, I still seldom see anyone like that game unless I've missed some resurgence in the last three years.

You can spot the frauds because they're the ones that claim Twilight Princess was good. Twilight Princess was fucking awesome from the first trailer right up until I got it on my GameCube and played it and wanted to kill myself. Goddamn they fucked that game up. So many good little bits mired in shit. What was a "good little bit" from Twilight Princess?

This out of nowhere:

Twilight Princess is the best Standard Legend of Zelda (Hyrule Fantasy, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword being all basically renditions of the same basic blue print), Although the first four hours are a slog, after the third Spirit tear quest and the opening of Hyrule, it becomes a great place to explore and its mini games are top shelf, I love fishing, I find Links role in the story as well as the dual princesses a neat dynamic with Link and Minda at first being interested only in their small inconveniences caused by Zant's conquest ( Minda as a foreigner gives no shits about Hyrule, and Link as a Village Commoner probably never would have batted an eye at a changing of hats had Zant not sacked his village and kidnapped his friends and lover) I admittedly find the Sand and Lake Temple weak (although that was just as true for Ocarina of Time's Shadow and Fire temple being mid, as were Link to the Pasts first two pendant dungeons [Ruins and Desert] and I dropped Skyward Sword before even beating the first dungeon) Hyrule Castle Town has never looked Better (Though it has the worst Kakariko Village) Twilight Princess is on par with Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past as the real Patricians of Zelda (Breath would join it if they either added more interactions with homes and people, or actual dungeons that did not suck).

I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the gameplay of Tears. If the game had come out a couple years ago maybe I'd be more forgiving but it just didn't seem substantially different enough for me to want to sink 70 dollars on it.

I like the idea of the fusion feature even if it's clearly just webm fodder, but I can't help but feel like all extrinsic reasons to use it will completely fall off when it comes to navigation because paragliding is still the best form of travel. Why build a boat when I can just hit a fan and float over it? And why even have the noclip power? Like it defeats the whole purpose of creating cool vehicles or climbing if I can just press a button and climb a mountain.

And fusing items to weapons doesn't seem to meaningfully change the weapon weight or moveset.

Shit just looks lame I dunno man.
BOTW faggots have to do mental gymnastics to justify a fucking expansion pass that released 5 years later
El oh el
Go easy on the Nintendo fans they only get pixel indieshit and 360 ports. None of them have had a chance to play Elden Ring.

I did really like the mini games in Twilight Princess, as well a some of the dungeon designs.

You can swap Twilight Princess out with A Link Between Worlds at the end of your list though.

Twilight Princess has great dungeons and probably the best companion character, and the final set of bossfights against Ganon was dope.
Oh! Yeah I'll give you that one. I really did like Hyrule Castle leading up to the end. One of the things from Ocarina of Time that I liked was how the music got more and more foreboding as you climbed higher up Ganon's Tower. Twilight Princess did this very well, too. Though... A Link Between Worlds did it the best. I think the soundtrack is a secondary or tertiary reason why I loved that game so much. The dungeon design and open scenario design were cool but the way they played with the series' music in A Link Between Worlds was very good.

Who would have thought one of the best themes in the series is ostensibly the Hyrule Castle theme played in reverse. I always recommend people plug a pair of headphones into their 3DS when they play this game. You're really missing out if you do not.

Never had a 3ds, I have never played; Links Awakening, Oracles, Minish Cap, Spirit tracts, or Link Between worlds

I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again; despite the hate I've seen it get more recently, I think Twilight Princess has the strongest art direction in the series. Perhaps I'm just a sucker for the mid 2000s Ico adjacent styles, but there is just something about it that helps it create such a strong and unique atmosphere, only increased by the Twilight Realm. I know people hate on it, but the strong bloom with the heavy use of orange colours just comes together to make such a strong look.

I also think the heavily stylized but still 'realistic' characters/enemies is a really unique and interesting look that I've never seen in anything else, despite people saying it looks 'creepy'.

Minish Cap is the best of those, definitely get around to that one. The GB/C comes are good but you can feel the technological restraints. Spirit Tracks is underrated as hell. People love LBW but it didn't click with me.

And for what it is worth, even though I dislike Twilight Princess, my dislike of t is more a matter of inches than a matter of miles. It's a fine game. But other Zelda games were much more in tune with what I liked. While we like to argue over the different games, it is pretty impressive how varied the Zelda series is considering the common complaint from AAA-nobrains is that Nintendo only ever makes the same game over and over again.

@Neo-Holstien Since you liked A Link to the Past so much, you should consider emulating or acquiring a 3DS so you can play A Link Between Worlds. It, like Tears of the Kingdom is a compelling look at a direct sequel to a Zelda game that uses the same world map and design. And like @SSj_Ness says, Minish Cap is really really good. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are also pretty fun but they're somewhat low-tier. And then Link's Awakening and the Oracle games are excellent.

Did any of you play Tri Force Heroes?

This game is extremely underrated. Maybe it isn't perfect, but back when you could find people to play it, it was a crapload of fun.

ALBW was fantastic! A bit too easy I wanna say, but not really a huge difference.

Never played TP but oh man I really like the fucking artstyle. I'm a sucker for ornate stonework and this is some really good shit. The coloured quartz lights all over the shop are a nice bonus.

Here is some analysis that I thought was interesting. Watch them in the order I've posted them for the best effect:

I think this comment in the third video makes a very good point:
Something that I’ve seen no one point out is that we never see how we switch the arm abilities in this showcase, it’s always done in between cuts. That implies that Nintendo is hiding something? Maybe it could even be a small amount of unrevealed abilities? Or something else that the UI would spoil.
There is definitely more than meets the eye here. By all means still speculate and shitpost, as tradition dictates; but I think we're going to be in for a nice surprise in a few weeks. We just don't have enough information, which I guess may come as a surprise to a lot of people. Not necessarily everyone here seeing as a lot of you seem to be a bit older than your average bear. But I am pretty happy that Nintendo are back to their secretive ways. I love going into games cold.

Link Between Worlds is so underrated. I initially hated the game when it was first revealed, thinking it was going to be a lazy, ugly, Link to the Past reboot. Boy was I wrong. The wall merge mechanic is genius. It's so snappy and fun to use, it fundamentally changes the way you view the game world. It's probably the best gimmick out of any of the Zelda games. Stuff like the wind waker or shrinking in the Minish Cap are cool, but ultimately I felt those ideas were kind of half-baked. Not so with Link Between Worlds. The wall merge mechanic is expertly executed. It never feels awkward or like it's breaking the flow of gameplay.

You mentioned the music, and something that I don't see talked about enough is how each dungeon has a unique song that plays off of the same leitmotif. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. The way the composer was able to use the same basic theme but tweak it into completely unique songs that fit each dungeon was really cool. The Ice dungeon's is my personal favorite.

I think my only complaint about the game is that is has no difficulty curve, since you can do the dungeons in any order. There's a hard mode, I guess. But you have to beat the game to unlock it, and it's the lazy "enemies do double damage" kind of difficulty. I would have much rather had the dungeons get more complex and the enemies more complex and interesting over the course of the game. It also does reuse the same map from LttP. It transforms it in some really cool ways, but an entirely new world would have been better.

I think my favorite Zelda games will always be Windwaker HD and ALBW. the gameplay made sense and the story was well done. I don't know what to think about the new ToTK but tbh I'll enjoy it even if they just took the BoTW world and put in new dungeons and collectibles

I think I've liked everything first-party Zelda. I'd say Skyward Sword was my least-liked, and even that I played through and mostly enjoyed. I was one of the ones who thought Wind Waker was going to be a shitshow after they showed the prototype footage of Link and Ganon having a badass fight before scrapping it and going to the cel shaded style, but it taught me different right quick enough. Twilight Princess won me over largely thanks to Midna; she added a ton of personality to the game that a bland fucker like Link rarely offers.

Breath of the Wild was one of my favorites. I have two complaints: The divine beast dungeons were not as good as most of the previous game dungeons, and the mini shrine things didn't make up for it. And the weapons broke twice as easy as they should've. Those two items aside, I liked everything about it. I don't get complaints about it having no story, it had more than most of the series, as long as you visited the sites that triggered the flashbacks. I liked Zelda being a useless screwup of a magic princess and Link being viewed as a pointless relic until Ganon stuck his dick in everyone's plans and they had to step up at the last second, that was an interesting twist on things.

Tears of the Kingdom looks like it's leaning into the whole creatively making weird shit work for you in an open world that I enjoyed in BotW, so I'm cautiously hopeful for it. I definitely don't think it's going to be a short DLC-length thing after they've been working for this many years on it.
