Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

  • 🐕 Maintenace complete. Database is on a new RAID. Everything should load faster. Will optimize more over time.
He's gonna get someone killed by saying TVs for that USB-C conversion. Anything outside of a 12 port network switch has real power, with a thick 3-prong cord. But TVs, especially older CRTs, those will fucking kill you if you're not careful. It's fine to experiment, but electricity is fucking dangerous, especially anything that plugs into your wall.

Then again the video concept is not really that useful to begin with, he mentions powering each system with 1 usb cable to share. Who the fuck is taking their vintage SNES inawoods and up a hiking trail? Where the uses of having less to carry would be good.
On top of that, SNES emulation is viable on smart phones plus SBC device. If you really want to be that jackass and carry up a tech device, then do it smartly.

-the first 10 minutes is bitching about tax cuts and trickle down economics, which I'd take with more credibility than a fucking leaf, but it seems like Linus' dad might be more conservative than he is
-at 27:00 they talk about one of Anker's subsidy taking pictures and sending photos to Chyna via the cloud and putting them on public servers, and Linus says they won't do any more business with Anker, we'll see when that Chyna money is needed to finish his pool
-47:00 is more twitter bitching because Musk is doing amnesty and doing something ridiculous like letting a poll decide the actions. They have to offer some grudging respect for dealing with the CP issue on the site and the Balenciaga stuff
-1:02:00 is talk about making LTT wallets and passport holders which I would think should be well at the bottom of a list until you can actually make backpacks that don't have the cord dongles pop off or stop getting scammed by Chinesium suppliers
-1:27:00 the one thing Linus is right on in talking shit about modern marvel movies and how star wars is also shit, some chat tried to say Johnson had the best of the new trilogy but gets slapped down because of the subversion bullshit
-1:48:00 Linus tries to say he takes constructive criticism and Luke makes a joke about it then gets defensive that people will take that seriously, but we've seen he has issues listening to people, there's talk of how he's a good guy because he doesn't fire people who just disagree with him (another Musk attack), and he always goes "am I just dumb?" in asking questions which is very defensive and not something you should say as a boss to people saying why X is a good or bad thing
-2:01:50, a weird moment of truth where Luke and Linus seem to admit Floatplane is dying but there's updates coming soon, it can't really exist as a service. They skim over it real fast which makes me wonder what else is going on there, and with the gay labs being made will Floatplane be put on maintenance mode while that takes precedence

I wish someone in chat had asked him if he would fire someone who disagrees with his opinions on how safe and effective the covid vaccines are.
We already know the answer, he'd fire them, but it'd be funny to hear him dance around that.

Musk also didn't fire that engineer for disagreeing with him, he fired him for publicly attacking him without knowing what he was talking about. The timeline is: Musk says the backend performance of the app sucks because it fans out to an enormous numbers of microservices which causes latency problems when accessing the site from far-away countries like India, the "engineer" calls Musk a liar with no details, Musk replies to the tweet asking for more details, the "engineer" goes on a rant about how he has worked on the Android app for six years and it doesn't have any performance problems, Musk fires him for being a dumbass and attacking him over something he knew nothing about.

I find interesting where luke talks about how Mastodon admins can read users DM's. Every platform where the DM isnt E2EE you can do it and it's something that can happen even on their forum. Maybe I'll try someday to create a few accounts on their forum and send a lot of DM's between them with NSFW(Nothing that would fall on CSAM but it would be "illegal") content there.

admit Floatplane is dying
Video streaming/hosting content is hard. I know a few people who hosts/hosted big peertube instances on fediverse, like the poast one (while I don't like graf a lot, at least he is very open about his poast related sysadmin stuff so you can learn a lot with him on that), you discover that on video streaming/hosting like floatplane, there's not a good enough quantity of bandwidth and storage.

This now are just assumptions but while bandwidth you can "fix" with CDN's, storage is something that it will always gets bigger no matter what, videos are transcoded into different formats for you to not need real-time transcoding, which increases the storage by a lot and with LTT and other tech channels pushing for longer videos at 4k@60 and more BS, one daily video can easily go up to 1tb in storage in the end and I bet that the subscribe count doesn't go up by the same ammount.

In the end Linus will learn why youtube is the king and that streaming/hosting is hard

Another sperging about this that I forgot.

I said in a few posts earlier that twitter won't die because of network effect, ad companies, bubbles and more, where that any alternative wouldn't be good enough for them. While mastodon has a lot of problems, they can be fixed but by seeing Luke and Linus shitting on twitter/mastodon/facebook and more, while posting a lot on twitter/facebook, this just proves my point even more

Ah yes, the Pro 2. Am I mad that I've bit the bait wanting to cheap out and am I glad I managed to get a refund for that broken ass piece of shit after a month from purchasing. Piece of shit wouldn't want to connect to my PC OVER USB and it wouldn't want to pair with my Bluetooth dongle. Thankfully now I'm a happy Xbox Series controller owner and it's vastly superior from that 8BitDo piece of shit.

Sorry, I just really fucking hate that controller because of my experiences. Don't cheap out, get an Xbox controller.
I don't know why this happened to you. I like 8BitDo, because I can count on the fingers of my left hand how many manufacturers produce modernized small form-factor controllers, and 8BitDo is one of them. The SN30 pro is what I was looking for, and it works fine for me.

But it isn't. It's only use to Google is to serve propaganda and farm user data for other services.
It wasn't profitable for a long time bit I'm pretty sure it is now. Latest info a quick search yields is from 2020 where Google broke out YT revenue for the first time showing their 2019 ad revenue was $15 billion and $3 billion from other sources like subscriptions. https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/03/tech/google-youtube-earnings/index.html

I can't see it costing $15 billion to run even with how expansive and reliable it is.

Last time I was curious about YouTube being profitable or not the best information was that it ran more or less break even. If the division of a conglomerate runs at break even, it's because that's the intended outcome and achieved by shifting around revenues between legal entities via intercompany charges.

Like how U.S. auto companies shift around profits, e.g. ACME Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of ACME Global, makes the TurboWidget and assigns global distribution rights to ACME Distribution (Tax Shelter) Inc., ACME distribution then buys the TurboWidget from ACME Manufacturing at cost + 10% and resells it to all the ACME country legal entities for cost + 50%, then the legal entities sell the TurboWidget for cost + 55%. Thus, the majority of the profits for the TurboWidget are centralized in the low tax jurisdiction. ACME Distribution then licenses branding and technology from ACME Global shifting profits at a controlled rate back to US.

With the amount of profit allowed by each legal entity tightly controlled to minimize tax without pissing off the taxman. The in-country subsidiary of one company I worked for, as an example, had a target yearly profit of 3-5% even though the product we were selling had a GM closer to 50% based on cost. However, the product was purchased from the manufacturing location with a GM to the legal entity of 5%, then the legal entity had to pay 10% to the division for administration charges, then 8% or something to the corporate entity for brand licensing, etc., etc. All the charges being artificial and designed so that against a budgeted revenue you ended up with the magic 3-5% profit.

Of course Youtube is profitable.
Granted its hard to know since its hidden by the rainbow curtain but there is more evidence that is not profitable then it is:

Maybe different now? Everyone is whining about the shitty ad rates on YouTube so I doubt it. Netflix is a better gauge of streaming profitability and its pretty shit quite frankly.

This whole thing was really incredible to behold. Especially because I saw a lot of people in various fighting games comment on this saying this couldn't happen.
Except, you know, Guilty Gear Strive released with this exact problem. It was making a huge amount of API calls that were all being routed to Japan, and it made the games networking infamously buggy and slow.
People with tranny Bridget avatars were saying this couldn't happen and then booting up a game where this was actively happening which is as funny as it is stroke inducing.

True horror. Fat pedostache does a soyface for an overpriced manchild device.
I mean, absolute racing sim fanatics will buy a wheel like that no matter if LTT advertises it or not. However you enter the issue of it being aimed for a target group that a) would know about it either way and b) wouldn't need LTT to advertise it because they know what they are looking for. The thing is that this target audience is really fanatical about racing sims, they are really into it. So if you don't have a passion for these kind of games you won't be even bothered to buy the regular belt based wheel in the first place.

Basically they are advertising a product that barely anyone from their viewerbase will be truly interested in. If anything a bunch of retards with too much money to spend will buy it to never use it.

But if they dont make a video on it bmw boy here wont get to sneak it out the side door in 3 months once everyone else has forgotten about it like he did with the last racing wheel they showed off.

I would accept Jay2cents making the video since he has VR racing rigs at home. LTT though? Nah
