Veritasium did a good explanation of titles and thumbnails for videos and the YT algorithm. From memory his explanation was click bait doesn’t work, because the title and thumbnail needs to accurately describe the content of the video, but to generate click through needs be exciting, intriguing, or otherwise get your attention because dry descriptions also don’t work.

Linus Has referenced those videos before, but doesn’t seem to have understood the point or at least his writing staff aren’t good enough at it.

I wonder if/when there's also going to be AMD $5000 "upgrades" done to set ups that are usually already pretty killer.
Only if AMD pays for it. The $5000 upgrades are Intel sponsorships.

Linus seems to have some weird issue with understanding what the hell people are telling him. It's like internally he's ignoring them, coming up with his own conclusion and just thinks they said what he was thinking. He struggled a lot when Luke was giving his thoughts on the "Trust Me, Bro" etc.

Speaking of... what does one do with 15000 backpacks clogging up a warehouse?

(Sorry don't have any retard arrows for these graphs, Linus)
Or 50,000 screwdrivers?

Mechatronics sounds fancy doesn't it? Like he should know both Electrical engineering and Mechanical engineering! Its a 2 for 1 deal. New guy seems smarter than Alex,
i'm going to have to PL here. i actually know the guy IRL. he doesn't actually have experience in the field of mechatronics, he just has experince as the lead singer in a heavy metal coverband of technotronic. no engineering or sciene knowledge whatsoever, he only knows how to move his body

thats about $2 million in dead stock, what would you do with $2 million. i can think of a fuck load more fun things to do with $2 million than buy shit that will sit in a warehouse forever. i know it can theoretically be a tax right off, but still.

If Linus has seen that Veritasium video, he 100% missed the point. Here are the examples Veritasium gives of his clickbait videos that performed well:

1664517398241.png1664517418333.png1664517445318.png1664517466887.png1664517487222.png
Compare those to some of Linus' recent videos:
1664517169823.png1664517174721.png1664517189149.png1664517178091.png1664517185509.png
Every single one of the highlighted Veritasium videos has an interesting thumbnail and sentence that truthfully describe what happens in the video. Linus' thumbnails and titles leave me guessing WTF the video is about. What's the name of that folding screen laptop and why does he want to break it? What's the plan that Yvonne vetoed? What was Linus waiting for? Why doesn't Linus need internet? Who knows the answer to any of those questions, and none of them are interesting enough for me to click on the video to find out. Linus seems to think that good titles are just unanswered questions, but they have to ask a question that is actually interesting.

I don't think it is a coincidence (besides Veritasium cherry-picking videos that did well) that his videos have much higher view counts than Linus', despite him having fewer subscribers (12.9 million vs 14.8 million). Most of Linus' videos get around 2 million views, which is less than 1/7 of his subscribers, and his ten most recent videos have 0.871, 1.1, 1.6, 1.9, 1.3, 1.6, 0.806, 1.7, 1, and 1.3 million views. Veritasium's most recent videos have 6.9, 6.4, 12, 7.4, 5.7, 4.4, 6.8, 22, 12, and 8.5 million views. Two out of the last ten Veritasium videos had more people his subscriber count watch them, and all but two had more than views than 50% of his subscribers.

Linus's top video of all time has 22 Million Views. Veritasium has 12 videos with more views, and he's made way fewer videos.

Linus' clickbait strategy objectively does not work.

MKBHD, Linus' closest competitor, got nearly five times the view count on his review of the new iPhone than Linus did on his.

Which one would you click on if you heard that Apple launched a new phone and you want to find out if it's worth buying?

Neither. MKBHD doesn't say anything except press release notes in fear of losing Apple's favor and Linus has admitted he's not a phone guy which when paired with his autistic hellbent on having complete control and refusing scripts means all you'll get are useless ramblings.

From an aesthetic standpoint though, yeah MKBHD is eons better over LTT which oozes "fellow kids".

Clearance is for when your capital is tied up in the remainder and your carrying costs are high.

If you have nothing better to put on the shelf and it’s still moving let it flow.

Linus’s clickbait images are clearly of a type (the YouTube influencer personality type) which sells him above all. They’re not attractive to those outside his group at all.

I don't care what kind of topic a channel specializes in, but being/looking like an unfunny retard in the thumbnail is something that no longer compels me to watch videos. In fact it does the opposite. I'll just sum up that the quality of content either matches the presentation or is dreadfully boring in either direction.

To me it seems like a real newcomer project and them sitting at the drawing board what they'd want in a backpack, without weighing the pros and cons.

It is, I spend years looking for the right bag for me and never found one untill I found Saddleback Leather who are mostly stupid pocket free 2 large main sections and two small internal pockets on the divider and two flat pen pockets one I use for my glasses and the other for a pen knife and pens is more than enough for me, and I use the outside straps to hold a rolled up jacket or jackets.

Too many pockets suck and you lose more stuff stuff that you need in them than you end up carrying usefully.

The only sop towards organisation I have with mine is for my laptop and notebook and that's in a leather document case mostly for protection, but I just toss in my Camera, jumper an lunch, water bottle etc and anything else I need into the other two large sections that could be 1 section

They say in the video that the part that houses the mechanism and attaches to the shank is made of zinc. I'd be interested to see if their competitors like snap on use zinc because it seems rather cheap and chinesium to use a cast zinc part in what they try to sell as a premium tool.

They do use Zinc as a fragile link i.e. it will give rather than the head of the screw, it's cheap and does the job but they normally only use it on tools that are designed for working on fine headed kit, I can't work out if this was cost saving or forward planning but I am personally betting on the latter.

And I do know ratchet design as I've built my own ratcheting brace designed for drilling and screw turning.

Thats the standard tolerance in Machining. Literally his engineers didn't spec the mechanicals correctly, and forgot to make it go one way (either +.005 or -.005, not the standard which is both).

It's likely the tightest the manufactures an promise, I've seen that specified from supposedly Aerospace Component suppliers based in China and the level of tolerance is far tighter than that Linus is using a OEM to make his stuff that's using mostly older machines and work on volume rather than quality to make there products even with tweaks.

Just to give you an example I was working on a project where a demo parts run was orderd from two factories one in Sheffield UK, the other in China, both where roller formed Bolts the Chinese ones where not just on the edge of tolerance they where over 0.5mm out of spec and they where given the full spec beforehand and where supposedly making the roller plates for them to order.

1. They bought production machines to make millions of screwdrivers? That's optimistic.

2. Linus always says "I wish 'Linus' wasn't in the name of Linus Tech Tips" to be humble. Yet "Linus" is still the promo code for his sponsorships. Curious.

1) Nope he spent millions on production quality machines to protype his stuff, stuff that they would have done for him at request on design review and likely had stuff available to his spec on a al'cart menu.

2) I kinda believe that, or now I do. He seems like he is wanting to take a step back from being the frontman of the LTT "Empire" and it would be easyer for him to do if he wasnt the front man, hell he'd likely be looking to sell it now if there want a "brand" built around him being the front an centre.

I really want to steal(because if I link the source I would be called a nazi and get banned) this post an post it on LTT foruns just to see the his reaction and his fanboys.

A thing that I'm seeing a lot on LTT foruns is people complaining about the channel that it became too shallow where it looks like they're playing safe on most reviews/bechmarks and that they shill for companies that pays them a lot, like how they nitpick AMD on their reviews of CPU and GPU but don't do the same on Nvidia and Intel.

My prediction based in nothing is that in the near future LTT channel isn't going to die like a how some people want unless Linus do something really bad but in reality that their channel growth will stop and this is something that already happening from what I hear from the wan show. Linus is trying as hard as he can to get more viewers while he shit on the loyal old ones

Linus' clickbait strategy objectively does not work.
I would say it works partially, cuz as a tech channel such clickbait tactics just don't work.

for the simple reason that every piece of tech just looks the fucking same, laptops, phones, GPUs, CPUs, SSDs, monitors like if go shopping for parts and just look at pictures they all look the same, so putting them on a thumbnail just makes it difficult to tell what it is about.

and for the titles they just looks like something I would see on a vlog, but for vlogs such clickbait strategy works, cuz I am not restricted to putting the product on the thumbnail, I can have the thumbnail tease the story.

He is basically trying to copy MrBeast's thumbnails but fails to understand why it works for MrBeast but not him.

just an oddly placed vacation break?
odd but still realistic, if I was such a huge simp for Linus and an employee but still want to take my vacations I would prob plan it after the release of the LTT screwdriver, cuz god forbid I miss out on such a grand event!
