Because Lucas is dumb and out of touch as shit he doesn’t realize you can get glasses online for $20-$30 at this point. I know of at least one site that will give you the first pair for free and only make you pay shipping.
This is just the start of another grift where he will beg for money for something he “needs” and then spend the money on a burrito or some shit.

You got it backwards. Medicare is what old people qualify for here in the US when they turn 65. Medicaid is for low income or disabled folks like Fat Lucas. I looked it up and as far as Medicaid covering eyeglasses for adults, it varies by state. In Washington State, it appears that Medicaid does not cover it, but there are providers that give discounts to Medicaid recipients.
Now, in a larger city like Spokane, there may be some non profits that may be able to assist in getting glasses. Not sure if Washington State University or Gonzaga has a school of optometry. Sometimes those schools will see low income people for free and get them 1 pair of glasses.
He would do something like that. He totally would spend the money on a burrito or a pizza. And yes, there are some cheap places to get glasses now. Eyeglasses are stupid overpriced in brick and mortar establishments. But regardless, Lucas would still need an eye exam.
Now, like I said, there probably are non profits or somewhere he could turn to for free care, but he would have to take the initiative to find them. I assume he still has some sort of social worker. That is the type of thing they could help him with. But Lucas is such a helpless fat ass who can't do anything for himself, probably too lazy to even try to work with the social worker on something like this. He had glasses at one time. How did he get them back then?

Another thing people don't always take into consideration when it comes to glasses is the request for polycarbonate lenses. They are a blessing for those of us that have really shitty vision, myself included. They replace the ridiculous coke bottle lenses that you'd be forced to endure. Unfortunately, they are always an out of pocket expense no matter your insurance.

100% agree. Also agree that even if it cost a nickel, and took Lucas 5 minutes worth of effort, he won't do it. The fake "job hunt" hurdles (needed glasses, then special shoes, then needed to create a "resume", then needed to meet someone to help him with said resume etc) are the same basic song and dance he used about why he couldn't go to the bars to meet girls. What's funny is one thing I don't doubt Lucas about is his past of being drained by working lowest of the low in his prime. For lower functioning people tasks we call simple can be draining.
